LEGAL AWARENESS PROGRAM HELD AT SUTTUR SRIKSHETRA

Suttur, March 2, 2026: A “Law Awareness” program for students was inaugurated at Allama Prabhu Hall, located within the premises of JSS Educational Institutions, Suttur Srikshetra, under the National Universal Health Insurance Scheme and the Elimination of Child Labor campaign. The program was organized by the esteemed Legal Service Authorities under the joint auspices of the Taluk Legal Service Committee, Lawyers Association (R), JSS Educational Institutions, Suttur Srikshetra, and the Taluk Health Officer’s Office, Nanjangud.

Inaugurating the program, Shri Kamalaksha D., Senior Civil Judge, Nanjangud Taluk, stated that laws are essential for building a healthy society. He said that in a democratic system, everyone must bow to the law, and that the law serves as a guide directing social life. He urged citizens and students not to fall prey to bad habits and to work towards creating a better future.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Satish K.G., Principal Civil Judge, Nanjangud, made students aware of the rights and duties of Indian citizens. He explained, with examples and supporting videos, key legal provisions including the Child Abduction Act and its punishment, the POCSO Act, punishment for giving drugs to children for selling, juvenile delinquencies, the Child Marriage Act, and the punishment and fine for employing children as child labourers.

Presiding over the program and delivering the presidential address, Shri G.L. Tripurantaka, Coordinator of JSS organizations in Suttur, expressed concern that crimes are increasing in recent times. He emphasized that every citizen must develop civic consciousness and social consciousness, and said the number of people receiving punishment in jails should reduce, and the number of criminals should decrease. He noted that education alone is not sufficient and that there must be awareness of the law, adding that there should be fear of punishment when one does wrong.

Mrs. A.S. Vasanthalakshmi, Senior Advocate, Nanjangud, delivered a lecture on the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Control Act.

As a resource person, Shri Yadu Girish C.K., Health Officer, Nanjangud, spoke on the prevention of suicide cases among students due to mental disability, and highlighted the need for awareness and timely support.

The program was attended by several dignitaries, including Mrs. Saritha Kumari M.A., First Additional Civil Judge, Nanjangud; Shri Mahadevaswamy, President, Nanjangud Bar Association; Shri Kemparaju, Vice President; Shri M.K. Basavanna, General Secretary; Shri Nanjuada Swamy, Advocate, Nanjangud; M. Mahadeva Prasad, Superintendent, Basaveshwara Vidyarthi Nilaya; office bearers and members of the Bar Association; panel lawyers of the committee; employees of JSS institutions; and students of the JSS Residential School.

Earlier in the program, students sang the State Anthem. Shri Kumaraswamy K.S. delivered the welcome address, Shri Nanjuadaswamy offered greetings, and Shri N.P. Parasivamurthy narrated the proceedings. The program concluded with everyone singing the National Anthem.
