JSS College Launches ‘Unnatha Bharath Abhiyan’ and ‘Swachchatha Hi Seva’ Programmes in Moodahalli

Mysuru, October 2, 2019: The JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science, located on Ooty Road, Mysuru, organized the sponsored programmes ‘Unnatha Bharath Abhiyan’ and ‘Swachchatha Hi Seva’ by the Ministry of Human Resources. The event commenced with Prof. B. V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the College, symbolically watering a plant to inaugurate the programs.

Addressing the villagers and students, Prof. Sambashivaiah shed light on the gradual integration of plastic usage into our lives and its detrimental effects. He emphasized that plastic usage not only causes various diseases among humans but also poses a severe threat to the environment. He urged everyone to replace plastic with cloth materials to safeguard health and the environment, considering it a pressing need. Prof. D.S. Sadashivamurthy, Principal (Incharge), Sri Shivakumar, GP Officer, Sri Nandeesh Kumar, GP President, Sri Nanjundaswamy, leader of Alathuru village, Smt. Prema, Head Mistress of the school, and other dignitaries encouraged active participation in the programs, aiming for their successful implementation.

College volunteers took to the village’s main thoroughfares in a jatha (procession) as part of the initiative, staging street plays to raise awareness about the adverse effects of plastic usage. Plastic covers and bags were collected from the villagers, and cloth bags were distributed as an alternative. These impactful programs were also conducted in Alatthuru, Madaiahanahundi, Handinaarumole, and Mallarajaianahundi villages.

The event began with a soulful invocation by Kum. Jayashri, a second-year BBA student. Kum. T.B. Niranjan, a third-year BA student, warmly welcomed the attendees, while Dr. Kumudini Achchi expressed gratitude in her vote of thanks. The proceedings were efficiently compered by Kum. Deepika, a second-year B.Sc. student.

Sri N. Santhoshkumar, NCC Officer, teaching staff from the school, village leaders, and residents from five villages actively participated in the programs.
