Swami Vivekananda’s life and messages helpful to inculcate good character- Dr. Swami Shantivratanandaji Maharaj
Mysuru, Jan. 15, 2021: “India is a developing country, today’s youth should think of how they can contribute to make it a developed country. Youth with enthusiasm and knowledge are essential for the country today. They should develop physical and mental strength,” opined Dr. Swami Shantivratanandaji Maharaj of Ramakrishna Math, Mysuru.
He inaugurated the ‘National Youth Day’ programme and the ‘National Service Scheme Unit activities’, organised at the JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science, B.N. Road, Mysuru. In his address to the students, he said, “Swami Vivekananda’s Birthday is celebrated as the ‘National Youth Day’ in our country. Great leaders of our country like Mahatma Gandhiji, Rabindranath Tagore, and Subhash Chandra Bose were greatly influenced by the life and thoughts of Swami Vivekananda. The National Service Scheme (NSS) inculcates service-mindedness and humanity in all, it shapes the good personality of a person and makes them good citizens. The NSS unit of JSS College is involved in a society oriented services like cleaning the Kapila River and other good works by adopting several Government Kannada Schools. The College management has extended all cooperation for this work, which is appreciable,” he said.
Chief Guest of the programme, International Folk Artist and National Award Winner Sri Amma Ramachandra expressed his view that Swami Vivekananda’s thoughts had inspired much youth like him. “The National Service Scheme helped me in exploring my talent and lifted me, despite hailing from a poor family. Students can develop a good personality along with a disciplined life through NSS activities. I am so happy to see the activities of the NSS Unit of this college,” he said.
Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the College explained that Swami Vivekananda had wonderful dreams for the future India, and his life and thoughts will always be motivational and valuable for youth. “His thoughts inspire every young person in the world. The National Service Scheme is the brainchild of Mahatma Gandhiji, which came into existence during his birth centenary. ‘Not for me, it’s for you’, which is the theme of this programme, has played a vital role in organising the youth of this country. Apart from helping in fulfilling the Gram Swarajya idea of Gandhiji, this programme has been helpful in the overall development of students. Every student should utilize the benefits of this programme and develop a good future and contribute for building a good society,” he added.
The ‘Excellent Volunteer award,’ which is given in the name of Tejaswi, creative director of the famous TV programme ‘Majaa Talkies,’ was given to Keertana A.M, a final year B.Voc student. Students of this college Sachin Raj, Rakshit, and Niranjan, who served as Corona warriors in the Televerification Division of MCC were felicitated on this occasion.
The programme commenced with an invocation by Jyoth N. Bhat, an artist in the renowned Boys of Bengaluru group. Dr. H.C. Honnappa, Principal, JSS College welcomed the gathering. Keertana A.M., Organising Secretary was the anchor. Dr. N. Maheshwari, HOD, Kannada Department gave a vote of thanks. N. Santhosh Kumar, Programme Officer, teaching and non-teaching staff, and volunteers took part in the programme.
