Bharath Scouts and Guides Fosters Patriotism Among Youth: JSS Mahavidyapeetha Hosts Seven-Day Training Camp

Suttur, December 1, 2023: Sri P. Vishwanath, District Chief Commissioner of the Bharath Scouts and Guides Chapter, Mysuru, inaugurated a seven-day training camp organized by JSS Mahavidyapeetha in collaboration with the Shri Jayachamarjendra Scouts and Guides Head Office. The camp, aimed at benefiting teachers from JSS Schools, commenced on December 1, 2023, at Suttur.

In his address, Sri P. Vishwanath highlighted the potential of schools in developing positive characteristics such as service-mindedness, leadership, cooperation, and respect among students. He advocated for the establishment of Bharath Scouts and Guides branches in all JSS Schools to contribute to the formation of responsible citizens.

Chief guest Sri B.A. Rajashekar, Director of the School Education Division, JSS MVP, shared plans to introduce Scouts and Guides branches in all JSS Schools, aligning with the vision of His Holiness Jagadguru Shri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji. He urged teachers to perceive this initiative as integral to overall student development and encouraged active participation in extra-curricular activities.

Dr. C.J. Betsurmath, Executive Secretary of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, expressed delight at the enthusiastic involvement of students in the training camp, describing them as disciplined soldiers. He emphasized the responsibility of participants in countering the perceived decline of human values in the present era.

The training program, attended by senior office-bearers from Scouts and Guides, featured 116 trainees from various JSS schools. Activities included an invocation by the trainees, a welcome speech, and expressions of gratitude.

Shivadeepotsava Celebration Radiates Splendor in Suttur

Suttur, November 26, 2023: The sacred precincts of Suttur witnessed an exuberant display of devotion during the Shivadeepotsava celebration on Sunday, November 26, 2023. Special pooja programs were conducted at the Adijagadguru Shri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Mahaswamiji, Shri Someshwara, Shri Mahadeshwara, Shri Veerabhadreshwara, and Shri Narayanaswamy temples, in the divine presence of His Holiness Jagadguru Shri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji.

The Shivadeepotsava festivities included Mahamangalarathi and a silver chariot prakarotsava, culminating in a mass prayer rendered by the students of JSS School, Suttur.

During a thought-provoking lecture, Dr. K. Anantaramu, retired Kannada Professor from the University of Mysore, illuminated the significance of ‘Shivadepotsava.’ He emphasized the symbolic representation of worshiping Lord Shiva through lamp lighting. “Suttur, with its Kapila river’s sacred waters, is a divine place associated with Shivarathreeshwara Swamiji. Today, Suttur glows with the radiance of lights, resembling heaven on earth. Lighting lamps symbolizes the greatness of light, representing knowledge that dispels darkness. Through lamp lighting, we can fill the world with the divine energy of knowledge and illuminate our desires. Moving from falsehood towards truth and from darkness towards light encapsulates the essence of light,” he observed.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Appaji C.N. Nadagowda, MLA of Muddebihala Assembly Constituency, Vijayapura District, urged attendees to approach life with love and concern rather than a commercial perspective. He emphasized the importance of the education received at Suttur, expressing confidence that the blessings of teachers would guide the students towards making the country proud.

Renowned Kannada litterateur Kum. Veerbhadrappa commended Suttur Math for spreading the light of knowledge in line with Basavanna’s vachana. He urged students to prioritize their studies, considering the JSS Institution as a microcosm of India, with students hailing from various states.

The enchanting lighting decorations and a spectacular crackers exhibition added to the joy of devotees and visitors. The event drew pontiffs from various maths, distinguished guests, and hundreds of devotees from surrounding villages.

JSS College Mysuru Inaugurates Cultural Forum and Sports Activities: Eminent Speakers Laud Kannada Language and Advocate for Holistic Student Development

Mysuru, November 22, 2023: The JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science on Ooty Road, Mysuru, recently hosted the inaugural Cultural Forum and Sports Activities, featuring esteemed speakers who underscored the significance of language, culture, and sports in the holistic development of students.

Dr. Mahesh Joshi, Chairman of Kannada Sahitya Parishath and recipient of the prestigious title ‘Nadoja,’ spoke passionately about the uniqueness of the Kannada language. He emphasized its rich script, heritage, and history, declaring Kannada as a “perfect language” due to its remarkable alignment with spoken and written forms. Dr. Joshi urged attendees to cherish the privilege of speaking Kannada and actively promote its use, citing it as an eternal aspect of both language and culture.

Addressing the students, Dr. Joshi expressed concern about the increasing prevalence of mobile phone usage, urging them to balance their activities by actively participating in sports and learning. He highlighted the role of spirituality and culture in achieving perfection, lamenting the low representation of Kannadigas in defense forces and sports.

Prof. M. Chandrakumar, President (Retd.) of the Physical Education and Sports Science Division at the University of Mysore, echoed the sentiment, recalling Swami Vivekananda’s call to prioritize sports fields over hospitals and temples. Prof. Chandrakumar stressed the importance of physical activity for students’ physical and mental well-being, advocating for a minimum of 40 to 60 minutes of daily engagement in sports.

Sri G.S. Somashekar, Deputy Commissioner, Administration Division, Mysore City Corporation, encouraged students to participate in sports and extracurricular activities alongside their academic pursuits. He emphasized the pursuit of goals, time management, and the quality of education, citing examples such as Thomas Alva Edison to motivate the students.

The event also saw the presence of other notable figures, including Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the College, Dr. S. Pratibha, Principal, and Sri M. Karthik, Convener of the Sports Forum.

Dr. N.R. Chandregowda Highlights the Cultural Significance of Kannada at 68th Kannada Rajyotsava Ceremony

Mysuru, November 3, 2023: Dr. N.R. Chandregowda, Associate Professor at Karnataka State Open University, Mysuru, delivered a poignant address at the 68th Kannada Rajyotsava program, underscoring the vital role of Kannada as not just a mother tongue, but as the language that resides in the heart of its speakers.

Dr. Chandregowda emphasized the urgency of protecting native languages, asserting that the erosion of a language equates to the erosion of its cultural heritage. He stated, “Kannada is not just our mother tongue, but it is the language of our heart. The richness and identity of Kannada has a long heritage.”

The ceremony, held at JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science on Ooty Road, Mysuru, on November 1, 2023, saw Dr. Chandregowda as the esteemed chief guest. Mysuru, October 19, 2023: In a resounding call to action, Mr. Shivashankar B, Chief Executive of SJCE-STEP, underscored the paramount importance of cultivating an ‘Inbox thinking’ mindset and unwavering enthusiasm for success in any endeavor. This motivational address was delivered during the Ideathon for Startups INNOVATRACE-2023, a G20 Jan Bhagidari event organized by the Startup Cell under the auspices of IQAC program. The event took place at JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru, on October 19, 2023.

Mr. Shivashankar exhorted students and researchers to view problems as challenges and to stand prepared to confront obstacles in their careers with resilience, all while gleaning lessons from past missteps.

Prof. B V Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the college, delivered an enlightening presidential address, highlighting India’s abundant resources and opportunities. He emphasized the increasing role of technology and industry in the country’s trajectory, noting that the Government of India, UGC, and State Governments have implemented numerous schemes to nurture entrepreneurship among college students, significantly bolstering the nation’s economic advancement. Prof. B V Sambashivaiah stressed the imperative for students to translate theoretical ideas into practical projects, underscoring the pivotal role of the Start-up Cell as a platform for cultivating entrepreneurial talent.

The third prize was jointly awarded to two teams, Jashmitha and team from JSSAHER, and Shreesharan B. and team from the college.

The program was inaugurated by Shri Aravind Kumar Chouhan, Assistant General Manager of the National Seed Corporation. In her address, Smt. H.V. Divya, Incharge Head and Senior Scientist at ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Suttur, elaborated on the activities and functions of JSS KVK. She discussed the facilities offered, seed conservation techniques, storage methods, and the opportunities for seed production in new varieties such as Urad LBG 791 and Cowpea KBC 9, under the legume seed production program.

The digital realm was explored through a presentation by e-Nam App officer Shri Mahesh K.G., who explained the operations of the e-Nam App, empowering farmers with digital tools for their agricultural needs.

Dr. Rakshith Raj U.M., a Veterinary Scientist from JSS KVK, shared information about the subsidies available for sheep, goat, and poultry farming under the National Livestock Mission program. He also detailed the necessary documentation required to avail these subsidies, ensuring that farmers were well-informed and prepared.

The program was skillfully conducted by Kum. Renuka, Marketing Supervising Officer at the National Seed Corporation. Suttur, October 2, 2023: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Suttur hosted a groundbreaking event today, demonstrating innovative approaches to weed management in paddy fields and showcasing the Back and Front Power Rotary procedure for mounding in sugarcane crops. Shri Balakrishna, an Engineer from Shrachi Company, led the demonstration, providing hands-on training to over 30 local farmers.

Shri Shamraj, a Cultivation expert from JSS KVK, expressed his concern about the declining number of traditional weed pickers in paddy cultivation. He highlighted the pressing need for adopting eco-friendly weed management practices due to the detrimental impact of excessive pesticide use on soil health. Shamraj emphasized the importance of the power weeder in promoting sustainable farming.

The demonstration focused on the timely application of the power weeder, stressing its effectiveness within 15 to 20 days after sowing in various paddy cultivation methods. Farmers were also educated about the significance of conserving water by stopping the flow in paddy fields during power weeder operation.

This event is part of ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra’s ongoing efforts to bridge the gap between traditional farming practices and modern agricultural technologies. By empowering local farmers with advanced techniques, the Kendra aims to enhance agricultural productivity, promote environmental sustainability, and improve the livelihoods of farming communities in the region.

ICAR JSS Agricultural Science Centre Empowers Rural Women through Tailoring Training

Suttur, September 28, 2023: In an effort to empower women in rural areas and promote skill-based development, the ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, in collaboration with JSS Jana Shikshana Institute, Mysuru, conducted a three-and-a-half months tailoring training program. The initiative aimed to provide learning opportunities to women who may not have had access to formal education.

A total of 60 women were enrolled in three batches, with two teams based at JSS KVK and one at Jeemaralli. The training culminated in a certificate distribution ceremony, where participants were recognized for their successful completion of the program.

At the ICAR JSS KVK, Suttur, Mr. Ramesh, Director of the Institute of Public Education, inaugurated the certificate distribution program. He emphasized the financial assistance and opportunities that await these trained women, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to their households and communities.

Mrs. Divya, Senior Scientist and Head of JSS KVK, highlighted the numerous employment avenues available for rural women. She stressed that skills such as tailoring not only offer a means to generate supplementary income but also empower women to balance their roles as homemakers and contribute to agriculture.

Panchayat President Mr. Rangaswamy, who inaugurated the certificate distribution program at ICAR JSS Agricultural Science Centre in Jeemaralli, commended the initiative and pledged ongoing support. He encouraged participants to utilize their newfound skills for a better quality of life.
