Prof. M. Krishnegowda Inaugurates UG Cultural and Sports Forum, Emphasizes the Importance of Culturally Sound Mind and Athletic Body

Mysuru, June 16, 2022: Prof. M. Krishnegowda, Principal (Retd.) of St. Philomena’s College, Mysuru, highlighted the significance of a culturally sound mind and an athletic body in molding individuals. He made these observations during the inauguration of the UG Cultural and Sports Forum on June 15, 2022, at JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science, located on Ooty Road, Mysuru.

Expressing his views, Prof. M. Krishnegowda stated, “The true essence of education lies beyond the confines of the curriculum. Nowadays, education seems to be limited to intellectual pursuits, but it is crucial to possess practical skills for success in life. With determination, you can become exceptional.”

Referring to Matthew Arnold’s words, he urged the students to adopt the motto of “Pursuit of Perfection” and hone their skills to achieve excellence. Prof. M. Krishnegowda advised the students to surround themselves with intelligent and culturally active friends. He emphasized that sports play a vital role in keeping both the mind and body active, encouraging the students to train their minds to fulfill their aspirations.

Presiding over the event, Prof. R. Mugeshappa, Director of College Education, JSS MVP, Mysuru, emphasized the value of having goals and teachers in life. He encouraged students to be dreamers and to acquire the necessary skills to realize their aspirations. Prof. Mugeshappa advised the students to choose their areas of interest rather than blindly following others.

Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the College, addressed the students and emphasized that skills hold more value than mere grades in today’s competitive world. He highlighted the inclusion of activities such as yoga, scouts & guides, and sports in the curriculum as introduced by the National Education Policy. Prof. Sambashivaiah stressed the positive impact of sports on developing confidence, team spirit, discipline, and overall good health. To exemplify the importance of hard work and determination, he cited successful individuals like Rajnikanth, Dhirubhai Ambani, Akshay Kumar, Sachin Tendulkar, and Albert Einstein.

The event commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Nirmitha, a student of III BSc, who introduced the guests. Mr. Punith of III BCom delivered a vote of thanks, and an invocation was rendered by Ms. Sushmitha and Dumbishree, students of 1st B.Voc. Ms. Madhura S. Patil, a student of III BSc, skillfully managed the program.

Dr. C. Sharathkumar Highlights the Importance of Environmental Protection: “We Have Only One Earth, Protect It”

Mysuru, June 7, 2022: Dr. C. Sharathkumar, a member of the Mysuru Chapter of the Family Planning Association of India (FPAI), delivered a compelling lecture on the occasion of World Environment Day celebrations at JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science, located on Ooty Road, Mysuru. The program was organized in collaboration with the FPAI, focusing on the theme of “Only One Earth” for World Environment Day 2022.

Dr. C. Sharathkumar emphasized the significance of understanding the value of our planet and the urgent need to protect it. He highlighted the interconnectedness between the environment and human well-being, stating, “If we protect the environment, it protects us.” His lecture shed light on the importance of environmental conservation, the purpose behind observing World Environment Day, and the detrimental effects of pollution.

Prof. S.N. Hegde, the Honorary President of FPAI, emphasized that environmental conservation should start at home. He urged individuals to consider the earth and the environment as their own, stating that when this mindset prevails, environmental preservation becomes a natural outcome. Prof. Hegde encouraged the audience to make conscious efforts to reduce pollution, plant saplings, and contribute to saving the environment.

The program was inaugurated with the symbolic planting of saplings in the college premises by Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the College, Principal Prof. M.P. Vijayendra Kumar, FPAI Honorary President Prof. S.N. Hegde, and member Dr. C. Sharathkumar. Dr. M.P. Somashekar, the Head of the Department of PG Social Works, graced the occasion.

The event commenced with an invocation by Kum. Sannidhi, followed by a warm welcome by Prof. Dr. B. Susmita. Kum. Aishwarya skillfully managed the program, while Smt. Bijimol, the FPAI program convener, delivered a vote of thanks.

ICAR JSS Krishi Vignan Kendra and Rotary Mysuru Celebrate World Environment Day

Suttur, June 6, 2022:  The ICAR JSS Krishi Vignan Kendra, Suttur, in collaboration with Rotary Mysuru, organized a program to commemorate World Environment Day.

The event witnessed the presence of esteemed individuals including Smt. Divya, In-charge Head and Senior Scientist of JSS KVK, Senior Scientist Manjunath Angadi, and scientists Dr. Vinay G.M., Gangappa Hipparagi, Rajanna, Shamraj, Netravati, Dr. Raskhit, Sundarraju, along with the staff members. Srinidhimurthy from Rotary Mysuru, accompanied by other staff members, also graced the occasion.

As part of the program, saplings of various fruit varieties were planted, contributing to the environmental cause. Furthermore, 500 horticultural and fruit plants were distributed to farmers free of cost, aiming to raise awareness about environmental conservation.

During the event, Smt. Divya provided insights into the diverse programs initiated by JSS KVK for environmental protection. Gangappa Hipparagi highlighted the significance of environmental conservation, while Srinidmurthy from Rotary Mysuru elaborated on the various programs undertaken for environment preservation.

The program concluded with heartfelt appreciation from the participating farmers, acknowledging the valuable efforts of JSS KVK in implementing impactful programs for the benefit of the environment.

World Environment Day at JSS Residential School, Suttur

The JSS Residential School, Suttur, had organized a program on the occasion of ‘World Environment Day.’ Parents of the students studying in the school planted saplings as part of the program. JSS Residential School, Suttur, Conducts Preparatory Mass Yoga Session on World Yoga Day

Suttur Srikshetra: In commemoration of World Yoga Day, the JSS Residential School in Suttur organized a preparatory mass yoga practice session, attended by hundreds of students. The students actively participated in the yoga session, showcasing their enthusiasm for this ancient practice that promotes physical and mental well-being. The preparatory session aimed to familiarize the students with different yoga asanas and cultivate a deeper understanding of the significance of yoga in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
