About Us
Govinakovi Sri Gurubasappa High School is situated in Arakere Village, Honnali Taluk, Davanagere District. Located at a distance of 7 km from Honnali town, the school was started in 1983. Before its establishment, Arakere did not have a high school because of which many students, especially girls, had to discontinue their studies.
Sri Gurubasappa, after whom this school has been named, had his primary education at Arakere Village and high School education in Honnali. He used to walk 14 km every day to his school in Honnali. He understood the difficulties faced by the children of Arakere who had to pursue a high school education.
Sri Gurubasappa, who was a devotee of the JSS Math, met HH Jagadguru Dr Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji and shared the problems faced by the students of his village. With the blessings of HH, a high school was established in the village.
The school has many alumni who are having a successful career. Late, Sri. Gurubasappa’s wife, Smt. Sharadamma visits the school annually on special occasions.
Admission is given to students of 8th, 9th and 10th standard as per the norms laid by the Government of Karnataka. Free education is provided to all. The medium of instruction is Kannada.
The School has spacious and well-ventilated classrooms, a well-stocked library, a computer lab, sports room and playground for outdoor sports.
