Suttur, November 1, 2026: Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated with fervour at the JSS Educational Complex in Suttur under the auspices of JSS Educational Institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri G. Shivaswamy, Headmaster of JSS Higher Primary School, said November 1 was more than a date on the calendar—it was a celebration of Kannada identity and sentiment. He said the yellow and red colours of the Kannada flag reflected Kannadigas’ spirit of sacrifice and revolution.
Referring to Kavirajamarga, he noted that Kannada Nadu once extended from the banks of the Kaveri to those of the Godavari, but was subsequently divided. Following Independence, the movement for Karnataka’s unification gathered momentum, leading to the formation of the unified Mysore State in 1956. The State was renamed Karnataka in 1973.
Invoking poet Mahalinga’s description of Kannada, Shri Shivaswamy highlighted the language’s simplicity, beauty and natural elegance. “Kannada is our mother, Kannada is our breath, and Kannada is our pride,” he said.
Shri Veerabhadraiah, Assistant Coordinator of JSS Institutions, emphasised that achievement was important in students’ lives, alongside an education rooted in culture and values, which remained a central objective of the institution. He called for greater employment opportunities for Kannadigas in Karnataka and said Kannada should be mandatory at every level of administration.
Principals Shri Mahesh and Shri M. Rajashekaramurthy, and Headmasters Shri G. Shivamallu, Shri M.G. Basavanna, Shri G.M. Shadakshari and Shri G. Shivaswamy were present.
Prizes were distributed to students who had excelled in sports and Mallakhamb and secured selection for state- and national-level competitions. Students presented cultural performances following the formal programme.
The programme began with an invocation by the students. Smt. K.S. Mamatha welcomed the gathering, Smt. Vidyamba offered greetings, and Smt. K.M. Bindu compered the programme.
