Suttur, December 17, 2023: Dr. K. Govindaraju, President of the Karnataka Olympic Association and Chief Minister’s Political Secretary, delivered a compelling address at the inaugural function of the JSS Inter-Institutions Sports Meet in Suttur, highlighting the significance of sports in alleviating stress in our lives.
Dr. Govindaraju urged students to prioritize sports alongside their academic pursuits, emphasizing the need for specific goals and determination. Stressing the vital role sports play in maintaining good health, he encouraged students to engage in at least one hour of sports activities daily.
Expressing gratitude for being part of the event, Dr. Govindaraju commended the JSS Institution for not only providing education but also instilling good culture in students. He acknowledged the success of numerous JSS alumni who have achieved top positions nationally and internationally.
In a generous gesture, Dr. Govindaraju announced an annual cash prize of Rs.50,000 and a memento for the top two sports performers in the sports meet. Furthermore, he expressed a commitment to establishing a basketball academy in Suttur to promote sports participation among local students.
The sports meet was inaugurated by Shri Sukesh Hegde, an International Kabaddi player, who praised the disciplined parade of participants. Hegde expressed pride in the growing recognition of Kabaddi as a sport in India, with the government reserving jobs and providing encouragement for sports persons.
His Holiness Jagadguru Shri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, in his blessings, stressed the importance of sports becoming an integral part of everyone’s life. He encouraged students to value sports as much as their studies, citing the positive impact on enthusiasm, mental health, and physical well-being.
The event included the presentation of the pledge to Kum. Bhavana, a State-level sports personality of JSS PU College, Veerarajipura, and Shri M.K. Somashekar, Physical Education Instructor. Dignitaries such as Shri Venkatesh, Director of the Sports Division at the University of Mysore, were present at the event.
The program, which began with an invocation by JSS School students, featured welcoming remarks by Shri Lokeshappa, a vote of thanks by Shri L.M. Nandish, and skillful coordination by Shri D.M. Siddalingaswamy. The participating sports teams paid homage to the guests with a guard of honour. Approximately 3,500 students are participating in various sports during the three-day sports meet.
