Poshan Abhiyan program at ICAR JSS KVK

Suttur, September 17, 2022: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Suttur, organized a Poshan Abhiyan and planting of saplings program, in association with the Agriculture Technicians Institute, Mysuru, under the IFCO initiative, at its premises in Suttur, in Najangud Taluk.

The program was organized as per the directions of the Union Agricultural Ministry, on the occasion of the 72nd Birthday celebrations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Union Agriculture Minister Sri Narendra Singh Tomar addressed the gathering online. “Poshan Abhiyan program is being held in 713 Krishi Vigyan Kendras across the country today. More than 2 lakh vegetable seed kits and 8 lakh saplings are being planted as part of the program. Farmers should protect soil fertility by using nano urea, which also brings them more profits. If India wants to become self-reliant, agriculture should become self-reliant. Hence, farmers should adopt modern technology in farming practices,” he observed.

Dr. Mahanteshappa M., Joint Director of Agriculture Department (Retd.), Mysuru, and President, Agriculture Technicians Institute, Mysuru Chapter participated as the chief guest. In his address, he explained the objective of organizing the Poshan Abhiyan program and the significance of soil nutrients.

Sri Manoj, Field Officer, IFCO Initiative, in his address explained the difference between nano urea and general urea, yield, and soil fertility.

Dr. Nikhit, Veterinarian, Suttur, in his address, highlighted the lack of serum iron in girl children and explained the importance of consuming nutritious food and supplements. He also advised the participants to develop kitchen gardens and use self-grown vegetables for better health.

JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra Home Scientist Smt. Netravathi Ettinamani provided information about the significance of kitchen gardens, millets, and biofortified crops.

In his presidential address, Smt. H.V. Divya, Incharge Head, JSS KVK, and Senior Scientist observed that the number of plants and trees has declined over the years and advised the farmers and students to shoulder the responsibility of planting trees and looking after them. She also explained the main purpose of the Poshan Abhiyan program, which is to solve the problem of food nutrition, and advised the farmers to utilize the vegetable and greens seeds distributed to farmers, appropriately.

The chief guests planted saplings on the JSS KVK premises after the dais program. About 100 vegetable seed kits and vegetable plants were distributed to the farmers and students who were present in the audience.

Dr. Vinay G.M., Horticulture Scientist, JSS KVK, welcomed the gathering, and Sri J.G. Ramanna, Program Assistant (Soil Science), JSS KVK gave a vote of thanks. Smt. Netravathi Ettinamani mastered the program. Dr. Rakshit Raj, Veterinarian, JSS KVK translated the speech of the Union Minister from Hindi to Kannada.

Farmers, including both male and female farmers from Suttur and surrounding villages, teachers and students of the Gurumahanteshwara School, Hoskote, staff members of the Agriculture Technicians Institute, Mysuru Chapter, staff of the JSS Dasoha Bhavana, D.L. Mahadevappa of Danayakanapura, Chinnabuddhi, JSS KVK staff Sri Shamraj, Sri Gangappa Hipparagi, Sri Kumaraswamy, Sri Sundarraj, students from the NOIDA University and others participated.
