Second prize in inter-college chess competition

Mysuru, October 23, 2019: The students of the JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru, have secured second prize in the Mysore University Chamundi Zone Inter-college and Mysuru City Inter-college Chess Competition. Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, CEO, Prof. M. Mahadevappa, Principal, Sri M. Karthik, Physical Education Director, teaching, non-teaching staff and students have congratulated the winners.

ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra Raises Awareness on Proper Fertilizer Usage for Farmers

Suttur, October 22, 2019: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra organized a highly informative awareness programme on fertilizer usage for farmers in Suttur.

Renowned agricultural expert, Dr. K.V. Keshavaiah, Professor at V.C. Farm Division Research Centre, Mandya, delivered a compelling address to the farmers present. He emphasized the importance of ensuring complete integration of fertilizers with the soil. Dr. Keshavaiah advised farmers to maintain a minimum distance of 4 inches from the root while applying fertilizers. Furthermore, he provided valuable insights into various types of fertilizers available in the market.

The event also featured presentations from distinguished guests. Dr. T. Bhagyalakshmi, Assistant Professor at Mandya Agriculture University, shed light on the latest advancements in fertilizer technology. Sri B.S. Deepak, Assistant Director at Agriculture Department, Nanjangud, shared valuable knowledge about soil testing, including the appropriate methods for obtaining soil samples and obtaining soil health certificates. Dr. Niranjan from the R&D Division of Mangalore Fertilizers, Hassan, provided comprehensive information on integrated nutrition management for crops.

Presiding over the programme was Dr. D.S. Somashekar, Deputy Director at Agriculture Department, Mysuru. He expressed his belief that farmers have reached a point where they consider fertilizers indispensable for crop growth. Dr. Somashekar urged farmers to explore the use of organic manure, bio-fertilizers, green manure, and compost based on the results of soil testing, promoting sustainable agriculture practices.

Sri K.R. Ravindra, Deputy Director of the ATMA programme at the Agriculture Department, extended a warm welcome to all participants. Dr. Arun Balamatti, Head of JSS KVK, skillfully compered the event, and Sri J.G. Rajanna delivered the vote of thanks.

Training Program on Nutrient Management and Integrated Disease & Pest Management Empowers Farmers

Suttur, October 21, 2019: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, in collaboration with the Horticulture Department and Hullahalli FPO, successfully organized a comprehensive one-day training program focused on nutrient management, integrated disease, and pest management, and micronutrient utilization on October 17, 2019.

Farmers cultivating watermelon and tomato crops in the region were facing significant challenges due to inadequate knowledge of nutrition management, pest, and disease control, resulting in reduced yields and financial losses. Recognizing the need to address these issues, the ICAR JSS KVK and the FPO, Hullahalli, joined forces to conduct the training program under the Integrated Horticulture Development Programme.

Esteemed speaker Dr. Arasu Mallaiah, a retired professor, delivered valuable insights on organic farming and integrated pest and disease management, specifically tailored for watermelon and tomato crop cultivators. Dr. Shamraj, a scientist at KVK, elucidated cultivation methods and integrated nutrient management practices for horticultural crops. Sri Shivakumar, Horticulture Officer, highlighted the various facilities offered by the Horticulture Department and provided guidance on innovative technologies, chemical fertilizer usage, and effective crop and disease-pest management strategies.

Smt. H.V. Divya, Seed Technology Scientist at JSS KVK, shared her expertise on bio-pesticides, farm netting, organic farming techniques, Beejamrutha, and Agniasthra. She encouraged farmers to seek further information and purchase the necessary tools from the JSS Agri Clinic in Suttur and Mysuru.

The training program witnessed the active participation of 52 farmers from neighboring villages such as Shiramalli, Heggadahalli, Deveerammanahalli, Haratale, Rampura, and Huskuru.

Dignitaries present at the event included Sri Puttabasappa, Director of FPO, Hullahalli, and Sri Lokesh. Sri V.N. Murthy, CEO of FPO, expressed gratitude in his vote of thanks, while Smt. Divya skillfully compered the proceedings.

Following the training program, the scientists accompanied the participants to various fields, including a tomato field owned by farmer Sri Mahadevappa in Mobballi village, as well as banana and watermelon farms belonging to Sri Lokesh in Haratale and Sri Marinanjaiah, respectively. In these field visits, information on integrated disease and pest management was shared, further enhancing the participants’ practical understanding.

JSS College Launches ‘Unnatha Bharath Abhiyan’ and ‘Swachchatha Hi Seva’ Programmes in Moodahalli

Mysuru, October 2, 2019: The JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science, located on Ooty Road, Mysuru, organized the sponsored programmes ‘Unnatha Bharath Abhiyan’ and ‘Swachchatha Hi Seva’ by the Ministry of Human Resources. The event commenced with Prof. B. V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the College, symbolically watering a plant to inaugurate the programs.

Addressing the villagers and students, Prof. Sambashivaiah shed light on the gradual integration of plastic usage into our lives and its detrimental effects. He emphasized that plastic usage not only causes various diseases among humans but also poses a severe threat to the environment. He urged everyone to replace plastic with cloth materials to safeguard health and the environment, considering it a pressing need. Prof. D.S. Sadashivamurthy, Principal (Incharge), Sri Shivakumar, GP Officer, Sri Nandeesh Kumar, GP President, Sri Nanjundaswamy, leader of Alathuru village, Smt. Prema, Head Mistress of the school, and other dignitaries encouraged active participation in the programs, aiming for their successful implementation.

College volunteers took to the village’s main thoroughfares in a jatha (procession) as part of the initiative, staging street plays to raise awareness about the adverse effects of plastic usage. Plastic covers and bags were collected from the villagers, and cloth bags were distributed as an alternative. These impactful programs were also conducted in Alatthuru, Madaiahanahundi, Handinaarumole, and Mallarajaianahundi villages.

The event began with a soulful invocation by Kum. Jayashri, a second-year BBA student. Kum. T.B. Niranjan, a third-year BA student, warmly welcomed the attendees, while Dr. Kumudini Achchi expressed gratitude in her vote of thanks. The proceedings were efficiently compered by Kum. Deepika, a second-year B.Sc. student.

Sri N. Santhoshkumar, NCC Officer, teaching staff from the school, village leaders, and residents from five villages actively participated in the programs.
