Shivadeepotsava Fervor at Suttur Srikshetra: A Grand Celebration of Devotion and Music

Suttur, November 20, 2021: The sacred grounds of Suttur Srikshetra came alive on Friday evening as devotees gathered to celebrate the auspicious occasion of Shivadeepotsava. The event, held in honor of Adijagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Mahaswamiji and the revered deities Sri Someshwara, Sri Mahadeshwara, Sri Veerabhadreshwara, and Sri Narayanaswamy, witnessed an array of special puja programs. The divine presence of Paramapujya Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji elevated the sanctity of the event.

The evening commenced with Mahamangalarathi and Praakarotsava, sacred rituals that involved the offering of illuminating lights and circumambulation around the holy shrines. The melodious voices of the teachers from the renowned Suttur Music School filled the air as they presented a captivating recital of Vachanas (spiritual verses) and devotional songs, creating a captivating spiritual ambience.

A significant highlight of the Shivadeepotsava program was the initiation ceremony of Shivadeeksha-Lingadeeksha. Over 25 children were bestowed with the sacred lingam, symbolizing their deep spiritual connection with Lord Shiva. This initiation marked an important milestone in their spiritual journey.

The entire temple complex and shrine were adorned with vibrant illuminations, casting a radiant glow over the celebrations. Esteemed seers from various mathas, including Hosmatha, Kuderu, Huliyurudurga, Dandikere, Alamatti, Chunchahalli, Naviluru, Shirmallimatha, and Haraguru Charamurthy, graced the event with their presence. The gathering also included notable personalities such as Sri R. Chetan, the Superintendent of Police of Mysuru District, Sri Shankarshetty, the Convener of the AKKA conference in America, as well as industrialists and devotees from the surrounding villages.

The Shivadeepotsava program at Suttur Srikshetra not only brought together devotees from far and wide but also served as a platform for spiritual enrichment and cultural exchange. This grand celebration showcased the fervor and devotion of the community, reinforcing the bond between the divine and the devotees.

Special lighting arrangements were made to the shrine of Adijagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Mahaswamiji, at the Suttur Srikshetra on Friday night as part of the Shivadeepotsava program.

JSS College Hosts Rangayana Play ‘Sootradaara’ on Constitution of India

Mysuru, November 18, 2021: JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, located on Ooty Road, Mysuru, proudly hosted a captivating play titled ‘Sootradaara,’ presented by Rangayana, for its students.

The event witnessed the presence of Sri Addanda C. Cariappa, Director of Rangayana, who engaged in an interactive session with the students of JSS College following the play. During his address, he emphasized the importance of conveying the essence of the Indian Constitution to the people. Recognizing the efforts of the State and Union Governments in this regard, Cariappa stated, “As per the directives of the State Government, Rangayana is organizing the play ‘Sootradaara’ at various locations. This play revolves around the Indian Constitution and aims to educate students about the significant contributions of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in shaping our constitution.”

Presiding over the event, Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of JSS College, acknowledged the power of theater as an effective medium for communication. He lauded the initiative to educate people, including students, about the objectives of the constitution through this play. Prof. Sambashivaiah expressed, “The play ‘Sootradaara’ not only presents the constitutional objectives but also sheds light on the post-independent India’s situation. Through this play, we aim to create awareness among everyone about our constitution and the ideals set forth by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, emphasizing equality. It is crucial that we collectively work towards building an egalitarian society to give true meaning to such performances. Depicting the constitution’s objectives through acting is no easy task, but the Rangayana artists have done a commendable job. I hope this play receives wider recognition and platforms.”

Sri S. Ramnath, the writer of the play, emphasized the significance of conveying the excellence of our constitution to the present generation. He stated, “In today’s world, the right to freedom of expression is often misused, and the true objectives of the constitution remain misunderstood. Many people are unaware of the underlying purpose behind fundamental rights and duties. To strengthen democracy, it is imperative that everyone grasps its true essence. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar recognized this need and incorporated it into the constitution. The play ‘Sootradaara’ has been written against this backdrop.”

The event commenced with a warm welcome by Prof. H.C. Honnappa, the Principal of JSS College. Dr. B.S. Sudeep, Head of the Department of PG in Kannada, skillfully orchestrated the ceremony and concluded with a vote of thanks. Over 1,000 students eagerly watched the play and enthusiastically participated in the interactive session.

Shivadeepotsava at Suttur Srikshetra on Nov. 19

Suttur, November 16, 2021: The Suttur Srimath will observe the Shivadeepotsava program on November 19, at the Shrines in the Srimath premies in Suttur, as part of the auspicious Kritikotsava, in the divine presence of His Holiness Paramapujya Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji.

The Shivadeekshe-Lingadeekshe will be held at 6.00 pm, followed by a recital of devotional songs, by the teachers of the Music School. The Mahamangalarathi and Prakarotsava will be performed at 8.00 pm. Special pujas will be held at all the temples including the Sri Veerbhadreshwara and Mahadeshwara temples.

Devotees who attend the puja and other programs are requested to follow all the COVID precautionary guidelines provided by the government.

Promotion of Women Entrepreneurship: A Vital Focus, Says Dr. E. Mohanrao

Mysuru, November 15, 2021: Dr. E. Mohanrao, Director of the Khadi and Rural Industries Commission, emphasized the importance of promoting women entrepreneurship during a seminar on “Entrepreneurship Awareness” organized by the Food Processing and Engineering Division of the Department of Graduation and Post Graduation at JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, located on Ooty Road, Mysuru.

In his address, Dr. Mohanrao highlighted the significant contributions of women across various sectors and stressed the need for women to venture into entrepreneurship. He remarked, “Gone are the days when women were confined to the kitchen. Today, women are excelling in education and almost every sector. Numerous women have left their mark in various fields, including business. It is high time that more women direct their focus towards business and entrepreneurship. By acquiring training in multidisciplinary subjects, women can secure attractive jobs or even establish their own businesses.”

Presiding over the program, Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of JSS College, emphasized the importance of skill development and training in creating job opportunities. He stated, “Skill development plays a crucial role in enhancing one’s capabilities and opens doors to skill-based employment opportunities.”

“Youngsters should take the initiative to reduce corruption”: Sri Somanatha Rao

Mysuru, October 6, 2021: Sri Somanath Rao, Senior Divisional Manager at the New India Assurance Company Limited, Divisional Office – 2, Mysuru, emphasized the importance of youth taking the lead in reducing corruption within society. He shared his views during the Vigilance Awareness Week – 2021 event, themed “Independent India @75: Self Reliance with Integrity,” organized by JSS College of Arts, Commerce & Science in association with The New India Assurance Company Limited on November 11, 2021.

In his address as the chief guest, Sri Somanath Rao highlighted the need to eradicate corruption and emphasized the role of students in understanding social responsibility and combating corruption. He stressed the importance of every citizen being aware of the prevalence of corruption and called for a united effort by the educated individuals to eliminate corruption from society. Sri Somanath Rao encouraged raising voices against corruption and taking a stand against this widespread issue.

Presiding over the event, Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of JSS College, expressed concern about the increasing levels of corruption in various forms within society. He highlighted that corruption manifests itself in various ways, such as injustice, rape, black marketing, bribery, kidnapping for ransom, and cheating cases, and affects people irrespective of their caste, creed, or gender. Prof. Sambashivaiah emphasized the importance of awareness about government agencies working to curb corruption and urged students to strive for a society free from corruption. The Vigilance Awareness Week aimed to create awareness and combat the social evil of corruption.

During the event, students took an oath to fight against corruption. Cash prizes were awarded to the winners of the essay writing competition organized by The New India Assurance Company Limited. Girish Gowda B.R., a second-year B.Sc. student, secured first place, while Pruthvi Y.D., Shivaprasad N.N., and Kavya M.G., second-year M.Sc. students, secured second, third, and fourth places, respectively.

One-Day Workshop on ‘Fuel Saving and Water Conservation Measures’ Empowers Farmers for Sustainable Agriculture

Suttur, November 2, 2021: The JSS ICAR Krishi Vignana Kendra, Suttur, in association with the Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Corporation, Government of Karnataka, had organized a one-day workshop on the topic, “Fuel Saving and Water Conservation Measures,’ at the Allama Prabhu auditorium in the JSS Educational Institution complex in Suttur on October 30, 2021.

Sri G.H. Yogeesh, Deputy Director, Agriculture Department, Naganahalli District Agriculture Training Center, participated as the resource person. In his talk, he explained that the rivers, tube wells, tanks, and groundwater are major sources of water for agriculture. “The rivers in South India will be full and flow only during rainy seasons. There will be water scarcity for the remaining months of the year. Hence, the farmers should undertake cultivation across the slopes in their agricultural fields and construct pits. It will increase the groundwater level and reduce water scarcity,” he said. He asked the farmers not to burn field waste, and instead convert it as compost and use it to increase soil health. It also helps erosion of soil and absorbs rainwater, he added.

Sri N.M. Dinesh Kumar, Officer, Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Corporation, Bengaluru, in his address, informed that the Department has implemented several programs to enable fuel efficiency measures, keeping in mind the increasing demand for power and energy in the agricultural sector, and its proper management. “Along with agricultural pump sets, farmers are given solar panels. The solar panels are given at subsidized rates for farmers who install the solar panels on the rooftop of their houses, produce electricity, and supply it to KPTCL. Solar lamps are also being installed at public places,” he added. He also informed that more farmers should install solar pump sets in the fields.

Sri N.M. Shivashankarappa, Director, Horticulture Department, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Mysuru, presided over the program. In his address, he informed that in India, the agricultural sector is using 50% water and 30% power, leading to scarcity of both. “As a large portion of cultivable land is rain-based, rains play an important role, and the groundwater is an alternative source for it. As more farmers are marginal and poor, the government is providing power supply at subsidized rates or free of cost. Also, it is noticed that not many farmers know or are using alternative sources of energy, like solar energy. Hence, more farmers should try to know about it and give preference to install solar agricultural pump sets,” he added.

More than 100 farmers, including both men and women, members of the Farmer Producers’ Organization of Esha Foundation, farmers of the Dharmastala Rural Development Institute and Outreach organization, and B.Ed. students of JSS College took part in the workshop.

“Let Kannada Grow with Love”: Sri Addanda C. Kariappa’s Plea for Language Preservation

Mysuru, November 2, 2021: Sri Addanda C. Kariappa, Director of Rangayana, delivered a heartfelt message on the 66th Kannada Rajyotsava, expressing concern over the current struggle faced by the Kannada language and its survival. Speaking as the chief guest at a program held at JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science in Mysuru, Sri Kariappa stressed the importance of fostering love and nurturing to ensure the growth of Kannada.

Acknowledging the prevailing infatuation with the English language and societal laziness, Sri Kariappa highlighted the need for a renewed passion and dedication to the Kannada language. He emphasized that the development of Kannada is essential for the works of esteemed Kannada litterateurs and poets to hold true meaning. Sri Kariappa also lauded the efforts of the Mysuru Wadiyars and the Veerashaiva rulers, whose contributions played a significant role in protecting and promoting Kannada in their respective regions.

The event witnessed the hoisting of the State flag by Prof. B.V. Sambashivarao, Chief Executive of the College, who emphasized the historical significance of Kannada as a language. Prof. Sambashivarao highlighted Karnataka’s distinction as the first literate land, boasting a wealth of Ashoka inscriptions within the state. He commended the invaluable contributions of institutions such as Vidyavardhaka Sangha, Dharwad, and Kannada Sahitya Parishat, as well as revered individuals like Mylara Mahadevappa and Aluru Venkatraya, who dedicated their lives to the unification of the land and language.

Emphasizing that Kannada should not be limited to spoken communication, but also serve as an employment-based language, Prof. Sambashivarao underscored its holistic nature, encompassing the land, water sources, and culture. He called for rigorous discussions, consultations, and thoughtful engagement within society, leveraging the political sector to raise awareness and ensure the protection and development of Kannada.

The event showcased cultural programs featuring students from various departments, who presented mesmerizing performances including the recital of the State song, Farmers Anthem, and songs celebrating the Kannada language and culture.

The gathering comprised teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as students, united in their commitment to preserving and promoting the rich heritage of Kannada.
