Suttur, July 29, 2024: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, in collaboration with the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru, and the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management, Hyderabad, has launched a 15-day training program on Integrated Nutrition Management for fertilizer traders. This Certificate Course (CCINM), conducted by the Staff Training Unit-Samethi (South) under the Extension Directorate, Bengaluru, is scheduled from July 29 to August 12, 2024, at the JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Suttur.
Dr. V.L. Madhuprasad, Director of the Extension Center at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru, inaugurated the program today. Shri Manjunath Angadi, Deputy Director of the Horticulture Department in Mysuru, and Dr. K. Shivaramu, Training Coordinator and Head of the Staff Training Unit-Samethi, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru, graced the occasion as chief guests. Shri N.M. Shivashankarappa, Director of the Horticulture Department at JSS Mahavidyapeetha, presided over the event.
During his inaugural address, Dr. V.L. Madhuprasad highlighted the historical context of fertilizer use in India, emphasizing the need for balanced fertilizer application to maintain soil health. He encouraged farmers to prioritize organic and green compost manures as alternatives to chemical fertilizers to enhance soil productivity.
Chief guest Dr. K. Shivaramu advocated for mandatory soil testing before fertilizer distribution to ensure sustainable soil fertility management. He stressed that fertilizers should be sold based on soil test results to protect soil health.
Shri Manjunath Angadi emphasized the importance of preserving soil fertility to extend its lifespan. He urged participants to sell fertilizers based on soil tests and to reduce salt accumulation in the soil.
Presiding over the program, Shri N.M. Shivashankarappa drew parallels between the need for good seeds and good soil for optimal crop yield. He advised participants to educate farmers on managing 16 essential soil nutrients and recommended crop rotation and the use of organic and green compost manures to maintain soil health.
Dr. B.N. Jnanesh, Training Assistant Coordinator, Senior Scientist, and Head of JSS KVK, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Y.P. Prasad, Subject Expert, moderated the event, and Shri J.G. Rajanna delivered the vote of thanks.

Suttur, July 25, 2024: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Suttur, recently organized a successful field day event at Haratale Village in Nanjangud Taluk. The event marked the release of the new Arka Yashaswi Chilli variety and the distribution of nutrition kitchen garden plants to selected beneficiaries, aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and promoting home gardening.
Dr. Vinay from ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra addressed the attendees on crucial topics such as integrated crop management, crop variety selection, field preparation, and integrated disease and pest management. He highlighted the challenges faced by farmers, emphasizing the importance of selecting suitable crop varieties released by reputable institutions for improved yield.
Dr. Vinay specifically mentioned the newly released Arka Yashaswi Chilli variety by the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bengaluru. He explained that this variety is well-suited for the local climate, characterized by its tall and wide growth, higher yield potential, and resistance to Muturu Roga (mint disease).
Following a demonstration of the new chilli variety, the crop plants were distributed to the attending farmers, enabling them to benefit from this advancement in agricultural technology.
In addition to the focus on chilli cultivation, Dr. Deepak, a Home Scientist from JSS KVK, distributed various vegetable crop seeds to women farmers from Haratale Village and three representatives of Anganwadi centers. This initiative aims to encourage kitchen gardening, fostering self-sufficiency and nutrition among local households.
The event witnessed the participation of twenty farmers, including fifteen women farmers, who actively engaged in the program and availed themselves of the resources and knowledge shared.

Suttur, July 24, 2024: The students of JSS High School, Suttur, have showcased their exceptional talent in yoga by excelling at the Taluk-level Yoga Competition. Nine students from the school have earned the opportunity to compete at the District-level competitions, marking a significant achievement for the young yogis.
In the boys’ category, Samarth Anigola secured the first place in the under-14 age group. In the under-17 age group, Sandip Patil achieved first place, followed by Krishna in second place, Srujan in third place, S. Srinivas in fourth place, and Manoj C. Irani in fifth place.
The girls’ category saw Sushmita securing fifth place, S.M. Sanjana earning sixth place, and S.U. Savithri finishing in seventh place.
The administrative officer, along with the heads of various departments, teaching, and non-teaching staff of JSS High School, have extended their heartfelt congratulations to all the winners. They have also conveyed their best wishes to the students for their upcoming District-level competitions.

Suttur, April 04, 2024: The Suttur Sri Veerasimhasana Samsthana Math will be conducting a free mass marriage program on June 28, 2024, Friday, with the divine blessings of Paramapujya Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji.
Since February 2009, the Samsthana Math has been conducting monthly free mass marriage programs, apart from the mass marriage program held during the Adijagadguru’s Jatra Mahotsav at Suttur Srikshetra.
This program aims to help couples who are economically challenged and cannot afford the expenses of a traditional wedding ceremony. Sri Haraguru Charamurthy will participate in the mass marriages held at Suttur Srikshetra and bless the couples.
The program is open to couples where the groom is above 21 years of age and the bride is above 18 years of age. Interested individuals can send applications along with photographs of the bride and groom, caste certificates, and certificate or school marks card copy as proof of age. Child marriages are strictly prohibited.
