Lack of Proper Organizing and Leadership: Root Causes of Farmers’ Problems – Sri Amshi Prasannakumar

Mysuru, April 30, 2019: Sri Amshi Prasannakumar, Assistant Editor of Kannadaprabha Newspaper, highlighted the absence of farmer movements and the critical need for proper organizing and effective leadership as the primary reasons behind the challenges faced by farmers today.

Speaking as the Chief Guest at the “Annadaatara Atmakathe” seminar, a student-focused event organized by the Kannada PG Department of JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science in Mysuru, Sri Amshi Prasannakumar emphasized the significance of organizing farmers and providing strong leadership. He expressed, “Farmers need to work diligently, as their lives cannot prosper solely through the allure of city living. It is essential for farmers to effectively utilize government schemes and programs and engage in scientific, organic, and natural farming methods alongside traditional practices. Unfortunately, incidents of farmer suicides have seen an alarming rise. Therefore, concerted efforts must be made to encourage and motivate farmers and improve their lives. The role of media is crucial in this regard. As a journalist, I am deeply concerned about farmers, which is why I have written the book titled ‘Annadaatara Atmakathe.’ Farmers must succeed; they must thrive. Soldiers and farmers are the backbone of our nation, and they should not endure suffering. This is the essence of my book.”

The program was inaugurated by Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, who presided over the event. In his address, Prof. Sambashivaiah acknowledged the prevailing farmer issues, frequent reports of farmer suicides, and the burden of debt faced by farmers due to inadequate rainfall. He urged the government, NGOs, intellectuals, and society as a whole to address these issues urgently. He commended Sri Amshi Prasannakumar’s book for its concern for farmers, stating, “The book ‘Annadaatara Atmakathe’ portrays the triumph of farmers and exhibits deep empathy for their struggles. Efforts should be made to disseminate its message among farmers. Educated individuals and literature enthusiasts should read and discuss this book.”

During the seminar, students Kum. R.S. Ranjita and Sri V. Kiran presented essays on the book. The event witnessed the presence of Prof. M. Mahadevappa, Principal of the college, and Dr. B.S. Sudeep, HoD of the Kannada PG Department. The program began with an invocation by Kum. Jyothi N. Bhat, and Sri Madegowda delivered the vote of thanks. Kum. Awareness of Democratic System Crucial for Students – H. Vishwanath

Suttur, April 30, 2019: Former Minister and MLA, Sri Adaguru H. Vishwanath, emphasized the importance of imparting knowledge about the democratic system to students during his inaugural address at the Alumni and Parents Meet held at JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science, BN Road, Mysuru, on April 28, 2019.

Reflecting on his own student days at the college, Sri H. Vishwanath remarked, “During my time at this college, we had just 100 students. Today, we have over 3100 students pursuing their degrees and postgraduate studies here. I take great pride in mentioning that our college has achieved ‘Autonomous’ status and an ‘A’ grade from NAAC, along with several other accolades. From the very beginning, this college has emphasized culture, literature, arts, sports, and extracurricular activities alongside regular classes, fostering strong leadership qualities among students. I am a living example of this. During my B.Sc. studies, I actively participated in cultural and literary activities. Our college consistently secured top prizes in competitions. The student association elections taught me about our democratic system and administration. It was during my student days that I developed leadership qualities, which eventually helped me succeed in the political sphere and serve society. It enabled me to become a Minister. However, today, many students are unaware of the democratic framework in which our country operates. Hence, there is an urgent need to raise awareness among students about our democratic system.”

During the event, Prof. B.V. Sambashiavaiah, Chief Executive of the college, provided an overview of the college’s progress. Alumni and parents shared their experiences and opinions, fostering an enriching discussion.

The program commenced with a warm welcome by Prof. M. Mahadevappa, Principal, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. N. Rajendra Prasad, Assistant Professor. Kum. Vidyashri offered an invocation, setting a solemn tone for the gathering. Prof. D.S. Sadashivamurthy expertly facilitated the event.
