A set of hobbies is a form of personality: Swami Mahamedananda
Mysuru, May 3, 2023: Sri Swami Mahamedananda of Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama inaugurated a three-day camp organized for the students of Pharmacy and Life Sciences at the Sri Suttur Kshetra. The event started on May 3 and ended on May 5.
During the opening ceremony, Swami Mahamedananda delivered a lecture on “Achieving Dual Success in Life,” where he emphasized the importance of achieving success in two aspects, external and internal. He noted that while monetization provides happiness in the physical world, a valuable life gives internal happiness. He further stressed that good hobbies are a form of personality and a reflection of our thoughts and actions. He encouraged participants to develop good hobbies and habits by controlling their thoughts through self-control, saying that our internal strength and talent will awaken when we shoulder responsibilities in our jobs.
Sri S. Praveen Kumar of the Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement, Sarguru, delivered a lecture on “Constructing Professional Life with an Objective,” highlighting that society can only become better if individuals strive to improve themselves. He noted that our goals should be focused on what we can contribute to society rather than changing the world.
Dr. Arun Ramanagarm of Sri Padmavathi Ayush Brain and Spine Rehabilitation Institute, Ramanagara spoke on “Yoga and Nature Cure,” emphasizing that yoga is a good cure for physical and mental illnesses. He explained various asanas such as Yama, NIyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dhaarana, Dhyana, and Samadhi, which can bring people closer to god.
The camp, held in the presence of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, began each day with a mass prayer, yoga-meditation, and a tour of Srikshetra. Participants also took part in desi games and ended each day with cultural programs. About 100 students attended the event.
