Mysuru, Jan. 15, 2021: Dr. Swami Shantivratanandaji Maharaj of Ramakrishna Math, Mysuru, emphasized the significance of India’s youth contributing to the country’s development during the celebration of ‘National Youth Day’ and the ‘National Service Scheme Unit activities’ at JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science on B.N. Road, Mysuru.

In his address to the students, Dr. Swami Shantivratanandaji Maharaj highlighted that Swami Vivekananda’s birthday is celebrated as ‘National Youth Day’ in India, as his life and teachings profoundly influenced great leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, and Subhash Chandra Bose. He commended the National Service Scheme (NSS) for instilling a sense of service and humanity in individuals, molding their character, and nurturing good citizenship.

Expressing his viewpoint as the chief guest, Sri Amma Ramachandra, an International Folk Artist and National Award Winner, shared how Swami Vivekananda’s ideas have inspired numerous youth, including himself. He credited the NSS for aiding him in exploring his talents and uplifting him from a humble background. Sri Amma Ramachandra praised the NSS unit of JSS College for their commendable work, which involves community-oriented services such as cleaning the Kapila River and adopting several Government Kannada Schools.

Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the College, emphasized Swami Vivekananda’s visionary dreams for India’s future, asserting that his life and teachings continue to motivate and hold immense value for the youth. He highlighted the worldwide impact of Swami Vivekananda’s thoughts and the role of the NSS, conceived by Mahatma Gandhi during his birth centenary, in organizing the country’s youth. Prof. Sambashivaiah encouraged students to make the most of the NSS program’s benefits, contributing to a prosperous society and realizing their own potential.

During the event, Keertana A.M., a final year B.Voc student, received the prestigious ‘Excellent Volunteer Award’ named after Tejaswi, the creative director of the renowned TV program ‘Majaa Talkies.’ Additionally, Sachin Raj, Rakshit, and Niranjan, students of JSS College who served as Corona warriors in the Televerification Division of the Mysuru City Corporation, were felicitated for their dedicated service.

The program began with an invocation by Jyoth N. Bhat, an artist from the esteemed Boys of Bengaluru group. Dr. H.C. Honnappa, Principal of JSS College, extended a warm welcome to all attendees. Keertana A.M., the Organizing Secretary, skillfully anchored the program. Dr. N. Maheshwari, Head of the Kannada Department, delivered the vote of thanks. The event witnessed the participation of N. Santhosh Kumar, Programme Officer, teaching and non-teaching staff, and volunteers.
