Mental health is as important as physical health: Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah

Mysuru, December 1, 2022: “In this era of advanced technology, and fast-life, many people may face mental stress due to several reasons. Hence, like physical health, it is required to give importance to mental health,” observed Prof. B.V.Sambashiavaiah, Chief Executive of the JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru.

He participated in a workshop on the topic, “Awareness on Mental Health,” organized by the Clinical Psychology Department of the JSS Medical College Hospital, Mysuru, for the first year degree students of the JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science. Presiding over the workshop, he said, “we all can notice physical disorders. However, mental diseases will not come to our notice soon. Hence, everyone should develop a habit of having good thoughts, adopt a disciplined lifestyle and develop a positive mindset in order to stay away from mental problems.”

In his address, Dr. Manoj K. Pandey, Assistant Professor and Head Department of Clinical Psychology, expressed his view that awareness of maintaining a good mental health is much needed for today’s youth.

Prof. M.P. Vijayendra Kumar, Principal, JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, was present. Kum. Sahana rendered an invocation, and Dr. Prakash mastered the program.

Sessions on various topics were held after the stage program. Smt. Sangeetha, Research Associate of the JSS Medical College, explained the characteristics of ‘Depression and Anxiety’ and solutions to overcome it.

Smt. Nityashree spoke on the topic, ‘Stress Management,’ and explained the various ways of managing stress.

Sri P.K. Sudeep, Assistant Professor, JSS Medical College, spoke on the topic, ‘Anger Management.’ He explained in detail, the various forms of anger, problems that may arise due to anger, disadvantages, etc. He also explained the various methods to be calm.

Smt. Chitra, Research Associate, spoke on the topic, ‘Addiction and Methods of Prevention.’ She explained in brief the various types of addictions and methods to stay away from them.

Sri Subramanya Bhat spoke on the topic, ‘Yoga and Mental Health.’ He demonstrated how yoga helps to maintain a good mental health.

Dr. Manoj K. Pandey, Assistant Professor and Head, spoke about ‘Suicides and its Prevention.’ In his address he explained the various reasons for suicides with examples and how to overcome the problems.

Convenor of the workshop and Clinical Psychology Department Assistant Professor Sri Ritwik S. Kashyap was present.

More than 800 students participated in the workshop.

Suttur, November 28, 2022: “Both wins and losses should be treated equally in sports,” observed Minister for Sericulture, Youth Empowerment and Sports Sri K.C. Narayana Gowda.

The Minister K.C. Narayana Gowda inaugurated the three-day JSS Inter-Institutions Sports meet organized in commemoration of His Holiness Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji. The sports meet was inaugurated in the divine presence of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji on Monday.

In his address, he appreciated the efforts made by the JSS Mahavidyapeetha for encouraging sports among the students. “Along with providing good quality education, the JSS Mahavidyapeetha is also giving stress on the overall development of the students. All those who are taking part in the sports meet today are lucky. You will rever and cherish these moments in your lives. I wholeheartedly thank His Holiness Swamiji for encouraging many students to engage in sports and enabling them to take part at the national level,” he added.

MLA Dr. Yateendra Siddaramaiah presided over the program. In his address, he mentioned it as a grand event and felt that it would be very helpful for the student’s physical and mental development. “Sports will develop leadership qualities among the students. I congratulate and wish the best of luck to all the participants of this sports meet,” he said.

The chief guest, Commissioner of the State, Bharath Scouts and Guides, and former Minister Sri P.G. R. Sindhia compared the JSS Mahavidyapeetha to a banyan tree for students. “The Sri Suttur Math and JSS Mahavidyapeetha have given shelter and education to thousands of students. Today’s parade was a feast for the eyes. It is so nice to see the students marching like disciplined soldiers. Sports and games provide peace to the minds and souls. Suttur Swamiji is an asset to our State. Any program that is organized under his guidance will be very neat and wonderful. The role of physical education instructors is vital in sports. All of you who are taking part in today’s event are so fortunate,” he said.

The sports teams gave a guard of honor to the guests. Around 3316 students are taking part in the three-day sports event in different categories.

Earlier the program commenced with an invocation by the students of the JSS Residential School, Suttur. Sri Lokeshappa welcomed and Sri H.S. Gangadharaswamy gave a vote of thanks. Sri D.M. Siddalingaiah mastered the program.

Suttur, November 28, 2022: Rudrabhisheka, Ashottattara, Praakarotsava, and special pujas were held at the shrines of His Holiness Adijagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Mahaswamiji and His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, today early in the morning, as part of the 36th death anniversary of Sri Rajendra Mahaswamji, in the divine presence of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Deshikendra Mahaswamiji.

Bhoomi puja of all the mandapas, auditorium, cultural programs, and the Jatara Mahotsav dasoha programs was also conducted as part of the His Holiness Adijagadguru Sri Shivaratheeshwara Shivayogi Mahaswami’s Jatra Mahotsav, which will be held from January 18 to 23, at the Suttur Srikshetra.

Jatra preparatory meeting: The preparatory meeting of conveners of various Jatra Mahotsav committees, leaders of the surrounding villages, and villagers was held. Heads of various maths, including the Vatalu, Bettadapura, Chikkatuppuru, Maadahalli, Kuderu, Chucnchahalli, Naviluru, Nanjangud, Ragibommanahalli maths and Haraguru Charamurthy, officers of the JSS Mahavidyapeetha, and devotees were present.

While Sri Subbappa welcomed, Sri H.L. Prakash was the compere of the program. He also gave a vote of thanks. Earlier, the program commenced with an invocation by the students of the JSS School, Suttur.

Constitution Day observed at JSS College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Mysuru

Mysuru, November 28, 2022: The JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru, organized a program on the occasion of Constitution Day.

In his address, Chief Guest Prof. R.M. Chintamani, Retd. Professor explained, in brief, the history of the Indian Constitution. Informing that the Morley-Minto Reform of 1909 is the most prominent, he observed that every Indian should be well aware of the significant parts of our constitution like the pre-amble, fundamental rights, state policy, directive principles, etc. “Our constitution is one of the great constitutions in the world, which has given prominence to social justice,” he observed.

The Chief Executive of the College, Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah presided over the program. He explained the purpose of forming the constitution, various articles of our constitution, parts, and annexures. “Let us all understand the objectives of our constitution and become good citizens of our country,” he said.

Prof. M.P. Vijayendra Kumar, Principal of the College read the Pre-amble of the Constitution.

JSS Inter-Institutions Sports Meet

Mysuru, November 28, 2022: The JSS Inter-Institution Sports meet will be held from November 28 to 30, at the Srikshetra Suttur, in commemoration of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji.

The sports meet will be inaugurated at 4.00 pm on November 28, Monday, by the Sericulture, Youth Empowerment and Sports Minister, Government of Karnataka, Sri K.C. Narayanagowda, in the divine presence of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji. MLA Dr. Yateendra Siddaramaiah will preside.

The four-day sports meet will host various sports competitions, including 100, 200, 400, 600, 800, and 1,500 meters running, 4×100 m relays, shot put, discus throw, javelin throw, long jump, and high jump. A total of 17 different sports and games, including Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Volleyball, Ball Badminton, and Throwball tournaments will also be conducted.

More than 3,500 athletes from 130 various Institutions of the JSS Mahavidyapeetha will take part in the sports meet. There will be 125 sports officers. This sports meet is conducted every year for the last 26 years to encourage participation of school and college children in sports and games.

Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji’s 36th Death Anniversary and Jatra Mahotsav on Nov. 28

Suttur, November 26, 2022: The consultation meeting for the 36th Death Anniversary of His Holiness Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji and Jatra Mahotsav has been organized on November 28, Monday, at Suttur Srikshetra.

Rudrabhisheka, Laksha Bilwarchane, Ashttottara, and special pujas will be conducted on November 28, from early
morning. The Bhumipuja of the Jatra Mahotsav mandaps will be held at 9.30 am on that day in the presence of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji and heads of various maths, leaders, and the public. The preparatory meeting of the Jatra Mahotsav will be held at 10.00 am.

All the devotees and the public are requested to take part in the puja and other programs in large numbers and have the blessings of the Sriguru.

Science Expo 2022-23

Suttur, November 23, 2022: The Directorate of the Urdu and Other Minorities Languages Schools, School Education and Literacy Department, Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Bengaluru and District Education and Training Institute, Vasanth Mahal, Mysuru and the Sir M. Visveswaraiah Technical University, Bengaluru had jointly organized a district-level Science Exhibition at the DIET, Mysuru on November 18.

Candidates under 7 categories from 7 taluks of Mysuru District took part in the competition. V.Vinodkumar, Science Teacher of our school demonstrated the ‘Automatic Hand Sanitizer’ model and won first prize and got selected to the State-level competitions.

The administrative officer, Heads of various departments and teachers have congratulated him.

He along with his wife Sudha Murthy participated in the prayer meeting held at the JSS Residential School, in Suttur, on November 21, Monday. In his address to the students, he observed, “the JSS Residential School in Suttur has been providing free education and boarding facilities to thousands of students irrespective of caste, religion, or race. There are students here who have come from various other districts and States as well. Along with quality education, the school is providing them with free food and lodging and makes them good citizens of the country and society by equipping them with good culture. By establishing educational institutions in other countries and providing quality education, Sri Suttur Math is making a priceless contribution to society. All of you should work hard and become conscious citizens of the country and contribute to the nation,” he advised.

In her address, Chairman of Infosys Foundation Smt. Sudha Murthy recited a vachana and said, “like constant reading and hard work, concentration is also very important for the students to achieve their goals and objectives.” She also advised the students to treat teachers and elders with respect and expressed her view that proper guidance and advice are necessary for today’s society.

In his blessings to the students, His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji appreciated the behavior, simple living, and down-to-earth attitude of Sri Narayana Murthy and Sudha Murthy. “This couple had to sell their jewellery to start Infosys. Starting from scratch, today, it has grown into a world-renowned organization. Today Infosys is known as one of the most reputed companies in the world and has provided jobs to more than three lakh people. Not only this, they also treat the employees as their family members. Narayana Murhty couple’s son-in-law Sri Rishi Sunak is now the Prime Minister of Britain, which once ruled our country. It is indeed a matter of pride and honor,” he added.

Business Process Management Industries to be set up soon in cities: Mr. Karthigan Munuswamy

Mysuru, November 18, 2022: “The Future Skills Program of the National Association of Software and Service Companies, under the Skill India initiative of the Ministry of Electronics, Information and Technology, Govt. of India, the Business Process Management (BPM) industries will boom in the coming years, and there will be a lot of employment opportunities for young graduates in India,” observed Mr. Kartigan Munuswamy, Associate Director, Talent Acquisition, Firstsource Ltd., Bengaluru.

He participated in a program on Skilling for Business Process Management, held at the JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru, organized in association with the NASSCOM-Futureskills and Firstsource Ltd., for undergraduate students. “Graduates who possess good communication skills, problem-solving qualities, analytical and business development skills will be on top priority in the BPM industry,” he said.

Mr. Vineeth Kumar, Senior Manager, Human Resources, firstsource Ltd., spoke on the deep dive into the BPM industry in India. He briefed the opportunities, roles, work responsibilities, growth, the importance of stability, and benefits as an Associate, Consultant, Analyst, Manager, Senior Manager, and other top levels in the BPM industries.

Mr. Dinesh Kumar Panigrahi, Regional Lead, NASSCOM, Bengaluru, presented an overview of the FutureSkills Prime program. Ms. Priya George, Senior Manager, BPM, NASSCOM, Bengaluru, spoke about the salient features of the BPM Associate Programme. Mr. Sathish M., Customer Success Manager, FutureSkills NASSCOM, Bengaluru, explained the training and placement activities for the BPM industry. Ms. Palak of NASSCOM was present.

The Chief Executive of the College, Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, welcomed the guests. In his address, he spoke about the role and importance of BPM.
