At the concluding ceremony of the Shravanmasa Poojanushthana and Pravachana programme at Suttur Srikshetra, Smt. Nirmala Mathapati, Joint Director, Department of Kannada and Culture, delivered the concluding address in the divine presence of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivaratri Deshikendra Mahaswamy. Shri N.P. Chandrashekar, Smt. Rashmi Koti and Shri Shadakshari Swamy were present on the occasion.
Suttur, September 10, 2026: “Shravana is the month when nature celebrates,” said Smt. Nirmala Mathapati, Joint Director, Department of Kannada and Culture, while speaking at the concluding ceremony of the Shravanamasa Puja and Pravachana programme held at Suttur Srikshetra in the divine presence of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivaratri Deshikendra Mahaswamy.
She said that Shravanamasa (Shravana month) holds special significance in Indian tradition and is considered an auspicious month for the worship of Lord Shiva. A series of festivals and observances during the month brings joy to people of all ages.
“Just as the earth turns green with good rains, the mind too becomes enriched by listening to the words of the wise. To remove the weeds that grow in the mind, one must listen to Puranas and spiritual discourses,” she observed. She appreciated Suttur Srimath for organising programmes that sow values such as love, faith and sacrifice in people’s lives through spiritual learning.
Smt. Rashmi Koti of Andolana Daily said that God blesses a pure mind and that when devotion is present in one’s work, achieving the desired goal becomes easier. Listening to good thoughts helps purify the mind and contributes to the creation of a better society. She said Suttur Srimath has been engaged in the noble task of bringing people’s minds together by combining modern education with traditional culture and values.
Sri N.P. Chandrashekar, President of the Delhi Unit of the All India Sharana Sahitya Parishat, said that, as the saying goes, “What is learnt in adolescence remains until old age.” The culture and values imbibed at a young age, he said, help shape a better future.
He observed that children who develop self-confidence, devotion and dedication towards learning can achieve success naturally. Referring to the lives of devotees and Sharanas, he said they used the wealth and strength they acquired during their life’s journey in the service of living beings, and urged everyone to follow the same path with honesty.
He advised students to study with dedication and perseverance, drawing an analogy to a rough stone that is continuously worked upon until it is transformed into a beautiful sculpture. He also appreciated the efforts of the revered Jagadguru in taking India’s cultural heritage beyond the seven seas and to the wider world.
Sri Shadakshari Swami of Halasahalli Gavi Math said that Yatis observe Chaturmasa Vrata during the month of Shravana. By listening to spiritual teachings and practising meditation, one can rise above the difficulties of worldly life and move towards the path of liberation.
He said Shravanmasa is particularly suitable for listening to Shastras, Puranas, the Ramayana, the Mahabharata and Vachana literature. He appreciated Suttur Srimath for reviving the Indian Gurukul tradition by providing opportunities for spiritual study and reflection.
As part of the programme, Prof. H.B. Devanna, Kannada Professor at JSS College, delivered a discourse on Lakkanna Dandesha’s ‘Shivatattva Chintamani.’ Prizes were distributed to members of the audience and students who listened to the discourses and wrote essays based on them.
Dr. Sri Jayarajendra, Haraguru Charamurthy, Madikeri entrepreneurs Sri Siddalingesh and Sri J.P. Koti, and JSS Institutions Administrator Sri S.P. Udayashankar were present on the occasion.
Students of Suttur School rendered the invocation. Smt. Jagadambika welcomed the gathering, Smt. S.J. Saujanya proposed a vote of thanks, and Sri H.M. Girish compered the programme.
Gurukul devotees, officials of JSS organisations, devotees from Suttur and surrounding villages, and spiritual seekers participated in the concluding ceremony.
