One day workshop on Scientific Cultivation Practices, Marketing Facilities and Export Opportunities of traditional Crops with Geographical indication is organized on 07.01.2026 at ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Suttur in association with Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Bengaluru.
Regional Assistant Managing Director, APEDA, Shri U. Dharmarao said that the basic objective of the APEDA is to create an international market for agricultural products of traditional crops with geographical indication. He said that suitable guidance will be provided to the farmers through APEDA to sell their agricultural products of traditional importance.
Nanjangud Assistant Director of Horticulture C.S. Chandru informed the farmers that cultivation of Nanjangud Rasabale has drastically come down and the farmers should cultivate more Nanjangud rasable as it fetches good price in the market. He also said that special incentives would be given for cultivating GI crops of Mysuru district.
Mrs. Madhumathi Andrews, Manager, APEDA, Bengaluru said that if farmers register with APEDA through horticulture department and cultivate traditional crops with geographical indication of Mysuru district. APEDA will provide assistance up to Rs. 5 lakh. Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and self-help groups (SHGs) can also register with the APEDA and get subsidy for their crops and sell their produce globally.
The Assistant Manager, APEDA, Dr B.K. Pooja speaking on the occasion, said that agricultural products can be categorized as scheduled and non-scheduled agricultural products and registered with APEDA to sell high quality agricultural products. He said that every country has its own rules in the international market and according to the rules of their country, agricultural products can be sold with the guidance of APEDA.
The programme was presided over by Dr. B.N. Gnanesh and he called upon the farmers to cultivate different crops in every season instead of growing one crop in every season to maintain the fertility of the soil. He also discussed the difference between natural farming and organic farming and its pros and cons. Mysore’s traditional crops like Nanjangud Rasabale, Mysore Betele leaf, Mysore Valiyadale and Eeranagere Badane have good market value. He told the farmers to take interest in cultivating these crops. KVK will provide all the technical guidance for growing these GI crops with support of APEDA. Shortly GI Banana and Mysuru betel leaf crops will be exported to foreign countries. At the same time, he informed the farmers about the central government’s scheme Vikasit Bharat Ji Ram Ji.
Subject Matter Specialists Dr. G.M. Vinay & Dr. Y. P. Prasad provide information on methods of cultivation of traditional crops of Mysore district. Experts Dr. GM Vinay delivered the introductory speech. Dr. Prasad welcomed and compered the programme. Dr. Deepak offered vote of thanks. More than 120 farmers and farmwomen participated in the programme.
The Silk Fab Expo was inaugurated on 05-01-2026, with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Shri Nitesh Patil, IAS, Regional Commissioner, Revenue Department, Government of Karnataka.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by staff members of the National Handloom Development Corporation, including Shri Abhay Tandon, Regional Manager; Shri Vijay Upari, Assistant Manager, along with Shri Prabhakaran C., Deputy Director, Weavers’ Service Centre, Bengaluru.
Organized on the occasion of the Sankranti festival, the Silk Fab Expo will continue until 17-01-2026. The expo is open to the public free of charge and will be held daily from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, welcoming visitors from Mysuru and nearby areas.
Suttur, December 30: Manoj Airani, a ninth-grade student of JSS Residential School, Suttur Math, has been selected to participate in the Khelo India National Level Mallakhamba Competition, which will be held at Daman and Diu, Gujarat, from January 5 to January 7, 2026.

Suttur, December 29, 2025: Students of the JSS Higher Primary school took part in various taluk level Prathiba Karanji (Talent Hunt) competitions conducted by the Department of School Education and Literacy, held at the Government Adarsha Vidyalaya, in Deburu, Nanjangud Taluk and won several prizes. The details are as follows:
1st to 4th standard Individual competition: Students Tanushri (Kannada Kanthapaatha, 1st prize); Anushri (Religious recital – Sanskrit, 2nd prize)
5th to 7th standard Individual comeptition: Neela Manjunath (Kannada Kanthapaatha, 1st prize; Namita, English Kanthapaatha, 3rd prize; Niharika – Religious recital – Sanskri, 1st prize; Vaishnavi – Abhinaya geethe, 2nd prize; Pritvhi – Devotional song singing, 3rd prize), Neela Manjunath and Niharika – 1st prize.
All these students have been selected to take part in district-level competitions bringing name to the school.

National Farmers’ Day celebrations, banana value-addition training, and distribution of tools to TSP farmers organized at ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Suttur, to promote sustainable agriculture and farmer empowerment.
Suttur, December 24, 2025: National Farmers’ Day was observed at the ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Suttur, with the live telecast of Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s address, along with the organisation of an Animal Health Camp.
Speaking on the occasion, Senior Scientist and Head of ICAR JSS KVK, Dr. B.N. Gyanesh, said that Farmers’ Day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh. He briefed the farmers about the 125-day employment opportunity guarantee scheme and explained the key features of the Viksit Bharat—Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Grameen) Act, 2025. He urged farmers to make effective use of these schemes for their economic development.
As part of the programme, an Animal Health Camp was organised at Basavanapura village in Nanjangud taluk in collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services. Dr. B.N. Gnanesh highlighted that cattle form the backbone of farmers’ livelihoods and that sustained income generation is possible through healthy livestock. He emphasised the importance of maintaining cattle health for long-term financial stability. During the camp, Animal Science subject expert Dr. U.M. Rakshitraj and veterinary department staff administered medicines and vaccinations to more than 85 cattle.
In connection with the Farmers’ Day celebrations, progressive farmers including Mrs. Ashwini of Durgagram, Mrs. Bindu R. Swamy of Mysuru, Shri Siddappa and Shri Prabhuswamy of Hoskote village, Shri Raghunandan of Chatnahalli village, Smt. Suma Nagaraju of K. Belthur village and Shri K.M. Raju of Karanakuppe village were felicitated in recognition of their contributions.
To promote entrepreneurship and economic self-reliance among women, ICAR JSS KVK, Suttur, provided a banana chips-making machine, a sealing machine and a weighing machine to the Sri Chandramouleshwara Women Producers’ Association.
Farmers, officials and staff members participated in the programme and made the National Farmers’ Day celebrations meaningful.

Suttur, December 22, 2025: National Mathematics Day was celebrated at JSS High School, Suttur, under the aegis of the JSS Science and Technology Knowledge Resource Center, Suttur, with the aim of fostering interest and appreciation for mathematics among students.
As part of the programme, Mr. Ilangovan, Coordinator of the JSS Science and Technology Knowledge Resource Center, delivered an insightful lecture highlighting the significance of National Mathematics Day. He spoke in detail about the life and extraordinary contributions of legendary mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, elaborating on his work in number theory, infinite series, mock theta functions, Ramanujan’s magic square, polyhedrons, and the thousands of formulas and theorems he contributed to the field of mathematics.
Adding a practical and creative dimension to the celebrations, Mr. Muralidhar, Director of the Mysore Science Foundation and a renowned origami expert, conducted an engaging hands-on session on origami for more than 100 students. Through paper folding, students created various mathematical models such as solid figures, stars, cylinders, cones, pyramids, rockets, and other geometric forms. He emphasized that mathematics is not rigid or difficult but can be beautiful and enjoyable, remarking that “mathematics is not iron; it is as sweet as a peeled banana.” Students actively participated in the session and joyfully created mathematical models, making learning both fun and meaningful.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Shri G. L. Tripurantaka, Coordinator of JSS Education Institute, encouraged students to dream big in life and work diligently in the right direction to realize those dreams. Referring to Srinivasa Ramanujan, he said that although Ramanujan lived only for 32 years, his contributions will remain relevant for centuries. He emphasized that the length of life is not as important as the lasting value of one’s achievements.
The programme was compered by Mr. V. Vinod Kumar, Physics teacher.
More than 500 students and teachers participated in the event, making the celebration a grand success.
