JSS B.Ed. College, Suttur, Observes International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

Suttur, June 27, 2023: JSS Educational University (B.Ed. College), located in Suttur, organized a special program on June 26, 2023, in commemoration of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The event, held at the college premises, welcomed Sri Karibasappa, Sub Inspector from Biligere Sub Police Station, Nanjangud Taluk, as the esteemed chief guest. Sri Karibasappa expressed his deep concern regarding the escalating usage of drugs among the youth, emphasizing its detrimental impact on physical and mental health. He further highlighted the destructive consequences of drug abuse on society at large. Sri Karibasappa assured the audience that the police department is actively working to curb the sale and usage of drugs. He encouraged the youth to voluntarily distance themselves from such harmful substances and urged everyone to report any instances of drug usage or illegal human trafficking to the nearest police station. Accompanying Sri Karibasappa was Sri Shivaraju, Sub Inspector from the Crime Division.

During the program, the first and second-year B.Ed. students had the opportunity to seek clarification on legal matters by posing questions. Dr. H.M. Mahesh, Principal of the College, presided over the event, providing guidance and support. Assistant Professors were also present to ensure the success of the program.

The program commenced with an invocation by Kum. Monica, followed by a warm welcome extended by Sri G.N. Manjunath. Sri K.V. Yogesh concluded the event by delivering a vote of thanks.

Sports Crucial for Stress Management and Time Management, Emphasizes Dr. C. Venkatesh

Mysuru, June 26, 2023: Dr. C. Venkatesh, Director of the Physical Education Department at the University of Mysore, highlighted the significance of sports activities in effectively managing stress and time for students in the modern era. He expressed concern over the declining interest and participation of students in sports, stressing the need for a shift in this trend.

Dr. Venkatesh inaugurated the Inter-college Men’s Volleyball, Trowball, and Women’s Ball Badminton tournaments at JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru. The event was organized in commemoration of His Holiness Jagadguru Rajagurutilaka Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji. During his address, Dr. Venkatesh emphasized the positive impact of sports on both physical and mental well-being. He noted that the prevalence of technological advancements has heightened student stress levels, underscoring the essential role of sports as a healthy outlet.

Presiding over the program, Prof. R. Murugeshappa, Director of the Department of Collegiate Education at JSS Mahavidyapeetha, stressed the significance of sports in shaping students’ personalities. He urged students to prioritize engaging in physical activities on the field over mobile gaming, emphasizing the holistic benefits of extracurricular involvement alongside regular academic pursuits.

Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the College, highlighted the commendable qualities of His Holiness Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji in terms of education, nourishment, and health. He underscored the importance of the inter-college tournament held in commemoration of the revered spiritual leader, emphasizing the role of sports in fostering a healthy society and nation. Prof. Sambashivaiah further emphasized the wide-reaching impact of sports, from shaping a healthy body to building confidence, trust, and discipline.

The event was inaugurated in the presence of Prof. M.P. Vijayendra Kumar, Principal of JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science. Dr. L. Vinaykumar delivered the vote of thanks, and Dr. A.G. Dharmesh from the History Department skillfully managed the program. The invocation was presented by student Rekhasri.

The tournament, which includes students from colleges under the purview of the University of Mysore, offers an opportunity for participants to showcase their skills and contribute to their overall well-being.

Researchers Urged to Foster Creativity for Quality Research and Social Change: Col. Prof. Y.S. Siddegowda

Mysuru, June 24, 2023: Promoting proper accreditation and equipping youth to tackle tomorrow’s challenges, Col. Prof. Y.S. Siddegowda, Vice-President of the Karnataka State Higher Education Council, stressed the significance of innovation and creativity in research endeavors. Speaking at a one-day national-level seminar on “Research Methodology” held at JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, in collaboration with the Karnataka State Higher Education Council, Col. Prof. Siddegowda encouraged researchers to strive for qualitative change in society and work with unwavering commitment.

In his address to students, Col. Prof. Siddegowda remarked, “Researchers should prioritize areas of study that bring tangible benefits to society. Young researchers must cultivate their interests and actively engage in innovative endeavors.” He also took the opportunity to reflect upon his longstanding association with JSS Institutions, spanning over 35 years.

Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the College, shed light on the seminar’s concept note, the institution’s milestones, and the objectives of the event, coinciding with the participation of people in the G20 summit. He emphasized that a robust research procedure is key to yielding positive outcomes. Prof. Sambashivaiah further remarked, “To effectively implement ideas, research scholars require training, guidance, and the activation of research methodology.”

Presiding over the program, Prof. D. Anand, Director of the University of Mysore’s College Development Board, highlighted the importance of research in the current education sector. He noted, “The selected topics for this seminar aptly aim to enhance the quality of educational research. The ultimate goal of research is to seek truth and continuously reap its invaluable rewards.”

The seminar comprised three sessions, featuring resource persons from various institutions who shared their expertise on distinct technical subjects.

Enhancing Tomato Crop Management: ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra Organizes Integrated Pest and Disease Management Training Program

Suttur, June 22, 2023: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Suttur, took a significant step towards promoting sustainable agriculture by conducting a comprehensive training program on Integrated Pest and Disease Management in Tomato Crop. The program, held in Haratale Village, Nanjangud Taluk, aimed to educate farmers on effective strategies to combat various diseases and pests that commonly afflict tomato crops.

During his address, Dr. Prasad Y.P., Crop Conservation Scientist at JSS KVK, provided detailed insights into the different diseases that can impact tomato crops, such as seedling blight disease, first Anthracnose disease, late Anthracnose disease, late blight disease, bacterial spec disease, leaf spot disease, tomato leaf miner, fruit borer, whiteflies, thrips, and more. Dr. Prasad highlighted the prevalence of the last Anthracnose disease, which affects tomato crops significantly, particularly in environments with high moisture levels.

To mitigate these challenges, Dr. Prasad recommended the cultivation of the ‘Arka Abhed’ variety, known for its resistance to multiple diseases. Additionally, he advised farmers to regularly spray recommended pesticides at 15-day intervals, utilizing formulations such as 2g Mancozeb, 75 WB or Mandipropamid 23.4, S.C. 0.8 ml/l, or Azaksistrabin 18.2+Dyphenoconazole 11.4 S.C. 1 ml/l.

Dr. Vinay G.M., a Horticulture Scientist, further elucidated the various scientific methods that can be adopted to optimize tomato cultivation practices, ensuring healthy and robust yields.

As part of the training program’s practical application, Arka Microbial consortium, vegetable seeds, bio-fertilizers, and Arka Abhed variety plants were distributed to 20 participating farmers, enabling them to implement the demonstrated techniques effectively.

Among the attendees, the program saw the active participation of Gram Panchayat member Govindaraju, as well as villagers Raju, Kokesh, and others, who eagerly embraced the knowledge shared during the training, subsequently benefiting their agricultural practices.

Somashekar, former Chairman of the Karnataka Border Area Development Authority, delivered an impressive address at the Border Area Cultural Program held in Talavadi, Chamarajanagara District on June 21, 2023. Emphasizing the importance of fostering harmonious relations, Dr. Somashekar urged the elimination of conflicts with neighboring states and the establishment of mutual understanding and cooperation.

The cultural event, organized by the Authority to celebrate and promote the rich heritage of the border areas, witnessed a diverse range of performances. Dr. Somashekar credited the inspiration for such programs to His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji of Suttur, whose efforts have added a global touch to the preservation of human values.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Somashekar highlighted the pivotal role played by His Holiness Swamiji as a bridge between Talavadi, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. Training Program on New Cultivation Measures in Banana Crop Empowers Farmers in Suttur

Suttur, June 9, 2023: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Suttur, in collaboration with the Nanjundeshwara Farmers Producers Company and Isha Foundation, Handuvinahalli, successfully conducted a one-day training program on innovative cultivation methods for plantain crops.

Under the guidance of Dr. G.M. Vinay, Horticulture Scientist at JSS KVK, the participating farmers were equipped with comprehensive knowledge about the latest cultivation techniques in plantain farming. The training program focused on various crucial aspects, including soil testing, pre-cultivation field preparation, crop variety selection, pit digging methods, crop treatment, tissue plantain, integrated nutrient management, drip irrigation, the significance of the Rasaavari method, nutrient deficiency symptoms and their management, effective crop management practices, and pest and disease identification and control measures.

During the program, farmers actively engaged in discussions, highlighting their challenges in horticulture farming and seeking appropriate solutions. Directors, members, and approximately 30 farmers from Devanuru, Badanavalu, Basavapura, Hegadehalli, and nearby villages enthusiastically participated in the training program, benefiting from the valuable insights shared.

The collaboration between ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nanjundeshwara Farmers Producers Company, and Isha Foundation proved to be instrumental in empowering farmers with advanced techniques in banana cultivation. The training program not only enhanced the farmers’ understanding of modern practices but also provided them with practical solutions to overcome challenges in their farming endeavors.
