A set of hobbies is a form of personality: Swami Mahamedananda

Mysuru, May 3, 2023: Sri Swami Mahamedananda of Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama inaugurated a three-day camp organized for the students of Pharmacy and Life Sciences at the Sri Suttur Kshetra. The event started on May 3 and ended on May 5.

During the opening ceremony, Swami Mahamedananda delivered a lecture on “Achieving Dual Success in Life,” where he emphasized the importance of achieving success in two aspects, external and internal. He noted that while monetization provides happiness in the physical world, a valuable life gives internal happiness. He further stressed that good hobbies are a form of personality and a reflection of our thoughts and actions. He encouraged participants to develop good hobbies and habits by controlling their thoughts through self-control, saying that our internal strength and talent will awaken when we shoulder responsibilities in our jobs.

Sri S. Praveen Kumar of the Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement, Sarguru, delivered a lecture on “Constructing Professional Life with an Objective,” highlighting that society can only become better if individuals strive to improve themselves. He noted that our goals should be focused on what we can contribute to society rather than changing the world.

Dr. Arun Ramanagarm of Sri Padmavathi Ayush Brain and Spine Rehabilitation Institute, Ramanagara spoke on “Yoga and Nature Cure,” emphasizing that yoga is a good cure for physical and mental illnesses. He explained various asanas such as Yama, NIyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dhaarana, Dhyana, and Samadhi, which can bring people closer to god.

The camp, held in the presence of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, began each day with a mass prayer, yoga-meditation, and a tour of Srikshetra. Participants also took part in desi games and ended each day with cultural programs. About 100 students attended the event.

300th Shivanubhava Dasoha

The 300th Shivanubhava Dasoha was held at Sri Suttur Math, Mysuru in the divine presence of HH Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji on 29th April 2023. Shivanubhava Dasoha lecture series commenced on 12th May 1996. Since then the programme has been conducted on the last Saturday of every month. The topics related to religion, spirituality, vachanas, health, society, and lifestyle are discussed in the programme.

Prof. HS Shivaprakash, renowned Poet and Dramatist delivered the 300th lecture, Sri Vishwanath P Hiremath, Director, Dept. of Kannada and Culture, presided over the event. The event was sponsored by Smt. D.C. Radha and P Shivaraju.

Body is temple for man, mind and soul is God: Prof. Siddu Yapalaravi

Mysuru, April 24, 2023: A workshop on ‘Sharana Tatwa’ was organized for JSS Ayurveda, Speech and Hearing and Nursing College students from April 22 to 24, 2023, at Sri Suttur Srikshetra. The camp witnessed the participation of 204 students and was held in the presence of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji.

Prof. Siddu Yapalaparavi, Principal, Timmapura K.U.S.R. PU College, Gadag District, addressed the participants and emphasized the importance of the body, mind, and soul. He stated, “The body is a temple for man, and mind and soul is God. Our Sharanas created democratic values in the 12th Century itself. Sharane Akkamahadevi is the first woman in our country to get materialistic, emotional, physical, and religious freedom. Such freedom is essential for all the women in the present situation. Service is not important, services with values are essential.”

Dr. Dharmaprasad, CEO and Chief Scientist, Biocon Pharmaceutics Pvt. Ltd., delivered a lecture on building good relationships among human beings. He highlighted the importance of developing good communication skills, listening skills, acceptable attitudes, problem-solving skills, and emotional bonding. He said, “Listening to others’ ideas and opinions is important in maintaining a relationship. We can maintain good relationships if we handle our words, body language, cultural understanding, and problem-solving properly.”

The day in the camp began with a group prayer, yoga, and meditation, followed by desi games in the evening. The participants presented a cultural program in the evening after a prayer.

Mysuru, April 24, 2023: The Women Research Center at the University of Mysore organized a workshop titled “Interpersonal Relationship and Team Organization” for students of JSS Ayurveda College, Speech and Hearing Institute, and Nursing. The workshop aimed to enhance the students’ communication and leadership skills, enabling them to work collaboratively in teams.

Dr. Ayisha M. Shariff, Director of the Women Research Center, emphasized the importance of interpersonal relationships and team organization skills in her inaugural address. Dr. Shariff stated that to organize a team successfully, a person should be able to shed their ego and listen to others’ opinions. She also highlighted the importance of mutual participation and respect for one another’s contributions.

The Department of Psychology at Maharaja College, represented by Professor Lancy D’Souza, delivered a lecture on “Communication Skills.” He emphasized the significance of different types of communication skills and their influence on a person’s personality development. Professor D’Souza stated that communication involves sharing feelings, opinions, and information between people and groups, and nonverbal communication constitutes 85% of our communication.

Sri S. Shadakshari, Chairman of the Ramanashri Group, Bengaluru, presented a lecture on “Don’t Take Life Seriously,” emphasizing the need to face problems with a smile and find solutions. He reminded the audience that everyone faces problems in life, and that we should enjoy every moment and express gratitude towards those who help us.

The workshop was conducted under the divine presence of His Holiness Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji. It began with group prayer, yoga, and meditation, followed by desi games and a cultural program.

A total of 204 students participated in the workshop, which provided a comprehensive approach to personal and professional development. The workshop’s diverse activities helped students develop their interpersonal relationship, team organization, communication, and leadership skills.

The workshop has received positive feedback from the participants, who found the lectures and activities valuable and insightful.

Experts Gather at “NIYATI” Conclave to Discuss Integrated Approach to Cancer Care

Mysuru, March 29, 2023: The Department of Postgraduate Studies in Kayachikitsa organized “NIYATI” – a conclave on an integrated approach to cancer care with a focus on incorporating various sciences for better outcomes and quality of life for cancer patients. The event aimed to showcase how Ayurveda can support integrated cancer care.

Distinguished oncologists from Mysuru and Padmashree awardee Vaidya Balendu Prakash from Dehradun were among the esteemed resource persons at the “NIYATI” conclave. Upon their arrival, the guests were given a tour of the hospital’s various wards, Panchakarma therapy sections, and highlighted on the various treatments available for different disorders. The main focus was on the hospital’s cancer care services.

Dr. Madhusudan BG, the Head of Department of Roganidana at JSS Ayurveda College, presided over the ceremony. Dr. Sarbeswar Kar, the Medical Superintendent, welcomed and introduced the esteemed guests to the audience.

Dr. Beena MD, a Reader in the Department of Kayachikitsa, provided the resource persons with a briefing on Ayurveda, highlighting the benefits of Ayurvedic and Panchakarma therapies in the treatment of cancer, and the care provided to cancer patients at their hospital. Dr. Beena also presented an overview of ongoing research activities and clinical trials conducted at the hospital, as well as insights into the patients referred to and treated at the hospital.

During the sessions, a panel discussion was held by experts who expressed their opinions on the integration of the two medical systems to provide the best care to cancer patients based on scientific understanding. The panel agreed on the importance of complete support for integrating the two systems and meeting the needs of patients through collaboration.

All panel members unanimously suggested the need for more evidence-based studies in Ayurveda for cancer care to support an integrative approach and benefit society. The in-depth discussion emphasized the important role of Ayurvedic intervention in improving the quality of life of cancer patients by combating side effects or enhancing compliance of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and incorporating psychotherapy in cancer care. The discussion also highlighted the various areas of cancer treatment where Ayurveda can be an adjuvant therapy, reducing side effects such as nausea, vomiting, and mouth ulcers, and incorporating Panchakarma purification therapies and rejuvenation therapies for cancer prevention and reducing the risk of recurrence.

Dr. Veena G Rao, the Head of Department of Panchakarma, emphasized the importance of rejuvenation therapies in Ayurveda, which can help healthy individuals in preventing many deadly diseases. Dr. Rao also highlighted how Panchakarma therapies can be helpful to both diseased patients and healthy individuals.

Sri. R. Mahesh, the Director of Medical Education at JSS Mahavidyapeetha, assured in his presidential remarks that the institution will carry out further research to establish the cancer clinic as even more beneficial for cancer patients.

Dr. Rajesh A. Udapudi, the Dean and HOD of the Department of PG studies in Kayachikitsa, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all the experts for sharing their valuable inputs and thoughts on the integration in cancer care.

The conclave marks a significant milestone in the treatment and care of cancer patients, paving the way for integrated approaches and advancements in the field.

Free Mass Marriage Program in Suttur on April 30, 2023

Suttur, April 11, 2023: The Suttur Sri Veerasimhasana Samsthana Math will be conducting a free mass marriage program on April 30, 2023, Sunday, with the divine blessings of Paramapujya Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji.
Since February 2009, Samsthana Math has been conducting monthly free mass marriage programs, apart from the mass marriage program held during the Adijagadguru’s Jatra Mahotsav at Suttur Srikshetra.
This program aims to help couples who are economically challenged and cannot afford the expenses of a traditional wedding ceremony. Sri Haraguru Charamurthy will participate in the mass marriages held at Suttur Srikshetra and bless the couples.
The program is open to couples where the groom is above 21 years of age and the bride is above 18 years of age. Interested individuals can send applications with photographs of the bride and groom, caste certificates, and certificate or school marks card copies as proof of age. Child marriages are strictly prohibited.
