Suttur, Dec. 19, 2020: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra organized a Horse Gram PHG-9 variety field day on December 17, 2020, at Arakere Village in K.R. Nagara Taluk. This event aimed to provide training and showcase the benefits of the PHG-9 horse gram variety to farmers in the region.
Ten farmers from Arakere Village underwent extensive training on seed treatment, farming techniques, and seed production specific to the PHG-9 horse gram variety during the 2020 monsoon season. Furthermore, the Kendra distributed seeds to these farmers, who subsequently planted them in their respective farms. The field day was organized to observe the progress of their crops and assess the benefits of the PHG-9 variety.
The participating farmers were highly satisfied with the performance of the PHG-9 horse gram variety, noting its superiority over the local variety and its ability to yield more produce.
H.V. Divya, Seed Technology Scientist at JSS KVK, provided valuable insights during the field day. She highlighted that the Horse Gram PHG-9 variety exhibits excellent traits, including a shorter growth cycle of 100-105 days and resistance to yellow poison disease. “Under proper care, this variety can yield 3-4 quintals per acre, providing farmers an additional profit of Rs. 2000 per quintal,” she emphasized.
The Horse Gram PHG-9 field day took place in the agricultural field of Sri Kumar, located in Arakere village, K.R. Nagara Taluk. The event served as a platform for farmers to witness firsthand the benefits of adopting the PHG-9 horse gram variety and encouraged them to explore its potential for enhanced productivity and profitability.
