H.D. Kote, July 13, 2021: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vignan Kendra, located in Suttur, organized a comprehensive training program focused on the utilization of Nano Urea in tomato cultivation. The event took place in Maagudilu village, H.D. Kote Taluk, and witnessed active participation from 25 progressive farmers.
Dr. G.M. Vinay, Horticulture Scientist at JSS KVK, Suttur, delivered a detailed presentation highlighting the improved cultivation methods specific to tomato crops. Participants gained valuable insights into nutrition management, effective soil and water management techniques, and were made aware of Nano Urea, its usage, and the associated benefits. Dr. Vinay explained that the utilization of Nano Urea can potentially double farmers’ income, with 500 ml of Nano Urea being equivalent to 50 kg of traditional urea. He further advised farmers to mix 4 ml of Nano Urea in 1 liter of water and spray it on the crop 30 days after sowing. An additional application after 15 days would enhance the crop’s nitrogen uptake, resulting in expected yields.
Sri J.G. Rajanna, Soil Science Assistant, provided valuable information on improving soil health, equipping the participants with knowledge and techniques to enhance the productivity of their farming operations.
The training program was facilitated by Sri Nagaraj, and it offered a platform for farmers to exchange ideas, learn from experts, and enhance their understanding of the latest agricultural practices.
H.D. Kote Taluk, July 10:The ICAR JSS Krishi Vignan Kendra, situated in Suttur, organized a frontline demonstration of the new paddy variety KMP-220, accompanied by a training program for farmers. The event aimed to showcase the benefits of seed treatment and familiarize farmers with the advantages of the KMP-220 paddy variety.
Smt. Divya H.V., Senior Scientist and Incharge of JSS KVK, delivered an informative session on the importance of seed treatment in paddy cultivation. She emphasized that paddy crops are susceptible to various diseases originating from seeds and soil. By investing a modest amount of Rs. 50-Rs. 100 in seed treatment, farmers can prevent diseases, safeguard their crops, and reduce production costs. Smt. Divya urged farmers to prioritize seed treatment and adopt it as a crucial practice in their farming routines.
As part of the program, the new paddy variety KMP-220, which closely resembles the Jyothi variety, was distributed to farmers for experimental purposes. The KMP-220 variety offers higher yields and demonstrates greater resistance to diseases compared to the Jyothi variety. It has been officially released by the Agricultural University. By distributing this variety to farmers, the aim is to assess its performance, yield, and overall quality, aligning with the farmers’ capacity and expectations.
Smt. Divya also emphasized the importance of soil testing and provided guidance on the proper methods for collecting soil samples. This initiative enables farmers to obtain accurate information about their soil’s composition, allowing them to make informed decisions regarding fertilizer application and soil health management.
During the program, Sri Shamraj, Cultivation Scientist at JSS KVK, and Sri Jayram, Officer from Dharmsthala Organization, shared valuable insights on mechanization techniques applicable to paddy cultivation, empowering farmers with knowledge and strategies to enhance their productivity and efficiency.
The training program witnessed active participation from 34 farmers, who benefited from the interactive sessions and hands-on demonstrations facilitated by the ICAR JSS Krishi Vignan Kendra.

H.D. Kote, July 10, 2021: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vignan Kendra, Suttur had organized a program at the Maagudilu village in H.D. Kote taluk to educate the farmers about the new paddy variety MSN-99.
Sri Shamraj, Cultivation Scientist, JSS KVK, Suttur, explained to the farmers about the improved cultivation measures, integrated nutrient management in paddy, soil, and water management, and improved paddy varieties. He informed that the MSN-99 variety is developed as an alternative to the small rice variety RNR-15048, and this new variety will provide yield sooner and is suitable during both the onset and last rains. Hence, it helps to prevent loss of yield. The new paddy variety MSN-99 was distributed to the farmers on this occasion.
Suttur, July 10, 2021: The Suttur Sri Veerasimhasana Samsthana Math has been conducting monthly free mass marriage programs since February 2009, apart from the mass marriage program conducted during the Adijagadguru’s Jatra Mahotsav held at Suttur Srikshetra, with the divine blessings of Paramapujya Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji.
Sri Haraguru Charamurthy will participate in the mass marriages held at Suttur Srikshetra along with the relatives and friends of the couples and bless them.
The groom should be above 21 years of age and the groom should be above 18 years of age to participate in the mass marriage program. Interested people can send applications along with the photograph of the bride and groom, along with caste certificates and certificate or school marks card copy as proof of age. Child marriages are strictly prohibited.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic and government guidelines, all those who participate should compulsorily wear a mask, maintain social distancing and also undergo all other guidelines like thermal scanning, washing hands, and sanitizing.

Smt. Divya H.V., Senior Scientist and In-charge of JSS KVK, Suttur, enlightened farmers about the vital importance of seed treatment and conducted a practical demonstration. She emphasized that paddy crops are susceptible to diseases originating from both seeds and soil. By investing a mere Rs. 100 in seed treatment, farmers can effectively prevent several diseases while reducing production costs. Additionally, seed treatment provides farmers with the assurance of achieving optimal yields, unhindered by potential diseases. Smt. Divya urged farmers to recognize the significance of seed treatment and make it a mandatory practice in their agricultural operations.
As part of the program, selected farmers were provided with the new paddy variety KMP 225, which closely resembles the renowned IR 64 variety but possesses a slim and elongated appearance. The distribution of the KMP 225 variety aims to allow farmers to conduct experimental trials and assess its yield potential and comparability. Smt. Divya emphasized the importance of soil testing for farmers who received this variety, ensuring they obtain accurate information about their soil’s composition. She instructed farmers to collect soil samples from eight different locations per acre, digging half a foot deep, and drying the samples in a sheltered area. These steps will enable farmers to make informed decisions based on soil characteristics and ensure optimal crop growth.
A total of 34 farmers, comprising both men and women, from Arakere village actively participated in the training program. The presence of Smt. Netravathi Yettinamani, Home Scientist at JSS KVK, further enriched the event.

Kollegal, July 7, 2021: Dr. Nagendra, Taluk Medical Officer of Kollegal, emphasized that vaccination is the most potent weapon to combat the deadly Coronavirus. His remarks came during the inauguration of a COVID-19 vaccination camp held at JSS Women’s College in Kollegal on July 6. Dr. Nagendra stressed the importance of a successful vaccination campaign in the fight against the ongoing pandemic.
Addressing the attendees, Dr. Nagendra urged everyone to place their trust in science and acknowledge the remarkable efforts of scientists in developing vaccines within a remarkably short timeframe. He urged individuals to actively create awareness among their relatives, friends, and neighbors, encouraging them to receive the vaccine.
Presiding over the event, Prof. Umesh, Principal of JSS Women’s College, Kollegal, expressed his belief that India cannot achieve pandemic-free status until the virus is eradicated worldwide. He highlighted the crucial step taken by the Government of India in providing free vaccinations for all citizens. While acknowledging the decline in the intensity of the second wave, Prof. Umesh stressed the importance of remaining vigilant. He emphasized the continued adherence to safety measures such as wearing masks, maintaining social distance, and strictly following all guidelines.
Over 100 students from the college received their vaccinations during the event, which witnessed the presence of lecturers Smt. Smitha, Smt. Mamatha, Smt. Bhramaramba, Smt. Vani, as well as vaccination staff.
The vaccination camp at JSS Women’s College, Kollegal, represents another significant effort to mitigate the impact of the Coronavirus by promoting widespread vaccination and adherence to public health guidelines.

Let it begin with us, then at home, in our locality and everywhere,” opined Smt. Smitha, Lecturer, Dept. of Geography, JSS Women’s College, Kollegal.
She delivered a virtual lecture on the topic, “Environment conservation impossible without stopping usage of plastic,” organized by the Environment Conservation Committee, National Service Scheme, of the JSS Women’s College, Kollegal.
In her lecture, she said, “Though plastic is prohibited in the State and the country, all of them including businessmen, customers have continued using it unabatedly, which is very unfortunate. The methane gas emitted from plastic is 30 times dangerous than carbon dioxide. It leads to the extinction of flora and fauna. Hence, we all should pledge not to use plastic and save our future generations from disaster.”
In his presidential address, Prof. Umesh, Principal expressed his view, “plastic appears harmless from outside, but it can prove fatal to us. We conducted the cleanliness drive successfully. Likewise, we should also strive to build a completely plastic-free society. Many other alternate products to plastic are available in the market. We should start using them and pledge not to use plastic,” he said.
