Physiotherapy is a field which provides information about human body mechanics in a normal and abnormal state of health. It involves the evaluation and treatment of numerous physical conditions affecting all age groups and aims at restoring normal movements, function, relieves pain, prevents illness and injury.

Prospects of the Course
Physiotherapy as a profession has its role in various disciplines like Orthopedics, Neurology, Pediatrics, Sports Medicine, Cardiorespiratory conditions, General Surgery and Community Based Rehabilitation.

Scope of Physiotherapy
Physiotherapists have a wide range of opportunities to work in India and abroad. There are various openings in hospitals, outpatient clinics, nursing homes, fitness club, sports team, government and nongovernment organizations.

What do Physiotherapists do?
Physiotherapists help patients improve their physical functions. They examine the patients by testing their muscle strength, joint motion, sensory and neurological functions, coordination, balance, flexibility, postural screening, movement analysis, and other evaluations. Based on the outcome a treatment plan is drawn up. It may comprise of instrumental or non-instrumental intervention. Physiotherapists perform various hands-on techniques like soft tissue mobilization and joint mobilization skills to reduce pain, increase joint motion and soft tissue flexibility. Therapeutic exercises help to restore strength, movement, balance and coordination and finally to a complete functional recovery. A physiotherapist reviews the conditions and monitors the progress to aid recovery. Physiotherapists are an integral part of the rehabilitation team comprising of physicians, social workers, occupational therapists, nurses, vocational counsellors, psychologists, prosthetists and Orthotists.

Background:

JSS College of Physiotherapy was started in 1999. Rajiv Gandhi University of Medical Sciences, Bengaluru, recognizes the institution. The objective of the college is to train the students to understand the physical, social and psychological needs of patients, design suitable treatment methods and develop comprehensive evaluation and rehabilitation of people with physical disabilities. The college offers BPT (Degree) and MPT (Postgraduate Degree) courses. Hundreds of people benefit from the medical camps organized by the college every year.

About JSS College of Physiotherapy:

The institute is located adjacent to the JSS Hospital, Mahatma Gandhi Road,  Karnataka,  in an independent campus of 20,000 sqft. The institute has specialised laboratories for all subjects and a well-stocked library with access to physical and digital resources. In addition to academics, the college provides adequate facilities for sports and recreation. There is a spacious and well-equipped autonomous department at the JSS Hospital.  The college has collaboration and postings with government and nongovernmental organizations in Mysore, besides extensive community rehabilitation programs. The college is a part of the Medical College, and hence all the facilities are at the disposal of the students. This helps them in gaining valuable experience under the guidance of excellent teaching faculty and good laboratories.
