Skill-based Education Essential for a Bright Future: Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar

Mysuru, March 15, 2022: Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mysore, emphasized the importance of skill-based education in today’s competitive world during the ‘Abhivinayasa’ student induction program at JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Mysuru. The two-day program was organized to benefit new students enrolled in PG courses.

Addressing the students, Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar acknowledged the abundance of knowledge sources available today but stressed the need for genuine interest and active engagement in learning. He highlighted the significance of skill-based education and encouraged students to develop practical skills alongside obtaining degrees to be industry-ready. Prof. Kumar emphasized that the current age is the ideal time for acquiring essential skills.

In his presidential address, Sri S.P. Shadakshariswamy, former Chairman of Karnataka Public Services Commission (KPSC), emphasized the importance of knowledge in the modern world and urged students to cultivate a habit of reading and staying informed. He emphasized the need for holistic knowledge, including general awareness beyond the curriculum.

Prof. B. V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the College, introduced the college’s achievements, including an ‘A’ grade from NAAC, the establishment of JSS Radio 91.2 MHz on campus, and the provision of resources and research facilities. Prof. Sambashivaiah highlighted the college’s commitment to skill-based teaching to meet students’ professional needs.

The program commenced with an invocation by Kum. Sannidhi, and Principal Dr. H.C. Honnappa delivered a welcome address. The event also featured speeches by various professors, including Prof. H.B. Devanna, Dr. V. ManjunathGuru, Prof. R.M. Chintamani, and others, who covered a range of topics.

A total of 611 first-year PG students from 15 postgraduate departments are participating in the program.
