Suttur, June 7, 2025: As part of the ongoing Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, a team of agricultural scientists, including experts from ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Suttur, conducted extensive field visits across multiple villages in Mysuru Taluk on June 6, 2025, marking the 9th day of the campaign.
The team visited the farm of Shri Parashivamurthy in Kempegowdanahundi Village, a progressive farmer trained in organic agriculture. He has adopted organic practices in cultivating banana, arecanut, and coconut, using vermicompost produced on his farm. The scientists examined his field and encouraged surrounding farmers to consider phased adoption of organic farming methods to enhance sustainability and soil health.
The team also visited the integrated farm of Shri Krishnegowda in Varakhodu Village, where they advised him on diversifying farming activities by incorporating animal husbandry, poultry, and sheep farming along with regular crop cultivation to improve income and resource utilization.
At Bommenahalli Village in Yelwala Hobli, Sri Shamraj, Cultivation Expert at JSS KVK, engaged with local farmers and educated them on improved cultivation techniques for cereals, soil health management, soil and water conservation, and rainwater harvesting. He also shared technical knowledge on rainfed crop cultivation methods suited to local conditions.
Sri Virupaksha, Officer from the Department of Agriculture, informed farmers about the various schemes, subsidies, and facilities available through the department to support agricultural development. The Taluk Agriculture Officer, in charge of the ATMA (Agricultural Technology Management Agency) program, elaborated on the benefits and implementation of the ATMA initiatives in the region.
Dr. Sujatha Nair and Dr. Anuradha Sane, Scientists from ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru, provided farmers with valuable insights into mango variety selection, mango orchard management, and flower cultivation techniques that can enhance productivity and quality.
The field outreach activities of the day benefited over 418 farmers across the visited villages, reflecting the Abhiyan’s continued commitment to knowledge-sharing, sustainable farming practices, and farmer empowerment.
