Marigold Flower’s New Variety ‘Arka Bhanu’ Launched

Suttur, July 3, 2024: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Suttur organized a training program on new marigold flower variety at Haratale Village, in Nanjangud Taluk.

Dr. Vinay G.M., Horticulture Expert at JSS KVK, delivered an informative session on optimal cultivation techniques for marigold crops. His talk covered various aspects including field preparation, the importance of using waste manure, the application and benefits of bio-insecticides, selection of crop varieties, sowing procedures, the use of seaweed and its benefits, integrated nutrition management, and the advantages of light nutrient usage. He also discussed integrated pest and disease symptom management along with prevention methods.

During the session, Dr. Vinay introduced the new marigold variety ‘Arka Bhanu,’ which produces yellow flowers. This variety can be harvested within 40-45 days of sowing and boasts superior flower size and yield compared to other varieties. Additionally, ‘Arka Bhanu’ offers prolonged yield periods. This variety was developed by the Indian Horticulture Research Institute in Hesaraghatta, Bengaluru. Dr. Vinay encouraged farmers to take advantage of its benefits.

Dr. Deepak, Home Scientist at JSS KVK, provided insights on various vegetable crops suitable for kitchen gardens. He emphasized that growing vegetables in kitchen gardens can significantly contribute to maintaining good health.

At the conclusion of the program, ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra distributed saplings of the new marigold variety ‘Arka Bhanu’ to five farmers.

Progressive farmers Raju, Lokesh, Praveen, Vasanth, and over 20 other farmers, including women, participated in the training program and benefited from the knowledge shared.
