Integrated pest and disease management in vegetable crops

S. Satish, Scientist, Plant Conservation Division, ICAR JSS Krishi Vignan Kendra, visited the agricultural fields of farmers in Hulimavu and Aayarahalli villages in Nanjangud Taluk and provided information about integrated pest and disease management in various vegetable crops including ridge gourd, beans, pumpkin, brinjal, etc., through demonstration. Students of Suresh Jnanvihar Agricultural University of Rajasthan were also present during the demonstration.

Dr. N. Anandgowda Highlights the Significance of the Indian Constitution on Constitution Day

November 26, 2019: JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru, commemorated Constitution Day on November 26, 2019, with a special program. As part of the event, Dr. N. Anandgowda, a Professor from the Political Science Department at Karnataka State Open University, Mysuru, delivered an enlightening speech on the formation, composition, and significance of the Indian Constitution. He also discussed the dedicated efforts of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and other leaders involved in framing the Constitution. Additionally, Dr. Anandgowda shed light on the amendments made to the Constitution over time, basic rights, and various significant aspects related to its evolution.

Dr. Anandgowda emphasized that the Indian Constitution is hailed as the greatest the world has ever seen. He mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi recognized the need for citizens to adopt the constitution, leading to the introduction of “Constitution Day” in 2015. Dr. Anandgowda stressed the importance of understanding our basic rights, stating, “Without proper information, it becomes difficult to comprehend the essence of our fundamental rights.”

In his presidential address, Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, the CEO of the College, read the introduction of the constitution and provided a comprehensive explanation to the students.

Prof. M. Mahadevappa, the Principal, welcomed the distinguished guests and attendees. Smt. R.G. Asha, Head of the Political Science Department, was also present during the event. Kum. Srikrupa initiated the program with an invocation, and Student Venkatesh expressed gratitude in a vote of thanks. Kum. Pooja C.R., an MA English student, expertly compered the event.

Overall prize in Taluk-level Talent Hunt Competitions

The students of the JSS High School, Suttur, took part in the Taluk-level Talent Hunt competition held at the Citizen School in Nanjangud and won overall prize and won first place in Urdu Speech and Mimicry competitions and got selected for the District-level competition. Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah Emphasizes the Importance of Respecting Elders as Indian Culture

Mysuru, November 21, 2019: Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, CEO of JSS College, Mysuru, highlighted the significance of respecting elders as an integral part of Indian culture. He expressed concerns about the widening social and mental gap between generations due to the increasing number of elderly individuals in the country. Prof. Sambashivaiah urged youngsters not to neglect their elders, emphasizing the importance of maintaining inter-generational bonding.

Prof. Sambashivaiah presided over the “Sensitization Programme on Inter-generational Bonding” organized by the PG Social Works Department of JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science. The event was held in collaboration with the National Social Security Department of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, and the Nightingale Trust, Bengaluru.

The program commenced with an introductory speech by Sri Praveen from the Nightingale Trust. Prof. M. Mahadevappa, Principal of JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science, Prof. S. Somashekar, Principal of JSS PU College, Dr. M.P. Somashekar, Head of the Social Works Department, and Sri S. Basavaraju, Coordinator of Senior Citizens Helpline at JSS Hospital, were present during the event.

During the sessions, Dr. M.P. Somashekar discussed the important aspects of the “Maintenance and Welfare of Senior Citizens (MWPSC) Act, 2007.” Dr. Kumudini Achi addressed the problems arising from the inter-generational gap, while Dr. Sushmita focused on inter-generational communication. Sri N. Basavaraju explained strategies for resolving the issues faced by senior citizens.

Sri S. Basavaraju extended a warm welcome to the attendees, Dr. M.P. Somashekar delivered the vote of thanks, and Dr. Kumudini Achi served as the program’s compere. The event witnessed the active participation of more than 150 students from the PG Social Works Department and PUC.

JSS College bags first prize in Swachch Bharath Summer Internship Programme

Mysuru, November 8, 2019: The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Govt. of India, in association with the Human Development Ministry, initiated the ‘Swachch Bharath Summer Internship Programme’, under the Swachch Bharath Yojana, in the year 2018. Accordingly, the UGC has included one optional subject with two credits in the higher education syllabus. As per instructions, 10 students from one village should be selected and measures shall be initiated based on the functions of those students. Accordingly, the JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, B.N. Road, Mysuru, selected the Basvanapura village in Hunasuru Taluk and conducted the programme for which the Ministry has given the first rank at the District-level.

Under this programme the NSS Unit of the College conducted an economic and social survey in Basavanahalli village from dt: 15.07.2019 to 25.07.2019. Awareness was created among the villagers through cleanliness jatha, organizing cleanliness mela, dance and songs on cleanliness, wall writing and showing short films on importance of cleanliness. Other programmes like seeking the cooperation for the construction of toilets, free health check-up camp, planting of saplings on the roadside, management of garbage, maintenance of cleanliness on the streets in the village, cleaning of Lakshmanatheertha river, cleaning drainages, protecting monuments, etc., were also held. Efforts were made to create awareness among the villagers not to use plastic, and environmental-friendly bags were distributed by visiting door-to-door. It was a 50-hour planned programme, with the participation of Sri N. Santhoshkumar, Programme Officer, and 10 volunteers.

Prizes have been announced for three units that have conducted this camp successfully as per the directions and guidelines of the Govt. of India, and the JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, B.N. Road, Mysuru has received first prize. Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, CEO, College Complex and Prof. M. Mahadevappa, Principal have appreciated the Programme Officer and the students for this feat.
