Having Morality Key to Achieving Success, Prof. H.B. Devanna Affirms at Suttur Srimath Discourse

Suttur, August 7, 2022: In a thought-provoking discourse delivered on August 7th at the Suttur Srimath during the Shravanamaasa discourse program, Prof. H.B. Devanna emphasized the significance of morality in attaining success.

Prof. Devanna, a respected authority in his field, shared his insights on the importance of a moral compass in one’s pursuit of achievement, highlighting the ability of individuals who serve society with moral principles to find genuine success. He emphasized that power or authority are not prerequisites for meaningful social service, citing iconic world leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Abdul Kalam, and Swami Vivekananda, who exemplify this principle.

According to Prof. Devanna, adherence to core values plays a crucial role in the pursuit of noble objectives. A life guided by truth, non-violence, celibacy, honesty, and a sense of duty leads to a profound sense of fulfillment. He emphasized that values encompass various aspects, including physical, economic, religious, historic, intellectual, spiritual, and ethical dimensions. However, he underscored the unparalleled significance of spiritual and moral values for individuals seeking salvation and inner peace.

“Human beings are often drawn towards wealth, power, and authority. Yet, it is essential to recognize that these pursuits alone do not guarantee satisfaction, peace of mind, or happiness,” Prof. Devanna emphasized. He further stressed that true contentment and tranquility are found in the company of noble and virtuous individuals.

During the discourse, Prof. Devanna recited Basavanna’s vachana, ‘Saara Sajjanara Sanga Maaduvudu Doora Durjanara Sanga Bedawayya… Antaranga Shuddavilladavara Sangavu Singi, Kaalkoota Vishavo Koodalasangaiah,’ which translates to, “Don’t be surrounded by bad people… association with people who are not internally pure is like a poison.” He highlighted the importance of seeking companionship with good people while avoiding the influence of those lacking internal purity. Prof. Devanna noted that friendships with individuals lacking moral integrity are inherently perilous, akin to poison. Success and achievement, he proclaimed, are found when one aligns themselves with virtuous individuals and the teachings of the revered sharanas.

The discourse was attended by numerous spiritual aspirants, devotees, as well as notable figures such as Gamaki Shri D.M. Siddalingaiah, Smt. Mamatha, Sri S.M. Jayaprasad, and Retd. Headmaster Smt. K.G. Indiramma. The program commenced with a mass invocation, creating an atmosphere of reverence and devotion.
