Dr. Rajendra Mahaswamiji: A Visionary Leader with Compassionate Service

Suttur, August 29, 2024: During the 26th day of the Shravana Masa discourse at Sri Sutturkshetra, Sri H.B. Devanna emphasized the remarkable contributions of His Holiness Dr. Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji. Described as a “Trivida Dasohi” who dedicated his life to education, health, and food, Mahaswamiji is remembered for his mother-like compassion. His visionary leadership led to the founding of JSS Mahavidyapeetha in 1954, which has since grown into a major educational and cultural institution. His legacy includes global missionary efforts to promote Indian culture and spirituality.

The discourse highlighted several inspiring incidents from Mahaswamiji’s life, illustrating his deep concern for students and his dedication to providing education and nourishment to the underprivileged. His initiatives have flourished, with the JSS Mahavidyapeetha now managing various educational institutions, from medical and engineering colleges to schools of law, pharmacy, and the arts.

His influence also extended to the spiritual and cultural domains, with the Math playing a significant role in promoting Indian music and spiritual growth through various programs. Mahaswamiji’s missionary tours, including one to England and America in 1986, were particularly noted for their success in bringing Indian spirituality and culture to a global audience.

Sri D.M. Siddalingaiah recited poetry during the event, while members of the Suttur Madivala Samaja Bhakta Mandali and numerous devotees participated in the sevartha. The program commenced with prayers and drew a large number of spiritual aspirants and devotees.

Shravana Maasa Poojanusthana at Sri Suttur Kshetra

Suttur, August 2, 2024: The Shravana Maasa Poojanusthana and discourse program at Sri Suttur Kshetra will be held from August 4 to September 1, 2024. Special poojas will be conducted at the shrine of Adi Jagadguru Shri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Mahaswamiji, and the temples of Shri Mahadeshwara, Shri Nanjundeshwara, Shri Someshwara, Shri Veerbhadreshwara, and Shri Narayanaswami. The rituals will include Rudrabhisheka, Shivasahasranamavali, Shivashtottara Mahamangalarthi, and more.

Mass prayers will take place daily from 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a discourse on the book ‘Shivatatwa Chintamani’ by Lakkanna Dandesha from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The discourse will be interpreted by Prof. H.B. Devanna and delivered by Shri D.M. Siddalingaswamy.

The inaugural function of the discourse program will be conducted on Sunday, August 4, at 6:00 PM in the divine presence of His Holiness Jagadguru Shri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji. Shri N. Vishnuvardhana, Superintendent of Police, Mysuru, will inaugurate the function. Shri Gowrishankara Swamiji of Shri Bettada Muth, M.L. Hundi, T. Narasipura Taluk, will also be present. The program will be presided over by Shri S.L. Channabasanna, Deputy Director of the Mysuru Police Academy, and Dr. P. Shivaraju, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru District, will be the chief guest.

Devotees and the public are encouraged to participate in large numbers to receive the blessings of the deities.

JSS Residential School Students Shine in National General Knowledge Examination

Suttur, August 1, 2024: Students of JSS Residential School, Suttur, have brought pride and recognition to their institution by excelling in the All India General Knowledge Examination (AIGKE), conducted by the Human Resources Department, Government of India.

Darshan M. Gowda, a 9th Standard student, secured the 19th rank, while Advaith, a 10th Standard student, received the ‘Proficiency Merit’ award. These outstanding achievements highlight the students’ dedication and the quality of education provided at JSS Residential School.

Integrated Nutrition Management Training Program for Fertilizer Traders Begins at JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra

Suttur, July 29, 2024: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, in collaboration with the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru, and the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management, Hyderabad, has launched a 15-day training program on Integrated Nutrition Management for fertilizer traders. This Certificate Course (CCINM), conducted by the Staff Training Unit-Samethi (South) under the Extension Directorate, Bengaluru, is scheduled from July 29 to August 12, 2024, at the JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Suttur.

Dr. V.L. Madhuprasad, Director of the Extension Center at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru, inaugurated the program today. Shri Manjunath Angadi, Deputy Director of the Horticulture Department in Mysuru, and Dr. K. Shivaramu, Training Coordinator and Head of the Staff Training Unit-Samethi, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru, graced the occasion as chief guests. Shri N.M. Shivashankarappa, Director of the Horticulture Department at JSS Mahavidyapeetha, presided over the event.

During his inaugural address, Dr. V.L. Madhuprasad highlighted the historical context of fertilizer use in India, emphasizing the need for balanced fertilizer application to maintain soil health. He encouraged farmers to prioritize organic and green compost manures as alternatives to chemical fertilizers to enhance soil productivity.

Chief guest Dr. K. Shivaramu advocated for mandatory soil testing before fertilizer distribution to ensure sustainable soil fertility management. He stressed that fertilizers should be sold based on soil test results to protect soil health.

Shri Manjunath Angadi emphasized the importance of preserving soil fertility to extend its lifespan. He urged participants to sell fertilizers based on soil tests and to reduce salt accumulation in the soil.

Presiding over the program, Shri N.M. Shivashankarappa drew parallels between the need for good seeds and good soil for optimal crop yield. He advised participants to educate farmers on managing 16 essential soil nutrients and recommended crop rotation and the use of organic and green compost manures to maintain soil health.

Dr. B.N. Jnanesh, Training Assistant Coordinator, Senior Scientist, and Head of JSS KVK, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Y.P. Prasad, Subject Expert, moderated the event, and Shri J.G. Rajanna delivered the vote of thanks.

Arka Yashaswi Chilli Variety Released; Distribution of Nutrition Kitchen Garden Plants at Haratale Village

Suttur, July 25, 2024: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Suttur, recently organized a successful field day event at Haratale Village in Nanjangud Taluk. The event marked the release of the new Arka Yashaswi Chilli variety and the distribution of nutrition kitchen garden plants to selected beneficiaries, aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and promoting home gardening.

Dr. Vinay from ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra addressed the attendees on crucial topics such as integrated crop management, crop variety selection, field preparation, and integrated disease and pest management. He highlighted the challenges faced by farmers, emphasizing the importance of selecting suitable crop varieties released by reputable institutions for improved yield.

Dr. Vinay specifically mentioned the newly released Arka Yashaswi Chilli variety by the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bengaluru. He explained that this variety is well-suited for the local climate, characterized by its tall and wide growth, higher yield potential, and resistance to Muturu Roga (mint disease).

Following a demonstration of the new chilli variety, the crop plants were distributed to the attending farmers, enabling them to benefit from this advancement in agricultural technology.

In addition to the focus on chilli cultivation, Dr. Deepak, a Home Scientist from JSS KVK, distributed various vegetable crop seeds to women farmers from Haratale Village and three representatives of Anganwadi centers. This initiative aims to encourage kitchen gardening, fostering self-sufficiency and nutrition among local households.

The event witnessed the participation of twenty farmers, including fifteen women farmers, who actively engaged in the program and availed themselves of the resources and knowledge shared.
