One day workshop on Scientific Cultivation Practices, Marketing Facilities and Export Opportunities of traditional Crops with Geographical indication is organized on 07.01.2026 at ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Suttur in association with Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Bengaluru.
Regional Assistant Managing Director, APEDA, Shri U. Dharmarao said that the basic objective of the APEDA is to create an international market for agricultural products of traditional crops with geographical indication. He said that suitable guidance will be provided to the farmers through APEDA to sell their agricultural products of traditional importance.
Nanjangud Assistant Director of Horticulture C.S. Chandru informed the farmers that cultivation of Nanjangud Rasabale has drastically come down and the farmers should cultivate more Nanjangud rasable as it fetches good price in the market. He also said that special incentives would be given for cultivating GI crops of Mysuru district.
Mrs. Madhumathi Andrews, Manager, APEDA, Bengaluru said that if farmers register with APEDA through horticulture department and cultivate traditional crops with geographical indication of Mysuru district. APEDA will provide assistance up to Rs. 5 lakh. Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and self-help groups (SHGs) can also register with the APEDA and get subsidy for their crops and sell their produce globally.
The Assistant Manager, APEDA, Dr B.K. Pooja speaking on the occasion, said that agricultural products can be categorized as scheduled and non-scheduled agricultural products and registered with APEDA to sell high quality agricultural products. He said that every country has its own rules in the international market and according to the rules of their country, agricultural products can be sold with the guidance of APEDA.
The programme was presided over by Dr. B.N. Gnanesh and he called upon the farmers to cultivate different crops in every season instead of growing one crop in every season to maintain the fertility of the soil. He also discussed the difference between natural farming and organic farming and its pros and cons. Mysore’s traditional crops like Nanjangud Rasabale, Mysore Betele leaf, Mysore Valiyadale and Eeranagere Badane have good market value. He told the farmers to take interest in cultivating these crops. KVK will provide all the technical guidance for growing these GI crops with support of APEDA. Shortly GI Banana and Mysuru betel leaf crops will be exported to foreign countries. At the same time, he informed the farmers about the central government’s scheme Vikasit Bharat Ji Ram Ji.
Subject Matter Specialists Dr. G.M. Vinay & Dr. Y. P. Prasad provide information on methods of cultivation of traditional crops of Mysore district. Experts Dr. GM Vinay delivered the introductory speech. Dr. Prasad welcomed and compered the programme. Dr. Deepak offered vote of thanks. More than 120 farmers and farmwomen participated in the programme.
