Suttur, 17 September 2025: ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Suttur, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Mysuru, organized a five-day training program for Krishi Sakhis under the Government of India’s National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF) scheme.
Inauguration & Guidance
The program was inaugurated by Shri Ravi, Assistant Director of Agriculture, Nanjangud Taluk. Addressing the Krishi Sakhis, he emphasized the importance of natural farming and urged participants to fully utilize the five days to learn the step-by-step process for adopting natural farming practices. He called on them to share the learnings with other farmers after the training and to direct farmers to experts at the Department of Agriculture or ICAR JSS KVK, Suttur, for further guidance.
Department Leadership & Implementation Focus
Shri. Satish, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Department of Agriculture, Mysuru, and Nodal Officer, NMNF Project, encouraged farmers to absorb all inputs provided by KVK scientists and to commit to the successful implementation of the Natural Farming Project across Mysore district.
KVK’s Role & Mission Context
Presiding over the program, Dr. Gyanesh B. N., Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, noted that the Central Government launched NMNF to promote natural farming in response to the rising use of chemical inputs in agriculture. He highlighted that KVK Suttur has been selected as the district training center for effective implementation and called for optimal use of the expert-led sessions delivered at the center.
Training Objectives & Scale
Setting the context in his introductory remarks, Dr. Vinay G. M., Horticulturist, KVK, explained that the core objective is to reduce chemical usage by adopting naturally available inputs and tools. To build confidence among farmers, selected agricultural friends (Krishi Sakhis) are being trained first. He added that the project aims to implement natural farming on approximately 1.5 lakh hectares across India.
Farmer Perspective & Practice First
Mr. Prithviraj, a natural farmer from Varakodu village, urged participants to first practice natural farming on their own fields and then motivate and guide fellow farmers based on hands-on experience.
Program Conduct & Participation
Mr. Shamraj, the lead trainer for KVK’s natural farming program, presented the training plan. Dr. Rakshitraj delivered the welcome address, and Dr. Deepak proposed the vote of thanks. Mrs. H. V. Divya and the KVK staff were present.
Approximately 40 Krishi Sakhis from the taluks of Nanjangud, T. Narasipura, K. R. Nagar, Saligrama, and Mysuru participated in the training.
