Smt. Sundaramma Duggahatti Veerbhadrappa Pratishtana Announces Special Prizes for Outstanding Farmers

Suttur, December 20, 2023: In a commendable effort to recognize and encourage the efforts of farmers, the Smt. Sundaramma Duggahatti Veerbhadrappa Pratishtana of Duggahatti Village, in Yalandur Taluk, has declared special cash prizes for exceptional farmers in various crop categories.

To identify and reward the top-performing farmers, one male and one female farmer with the highest yield will be recognized in the following taluks: Nanjangud Taluk (Paddy), Yalandur Taluk (Banana), Kollegal Taluk (Sugarcane), Hanur Taluk (Maize), Chamarajanagara Taluk (Tomato), and Gundlupet Taluk (Beans/Vegetable crops).

The cash prizes will be distributed during the Adijagadguru Shri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Swamiji’s Jatra Mahotsav, scheduled to be held at Suttur from February 6-11, 2024.

Interested farmers are invited to register their names for consideration. Registrations can be done at the ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Suttur or the nearest Raitha Samparka Kendra/Horticulture Department. A nominal registration fee of Rs. 25/- is applicable, and the deadline for registration is January 15, 2024.

Jagadguru Dr. Shri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji’s Punyaradhane and Suttur Jatra Mahotsav Preparations Underway

Suttur, December 20, 203: In a divine ceremony, Rudrabhisheka, Ashtottara, and Praakarotsavas were conducted at the shrines of His Holiness Adijagadguru Shri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Mahaswamiji and His Holiness Jagadguru Dr. Shri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji in Suttur. This sacred event marked the commencement of the 37th Punyaradhane of His Holiness Jagadguru Dr. Shri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, graced by the divine presence of His Holiness Jagadguru Shri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji.

As part of the celebratory preparations, the Bhoomipooja for all the mantaps, dasoha, and the cultural festival venue, where pandals will be set up for the Jatra Mahotsav, scheduled from February 6 to 11, 2024, took place.

A preparatory meeting for the Jatra Mahotsav celebrations followed, attended by the conveners of various committees, leaders from surrounding villages, and villagers. Distinguished pontiffs from various maths and officials from JSS Mahavidyapeetha, along with devotees, participated in the meeting.

Bhoomipooja of the various manaps that are being put up at Suttur, as part of Jatra Mahotsav conducted in commemoration of His Holiness Shri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji’s 37th Punyasmarane, was held on December 17, 2023, in the divine presence of His Holiness Jagadguru Shri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji. Pontiffs of Madahalli, Chikkatuppuru, Madrahalli, Vatalu, Bettadapura, Hosamath, and Chandravana Ashrama are seen in the picure.

Nutri Garden Training Program Empowers Community in Suttur

Suttur, December 15, 2023: Today, the ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Suttur, joined hands with the Jubilant Bharatiya Foundation, Nanjangud, to conduct a Nutri Garden Training program. The event, held in Suttur, witnessed the active participation of key dignitaries and community members.

Chief guest Shri Shivakumar, representing the Women and Child Development Department, Nanjangud, expressed optimism about the program’s potential impact on anganwadi activists. He highlighted the importance of their role in disseminating valuable information within the community.

Shri Chinnaswamy, Head Master of Geekkalli School in Nanjangud Taluk, underlined the significance of the Nutri Garden Training program in educating people about growing vegetables at home to meet daily nutritional needs.

Mr. Deepak, Manager at Jubilant Bharatiya Foundation, provided insights into the foundation’s various agricultural programs, emphasizing their commitment to fostering sustainable practices in collaboration with the JSS KVK.

Smt. Divya, Senior Scientist and Head at ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Suttur, delivered a comprehensive presentation covering kitchen garden setup, soil requirements, vegetable selection, and maintenance practices.

Shri J.G. Rajanna, Program Assistant at ICAR JSS KVK, shared valuable information on soil selection, soil and water testing, and nutrient management for nutri gardens. Dr. G.M. Vinay introduced Microgreens and discussed cultivation techniques, while Dr. Y.P. Prasad, a Crop Conservation subject expert, addressed the management of pests and diseases in nutri gardens using organic and bio-technology.

The training program witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 35 anganwadi activists, Shri Adarsh from Jubilant Foundation, and both teaching and non-teaching staff from Geekkalli School.

The collaborative efforts of ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Jubilant Bharatiya Foundation underscore their commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture, community education, and nutritional self-sufficiency.

ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra Receives Distinguished Visit

Suttur, Karnataka – December 13, 2023: ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) welcomed Dr. J. Adinarayana, Professor and Head (President, AFITA) of IIT Mumbai’s Center of Statistics in Resource Engineering, and his wife, Mrs. Adinarayana, on December 12, 2023.

The distinguished guests toured various demonstration units showcasing JSS KVK’s innovative practices, including integrated agricultural plots, goshala (cow shelter), food production unit, agriclinic, dragon fruit plantation, vermicompost unit, nursery, and kitchen gardens.

Dr. Adinarayana highly commended the integrated agricultural plots, recognizing their potential to empower small farmers towards self-sufficiency. He further lauded the KVK’s commitment to cattle protection and expressed appreciation for the food production unit’s entrepreneurial opportunities. Mrs. Adinarayana, a home science graduate, expressed her delight with the puliyogare and purchased several food items. Both visitors expressed their admiration for the efforts towards preserving traditional earthen pot making.

Dr. Adinarayana highlighted the KVK’s valuable services, including the fodder crops unit ensuring livestock nutrition and health, the silk worm breeding unit, and the agriclinic providing vital advice, guidance, and implements to farmers. He acknowledged the animal husbandry program’s positive impact on women’s empowerment through milk production and collaboration between farmers, the department, and the community.

Senior Scientist and Head Smt. H.V. Divya, along with subject experts Sri Shamraj and Dr. Y.P. Prasad, provided informative guidance to the esteemed visitors.

This visit signifies the crucial role ICAR JSS KVK plays in promoting sustainable agriculture, empowering small farmers, and preserving traditional practices. Dr. and Mrs. Adinarayana’s appreciation is a testament to the KVK’s dedication and invaluable contributions to the community.

Suttur JSS School Student Shri M.S. Yateesh Kumar Selected for National-Level Tabla Competition

Yateesh Kumar, a talented 9th-grade student at JSS High School in Suttur, has been selected to represent his school at the National-level talent hunt competition in New Delhi. This prestigious recognition comes after his outstanding performance in the Tabla competition held online as part of Kalotsava 2023, an event organized by the Education Department to promote and encourage students to participate in extra-curricular activities.

The announcement was made at the Kalotsava program held in Mysuru, where Deputy Director of the Education Department extended heartfelt congratulations to Yateesh Kumar and expressed best wishes for his upcoming endeavor. Successful State-Level Debate Competition Marks Festival of Indian Languages Celebration

Mysuru, December 09, 2023: The JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science, situated on Ooty Road, Mysuru, hosted a dynamic event in collaboration with the Central Institute of Indian Languages and the Shastriya Kannada Atyunnata Adhyayana Kendra as part of the annual Festival of Indian Languages to be held on December 11, 2023. The highlight of the celebration was a state-level debate competition themed around ‘Bharatiya Bhashegalu Halavu – Bhava Ondu’ (Many Indian Languages – One Emotion), specially designed for graduate and postgraduate students.

Participants from diverse colleges across the state showcased their eloquence and passion, with more than 52 students engaging in the lively exchange of ideas. The competition was adjudicated by esteemed judges, Dr. R. Chalapathi, Senior Researcher at the Shastriya Kannada Atyunnata Kendra, and Dr. N.M. Maheshwari, Head of the Kannada Department at JSS College, Mysuru.

The winners of the competition emerged as follows: First Place: R.V. Ananya, JSS College; Second Place: N. Lakshmi, Indira Gandhi Open University, Delhi; Third Place: R. Kusumabai, JSS College. These students will be honored with prizes at the main stage program scheduled for December 11, 2023, at the JSS College.

“Sustainable Farming Takes Center Stage in Haratale: World Soil Day Celebration and Natural Farming Training Inspire Positive Change”

Suttur, December 7, 2023: In commemoration of World Soil Day, the ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra in collaboration with the Agricultural Technicians Institute, Mysuru Chapter, and Coromandel International Limited organized a significant event at Haratale Village in Nanjangud Taluk. The initiative aimed at celebrating World Soil Day and providing valuable training on natural farming practices.

The event featured an address by Shri Sangram Singh, a respected farmer from Haratale Village and retired IGP, who emphasized the paramount importance of preserving soil health and effective water management in agricultural activities. Shri Chikkaranganayaka, a ZP member, further underscored the concept that soil is a living being and stressed the need to refrain from harming soil health through excessive chemical use.

As a resource person, Dr. Rajagopal, a retired professor from GKVK, Bengaluru, delivered insightful remarks comparing soil to the eyes of farmers. He highlighted the indispensable role of soil in sustaining life on Earth and urged collective responsibility in safeguarding soil health. Dr. Rajagopal advocated for the conservation of beneficial organisms such as earthworms, honey bees, termites, and mitra keeta, emphasizing the importance of natural farming, organic farming, and integrated farming methods.

In his address, Dr. Rajagopal shared, “Farmers should adopt natural farming practices, organic farming, and integrated farming methods, as these not only reduce expenses but also lead to better yields and the preservation of soil health.”

Shri Mryutyunjaya, representing Coromandel International Company, provided valuable insights into maintaining soil health, nutrient management, and the use of nano fertilizers. The significance of soil health tests was also emphasized during the program.

Soil Health Certificates were distributed to participating farmers by JSS KVK in recognition of their commitment to maintaining and enhancing soil health. Smt. Divya H.V., Head JSS KVK, conveyed her wishes to all farmers on World Soil Day, expressing concern over the declining emphasis on soil health in recent times. She urged farmers to prioritize organic manure usage, as it contributes to the increase of organic carbon content in the soil, thereby protecting soil health and fertility.

The program saw the presence of Shri J.G. Rajanna, who extended a warm welcome, and Dr. G.M. Vinay, who delivered a vote of thanks. Shri Manu, President of Haratale Gram Panchayat, along with Gram Panchayat members, and more than 50 farmers, and staff members of ICAR JSS KVK actively participated in the event.

Kannada Rajyotsava and Children’s Day Celebrations Illuminate Suttur

Kannada Rajyotsava and Children’s Day celebrations were held at the JSS Educational Institution in Suttur. Shri C. Naganna, guest lecturer, University of Mysore, Prof. R. Moogeshappa, Director, College Education Division, JSS MVP and heads of various JSS institutions in Suttur were present.

Suttur, November 18, 2023: The JSS Educational Institution in Suttur witnessed a joyous amalgamation of culture, education, and celebrations during the joint observance of Children’s Day and Kannada Rajyotsava.

Chief guest Dr. C. Naganna, Senior Litterateur, guest lecturer at the University of Mysore, and Karnataka Rajyotsava award winner, commenced the event by expressing appreciation for the rich art, literature, and culture of Karnataka. Drawing inspiration from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Dr. C. Naganna highlighted Karnataka’s ancient history and traditions, emphasizing the state’s reputation for peace-loving citizens and a knowledge-driven society. He eloquently shared insights into the unification of Karnataka, the establishment of Kannada Sahitya Parishath, and the division of regions based on language, underscoring their historical significance. Dr. Naganna also praised the Suttur Math and JSS Mahavidyapeetha for their ‘Trividha Dasoha’ initiative (knowledge, food, and healthcare), lauding their contribution to the holistic development of students.

Another chief guest, Prof. R. Moogeshappa, Director of the College Education Division at JSS Mahavidyapeetha, commended the strength and potential of today’s children. He emphasized that with proper guidance, they would undoubtedly become exemplary citizens. Prof. Moogeshappa acknowledged the role of JSS Mahavidyapeetha and Suttur Srimath in supporting children who face limited facilities. He took pride in the achievements of students from JSS schools and colleges in various state-level and national-level competitions in yoga, music, mallkambh, and sports.

Presiding over the event, Shri G.L. Tripurantaka, Coordinating Officer of JSS Educational Institution, called for the promotion and protection of the Kannada language. He urged students to embrace Kannada as their language of love and heart, emphasizing the duty of Kannadigas to safeguard and develop the language. Shri Tripurantaka applauded the students’ active participation in extra-curricular activities and expressed gratitude to JSS MVP for providing educational opportunities to children from states such as Meghalaya, Manipur, Jharkhand, and Bihar.

The ceremony included the distribution of prizes to students who excelled in various sports and competitions organized in honor of Children’s Day.
