Suttur, June 23, 2021: As part of the platinum jubilee celebrations (India @ 75) of Indian Independence, the ICAR JSS Krishi Vignan Kendra (JSS KVK) in Suttur organized a highly informative program on “Balanced Usage of Fertilizers” for the benefit of farmers. The event took place on May 18, 2021.
Under the esteemed guidance of Sri J.G. Rajanna, Program Assistant (Soil Science) at JSS KVK, the participants were provided with crucial insights into the importance of conducting soil tests and understanding soil essence and salinity levels. Sri Rajanna emphasized the significance of managing essential nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, secondary nutrients, and primary nutrients based on soil test results. During the program, he also demonstrated the correct techniques for extracting soil samples in the agricultural field while highlighting the necessary precautions to be taken.
Farmers gained valuable knowledge on selecting suitable fertilizers and the appropriate timing for their application to different crops, all based on the results of soil tests. They were also enlightened about the major and primary nutrients present in fertilizers. Furthermore, the laboratory methods for soil testing and the identification of poor quality fertilizers were thoroughly explained. Sri Shamraj, a distinguished Scientist specializing in Cultivation Science, shared his expertise on the preparation of vermicompost and emphasized the importance of biofertilizers in sustainable farming practices.
The program witnessed active participation from Sri A.S. Guruswamy, ZP Member from Mysuru, along with 42 enthusiastic farmers. Smt. Divya H.V., Senior Scientist and In-charge of JSS KVK, Smt. Netravati Yettinamani, Home Scientist, Sri Vinay G.M., Horticultural Scientist, Sri Sundar Raj K.V., Office Superintendent, and Kum. Shilpa, Program Technical Assistant were present.
