More than 4,000 students of the JSS Residential School, Suttur, took part in the 10th International Day of Yoga program held at the JSS Residential School, in Suttur. The program was organized jointly by the JSS Residential School, Suttur, in association with the JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research.

Suttur, June 21, 2024 — The students of JSS Residential School, Suttur, observed the International Day of Yoga in a meaningful and impactful way.

In collaboration with the JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, the school organized the 10th International Day of Yoga on June 21. Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, Executive Secretary of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, addressed the gathering as the chief guest. Dr. Betsurmath highlighted that India deserves the credit for introducing yoga to the world. He emphasized this year’s theme, “Yoga for Self & Society,” noting, “In the face of rising corruption, crime, and fraud, peace of mind is essential for achieving world peace. Yoga not only enhances international relations but also fosters harmony and peace. It helps develop courage, memory, and immunity in individuals. Daily yoga practice is crucial for better physical and mental health.”

Sri G.L. Tripurantaka, Coordinating Officer of JSS Institutions, expressed concern about the growing fascination among Indian youth with foreign countries and cultures. He remarked, “More youth are now turning to gyms for physical fitness, neglecting our ancient practice of yoga, which maintains physical fitness and mental control. Yoga keeps us enthusiastic and cheerful throughout the day and can prevent many diseases. Therefore, it is vital for everyone to practice yoga daily to enhance their lives.”

The event was graced by notable dignitaries, including Dr. B. Manjunath, Registrar of JSS AHER, Dr. Vishal Kumar Gupta, Dean of Academics, Sri S.R. Satish Chandra, Administrative Officer of JSS Medical College, Dr. M.U. Sujan, Coordinating Officer of the Yoga Division, along with heads of various departments of JSS Institutions. Over 4,000 students from JSS Residential School, Suttur, participated in the program, marking a significant celebration of the International Day of Yoga.

Suttur, June 28, 2024: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Suttur organized a one-day training program on ‘Scientific Cultivation Methods in Ginger Crop.’ The event aimed to educate farmers on modern and efficient farming techniques to enhance ginger crop yield and soil health.

Presiding over the program, Sri Shivashankarappa, Director of the Horticulture Department, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, emphasized the importance of using fertilizers judiciously to maintain soil health and achieve better crop yields. He dispelled the misconception that ginger cultivation depletes soil health, advocating for regular soil tests and integrated management practices.

Dr. B.A. Jnanesh, Senior Scientist and Head of ICAR JSS KVK, encouraged farmers to adopt mixed crop cultivation and integrated agricultural methods to reduce dependency on a single crop. He highlighted the benefits of scientific farming techniques in reducing overall farming expenses.

Sri Satish, Assistant Horticulture Officer from Nanjangud, informed attendees about various facilities available for farmers engaged in horticultural crop cultivation. Sri Rajanna J.P. urged farmers to gather comprehensive information to improve their farming practices.

Dr. Vinay, a Horticulture Scientist at JSS KVK, delivered an insightful session on integrated cultivation methods for ginger. He covered topics such as the uses and varieties of ginger, land preparation, green manure, fertilizer application, seed treatment, pit preparation, integrated water management, and organic farming. Dr. Vinay also provided guidance on preparing soil before and after cultivation and measures to take during adverse weather conditions.

Soil expert Rajanna detailed the significance of soil in ginger cultivation, the importance of soil testing, integrated nutrient management, and the use of ‘Shunti Samruddhi’ introduced by IISR. Dr. Prasad Y.P., a Plant Conservation Scientist at JSS KVK, discussed various diseases affecting ginger crops and the characteristics of pests and insects, along with their integrated management strategies.

The event was attended by Smt. H.V. Divya, Shamraj, Rakshit Raj, and Gangappa Hipparati from JSS KVK. More than 70 farmers from Mysuru, Chamarajanagara, Hassan, and Kodagu Districts participated and benefited from the training program.

Suttur, June 27, 2024: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Suttur, in collaboration with the National Seed Corporation, successfully organized a training program on June 26, 2024, for progressive farmers and women farmers. The program covered various crucial topics including fodder crops, E-Nam, Atal Bhujal Yojana, new crops, and seed production under the National Livestock Yojana.

Dr. Jnanesh B.N., Head and Senior Scientist at ICAR JSS KVK, inaugurated the event. In his address, he emphasized the importance of farmers leading by example, citing the success stories of apiculturist Jayashankar from Yadiyala and progressive farmers from Haratale.

Sri Subbireddy, Manager at the National Seed Corporation, provided insights into the corporation’s functions and introduced new crop varieties. Smt. Nischita, District Incharge Officer for the Atal Bhujal Yojana, spoke on water conservation, while E-Nam Aap officer Mahesh K.G. elaborated on the workings of the National Agriculture Market (E-Nam).

Dr. U.M. Rakshithraj, Subject Expert in Animal Husbandry at JSS KVK, discussed fodder crops and the subsidies available for farmers under the National Livestock Yojana. Smt. H.V. Divya, Subject Expert in the Seed Technology Division at JSS KVK, provided valuable information on the production and conservation of pulse seeds.

Approximately 70 farmers from surrounding villages participated in the training program, exchanging information and experiences. Progressive farmers Guruswamy and Nagendraswamy from Nagarle, and Prabhuswamy from Kalmalli, along with JSS KVK subject experts Dr. Prasad, Dr. Vinay, Sri Shamraj, Dr. Deepak, and Block Manager Gangappa Hipparagi, were present at the event.

The program was adeptly managed by Kum. Kavyashri, Market Incharge Officer at the National Seed Corporation.

Suttur, June 24, 2024: The valedictory program of the six-day Third Module Training on integrated cattle management was successfully concluded at the JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Suttur. The event was jointly organized by ICAR JSS KVK, Suttur, in collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences, Mysuru, and Sanjeevini – KSRLPS.

Dr. Nagaraju, Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences, Mysuru, presided over the program. In his address, Dr. Nagaraju highlighted the commendable efforts of the Pashu Sakhis in enhancing the state’s daily milk production to 1 lakh litres. He attributed this success to timely drought precautionary measures and the distribution of crop seeds, which have resulted in an abundant fodder supply and increased milk production. Dr. Nagaraju praised the enthusiasm of Pashu Sakhis in distributing crop seeds and vaccinating cattle, which has significantly contributed to this year’s good milk yield. He encouraged the Pashu Sakhis to leverage the training provided at JSS KVK and disseminate the knowledge to other farmers.

Dr. Jnanesh B.N., Senior Scientist and Head of JSS KVK, Suttur, emphasized the role of programs like Pashu Sakhi in women empowerment. He stressed the importance of equipping Pashu Sakhis with the necessary skills to produce high-quality milk, which would not only earn them recognition but also substantially benefit farmers across the district.

Dr. Divya H.V., a Subject Expert, expressed her belief that such programs enable women to achieve social and financial independence. She urged the women farmers to continue their diligent work with the Department and extend their support to more farmers in the future.

The event saw participation from Dr. Mallikarjunswamy, Dr. Sharanabasava (Training Coordinator), Dr. Rakshiraj (Subject Expert, KVK), and more than 60 Pashu Sakhis. Their collective efforts and dedication were lauded, marking the program as a significant step towards sustainable agricultural development and women empowerment.

Suttur, June 20, 2024: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Suttur, successfully organized a live telecast of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana’s 17th installment subsidy release, held at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The event saw a notable attendance of around 80 participants, including Senior Scientists, Heads of various departments of JSS KVK, staff members, Agriculture Department officials, Veterinary Department officials, progressive farmers, women farmers, and trainees from the ‘Pashu Sakhi’ program.

Dr. B.N. Jnanesh, Senior Scientist and Head of ICAR JSS KVK, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of the Krishi Samman Nidhi Yojana. He urged farmers who have not yet availed of the scheme’s benefits to register on the concerned portal and take advantage of the available support.

The event highlighted the collaborative efforts of the agricultural community and government officials in enhancing the welfare of farmers through direct financial support. This initiative continues to play a crucial role in sustaining and promoting agricultural development across the country.

Suttur, June 18, 2024: The JSS High School, Suttur, NCC Airwing Troupe has won the overall prize at the annual camp organized by the 4th Karnataka Air Squadron NCC Unit. The 10-day camp was held at the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Mysuru.

The JSS High School Airwing Troupe excelled in several competitions, securing first place in the Girls Throwball competition, drill, tug of war, and solo dance competitions. They also achieved second place in the group singing competition, leading to their victory in the overall prize category.

The camp saw participation from more than 500 cadets representing 16 schools from Suttur, Gundlupet, Mysuru, Mandya, and other regions. The cadets engaged in various training programs, including the manufacturing and flying of model light aircraft.

Administrative officers, coordinating officers, heads of various departments, headmasters, and staff of JSS High School, Suttur, have extended their congratulations to the winners for their outstanding achievements.
