Suttur, September 15, 2025: A two-month Food Value Addition Vocational Training Program was inaugurated on Monday at Someshwarapur village, Mysuru taluk, in collaboration with ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Suttur and JSS Jana Shikshana Sansthan, Mysuru, under the scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India.
The program was presided over and inaugurated by Smt. Leela Shivakumar, Vice President of JSS Jana Shikshana Sansthan, who encouraged women to actively participate in vocational training and aspire to become entrepreneurs. She further motivated them to achieve self-reliance by learning diverse skills such as bag making, tailoring, beautician training, and other vocational trades.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Ramesh, Director of JSS Janashikshana Sansthan, emphasized that value addition in food products can enhance women’s income. He explained that the current training program under skill development and entrepreneurship initiatives will help women gain knowledge and confidence to start their own enterprises. Through the training, participants will learn to prepare spice powders, pickles, sambar pudi, rasam pudi, and different varieties of happala (papads).
Dr. Deepak, Home Scientist at ICAR JSS KVK Suttur, highlighted that this two-month training is especially beneficial for women farmers and members of self-help groups. He urged women to take full advantage of the program by preparing and marketing value-added products through their groups, thereby increasing household income. He also noted the growing demand for traditional foods in the market, explaining that the training will equip women to prepare ragi happala, cereal-based happala, sandige, spice powders, and pickles. He encouraged participants to become entrepreneurs by availing subsidies and support from the Central and State Governments under the Prime Minister’s Small Food Processing Enterprises Regulatory Scheme (PM-SFME).
The program began with a welcome by Mrs. Saubhagya, Program Coordinator of JSS Jana Shikshana Sansthan, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Mrs. Roja.
More than 35 women and members of self-help groups from Mysore taluk participated in the training program and benefitted from it.
