More than 4,000 students took part in the 11th International Yoga Day program held at the JSS Free Residential School at Suttur. The Yoga day was organized by the JSS AHER and JSS Free Residential School, Suttur.
Suttur, June 21, 2025: “Yoga is a medicine for many diseases,” remarked Dr. H. Basavanagowdappa, Vice-Chancellor, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER), while addressing the gathering as the chief guest at the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations held at Sri Sutturkshetra.
The event was jointly organized by JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research and JSS Free Residential School, Suttur. Dr. Basavanagowdappa emphasized that yoga, which promotes well-being of the body, mind, and soul, has gained global recognition. He stated, “It is possible to move towards fulfilment through diligence, discipline, meditation, and the path of samadhi.”
Dr. Vishal Kumar Gupta, Dean – Academics, JSS AHER, stressed the importance of practicing yoga daily and not restricting it to a single day of observance. “Yoga helps us overcome both mental and physical stress, boosts immunity, and enhances overall health,” he noted. He added that India rightfully takes pride in gifting yoga to the world. This year’s International Yoga Day was celebrated under the theme ‘Yoga for One World, One Health’.
Sri G.L. Tripurantaka, Coordinating Officer, JSS Institutions, Suttur, highlighted that material possessions such as cars and bungalows can be bought with money, but health cannot. “Once known to the world as a land of snake charmers, India has now become a global torchbearer of wellness through yoga,” he said. He encouraged the youth, who are often drawn to gyms, to give priority to yoga as it plays a significant role in disease prevention and maintaining overall health, thus contributing to increased life expectancy.
The program was sponsored by the Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN) under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. Heads of various departments of JSS Institutions, teaching and non-teaching staff, and thousands of students participated enthusiastically in the program.
Dr. Akshata welcomed the gathering and conducted the proceedings, while Dr. M.U. Sujan delivered the vote of thanks.
