India’s Freedom Movement Was a Public Movement: Dr. V.M. Ramesh

Suttur, August 18, 2025: “The independent and progressive India was, and always is, a naturally and culturally rich nation. We have the pride of disseminating knowledge to the entire world. The role of even common people in making our country a British-free India is undeniable. When we say India’s freedom, it is truly a public movement,” observed Dr. V.M. Ramesh, Assistant Professor, History and Research Department, Karnataka State Open University (KSOU).

He was addressing the students as the chief guest at the Independence Day celebrations held at JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru.

Dr. Ramesh urged students to remember the sacrifices of all freedom fighters and commemorate them. He emphasized that all sections of society—including common people, sages and saints, warriors, and women—played a vital role in India’s independence movement. “Every story is memorable.
