Suttur, August 17: On the second day of Shravanamasa at Sattur Sri Math, Professor Shri H.B. Devanna delivered an enlightening discourse that underscored the profound value of instilling culture consciousness in the minds of children. The event, held on August 17, shed light on the significance of nurturing pure character and knowledge in the younger generation.

In his discourse, Professor Shri H.B. Devanna articulated, “The consciousness of samskara is the jewel of the heart. If culture consciousness is developed in the minds of children, it becomes a precious gem that adorns the heart.”

He continued by contemplating the journey of life—a beautiful world that spans from the mother’s womb to the final breath. Professor Devanna highlighted the invaluable fortune of raising children with virtuous character and knowledge, emphasizing that parents bear the responsibility of fostering these qualities.

Addressing the concept of victory and defeat, he emphasized that while victory is significant, it is equally important to face defeat with resilience and determination. Professor Devanna advocated for the values of kindness, compassion, co-existence, devotion to the Guru, empathy for the weak, reverence for the elderly, and love for the younger generation. He stressed the importance of imparting education with humility and wisdom, emphasizing that children should be taught values rather than entitlements.

Reflecting on the cyclic nature of birth and death, Professor Devanna emphasized the role of culture in guiding individuals towards understanding right from wrong. He urged the audience to instill a sense of moral discernment in children, guiding them in leading purposeful lives.

The event featured a recitation of poetry by Mr. D.M. Siddalingaswamy, and was attended by devotees and spiritual aspirants. Mrs. M. Nagamma and Mr. Siddaramadev of Bilugali and Mrs. N. C. Geetha Sivappadeva facilitated the program, which commenced with a collective prayer.

ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra Empowers Farmers with New Hyacinth Bean Variety

Hunasuru Taluk, August 18, 2022:  The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Suttur recently organized an enlightening training program aimed at equipping farmers with essential knowledge on the cultivation of a groundbreaking variety of Hyacinth beans. The event took place at Hulyalu Village in Hunasuru Taluk on August 18, 2022.

Renowned Horticulture Scientist, Dr. Vinay G.M. from JSS KVK, spearheaded the informative session, delving into advanced cultivation methodologies tailored for hyacinth beans. Dr. Vinay underscored the efficacy of innovative techniques such as vegetable Samruddhi and Arka Microbial mixture to augment yields in vegetable crops. The highlight of the program was the introduction of a novel hyacinth bean variety christened ‘Arka Amogha,’ which was developed and released by IIHR, Bengaluru.

Key Highlights of ‘Arka Amogha’ Hyacinth Bean Variety:

Robust Growth Profile: The ‘Arka Amogha’ variety displays robust growth, adopting a bush-like form that attains a height of 2 to 2.5 feet. It thrives seamlessly in diverse seasonal conditions.

Exquisite Flavor, Low Fiber: Noteworthy for its exquisite flavor, the seeds of ‘Arka Amogha’ have a low fiber content, rendering them exceptionally well-suited for culinary endeavors.

Resilience to Soil Moisture: ‘Arka Amogha’ showcases remarkable resilience to low soil moisture levels, ensuring adaptability across varying environmental settings.

Accelerated Maturation: This variety exhibits rapid maturation, commencing flowering just 45 days after sowing and delivering yields within a mere 55 days. The entire cultivation cycle spans a brief 100 days.

Elevated Yield Potential: ‘Arka Amogha’ boasts a formidable yield potential, capable of generating an impressive 7 tons per acre.

During the training program, attendees were bestowed with seeds of the ‘Arka Amogha’ hyacinth bean variety, empowering 10 progressive farmers to cultivate this remarkable breed within their fields. As a testament to their commitment, farmers were also provided with vegetable Samruddhi, augmenting the hands-on experience. Notably, the event witnessed active participation from 30 enthusiastic farmers from the village, alongside the esteemed presence of JSS KVK Scientist Shamraj.

Mr. Sam Cherian, Chairman of CII Mysuru Zone, Emphasizes Skilled and Smart Students as India’s Future Power

Mysuru, August 16, 2023: The potential of today’s skilled and intelligent students to shape India’s future is of paramount importance, according to Mr. Sam Cherian, Chairman of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Mysuru Zone. Addressing an audience at JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru, Mr. Sam Cherian inaugurated a skilling program focused on preparing students for employment in industries and entrepreneurship. The event, organized by the college’s Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in collaboration with CII-Industry Institute Interaction and Higher Education Panel, Mysuru Zone, was held as part of the G20 Jan Bhagidari events.

Mr. Sam Cherian urged students to cultivate unique skills that would enable them to contribute to the growth and elevation of India on the global stage. He emphasized the importance of knowledge, execution skills, leadership qualities, and problem-solving abilities in shaping individuals into well-rounded and effective contributors to society. He highlighted ten key components of active learning, including critical thinking, innovative thinking, communication skills, collaboration, and personal management for both individual and societal growth.

Highlighting the significance of skilling, Mr. Sam Cherian outlined a vision for the future, encouraging young minds to compete globally in an intelligent and innovative manner. He emphasized the need for innovation and adaptability to succeed in a competitive world.

Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the college, presided over the inaugural function and stressed the importance of various skills required in the current job market and for entrepreneurial ventures. He highlighted the efforts of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship of the Government of India in bridging the gap between demand and supply of skilled manpower.

The skilling lectures that followed the inaugural function were delivered by Mr. Raghvendra Kadkol of Infosys and Mr. Rajath Agarwal of Bhoruka Extrusions Ltd, Mysuru. The program saw participation from over 450 postgraduate students, 45 faculty members, and 10 research scholars.

India Stands Strong as the World’s Most Resilient Democracy, Affirms Prof. H.M. Rajashekar

Rajashekar, Retired Professor of Political Science at the University of Mysore, delivered an enlightening address on the occasion of the 77th Independence Day celebration held at JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science on Ooty Road, Mysuru. Prof. Rajashekar asserted that India not only holds the distinction of being the largest democratic nation but is also the strongest democratic force globally.

Reflecting on India’s remarkable journey, Prof. Rajashekar highlighted that the visionary leaders of the Indian Subcontinent, alongside the framing of a robust Constitution, have laid the sturdy democratic foundations that make India an exemplar on the world stage. Kisan Service Society Conference Promotes Innovative Agricultural Practices for Sustainable Farming

Suttur, August 13, 2023: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, in collaboration with the Kisan Service Society, Kannur, Kerala, successfully organized a three-day National Conference at Suttur Srikshetra, focusing on the advancement of sustainable and innovative agricultural practices. The event aimed to introduce farmers to cutting-edge technologies, offer profitable and sustainable farming solutions, enhance awareness on agricultural matters, and advocate for value addition in the agricultural sector.

The conference witnessed the participation of over 300 Kisan Society office-bearers, executives, and farmers, signifying the significance of the event and the collective commitment towards sustainable agriculture.

Shri Shantaveer, Deputy Divisional Manager of NABARD Bank, Mysuru, elaborated on the comprehensive facilities and support provided by NABARD to the farming community. NABARD’s role in fostering financial assistance and developmental initiatives in agriculture and rural sectors was emphasized.

Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director of the Indian Institute of Horticulture, Bengaluru, stressed the paramount importance of prioritizing horticultural crops, terrace gardening, vertical gardening, and innovative agricultural technologies. Dr. Singh encouraged farmers to embrace new varieties and horticultural practices to diversify and enhance agricultural sustainability.

Dr. Khader Wali, in his inaugural address, advocated for a paradigm shift in dietary habits towards millets, citing the evolving food landscape and associated health challenges. Millets were positioned as a healthier alternative to prevailing consumption patterns.

JSS Higher Primary School students selected for Divisional Yoga competition

Suttur, August 11, 2023: The Department of School Education and Literacy had organized a District-level Yoga Competition, at the Beden Powell School in Mysuru.

A total number of 05 students including four boys and one girl from our school took part in the competition. All the 05 of them are selected to take part in the Divisional-level competition.

While Sandeep Gowda, 7th Standard secured first place, Samarth (2nd), Manoj (3rd) (selected for divisional-level in group category), Yashwanth M. of 6th Standard secured 1st place, followed by Manya in the 2nd place under Artistic category, and are selected to take part in the divisional level that will be held at Udupi.

ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra Empowers Farmers with Scientific Mango Cultivation and Pest Management Training

Suttur, August 11, 2023: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Suttur recently organized a comprehensive one-day training program focused on “Scientific Measures in Mango Crop Cultivation and Integrated Pest and Disease Management.” The event aimed to empower local farmers with advanced techniques to enhance their mango cultivation practices and mitigate pest and disease challenges.

The program commenced with an inaugural address by Smt. Divya H.V., Senior Scientist and Incharge Head of ICAR JSS KVK. She provided an overview of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra’s initiatives and programs, emphasizing the importance of the mango training program in promoting sustainable agriculture practices.

Keynote speaker J.G. Rajanna, an expert in agricultural practices, shed light on the critical role of soil health in successful agriculture. His presentation highlighted the significance of proper nutrition for mango crops and importance of “mango samruddhi” as a tool for optimizing crop prosperity.

Horticulture Scientist Dr. Vinay G.M. engaged participants with an informative session on factors influencing mango cultivation. From selecting suitable mango varieties based on weather conditions to post-harvest technologies and effective pruning techniques, Dr. Vinay covered a spectrum of topics aimed at maximizing mango yield and quality.

Addressing the pressing concern of pest and disease management, Dr. Prasad Y.P., Plant Conservation Scientist, delivered an insightful talk on identifying and combating common pests affecting mango crops. His presentation included practical insights into managing issues like mango hoppers, mealy bugs, and fruit flies, along with integrated strategies to tackle diseases such as powdery mildew and anthracnose.

The training program’s interactive approach culminated in a hands-on demonstration of shape management and pruning techniques for mango trees. This practical session allowed participants to gain first hand experience and refine their skills.

Among the attendees included Shrikshetra Dharamastala Rural Development Program Agriculture Officer Diwakar, progressive farmers like Arun Chowgidar, as well as KVK Scientist Shamraj, Dr. Rakshith Raj, Field Manager Gangappa Hipparagi, Kumaraswamy, and more than 50 dedicated male and female farmers.

In boys category, the students of JSS Higher Primary School, Suttur, won first prize in Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Throwball tournaments and 2nd place in Volleyball. In girls category, students of the school won first prize in Kho-Kho, Vollebay, and Throwball tournaments and 2nd place in Kabaddi.

In boys athletics, Basavaraj Kantesh Sunnadakoppa secured first place in High Jump, 600 m running, and 400 m running and emerged as Individual Champion.

In boys category, Sharath Prasad secured 2nd place in 100 m running, Paramesh secured 1st place in 200 m, Vijay Kumar emerged 1st in Long Jump, Mallikarjun secured 1st place in shot put, Diganth – 1st in Discuss Throw, Vishwanath and team 1st place in 400×100 m relay.

In girls category Akshatha Manjunath Gundikoppa secured 1st place in 100 m, 2nd place in 200 m, Lakshmi secured 2nd place in 400 m, Pavitra secured 1st place in 600 m running, and 3rd place in long jump. Yujanya secured 1st place in Yujanya, Charity, 1st place in shot put and Discuss Throw, Lakshmi and team – 1st place in 400×100 m relay.
