Suttur, Dec. 19, 2020: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vignan Kendra had orgnaised a Horse Gram PHG-9 variety field day on December 17, 2020, at Arakere Village in K.R. Nagara Taluk. About 10 farmers of this village were trained in seed treatment, farming measures, and seed production on PHG-9 horse gram variety during the 2020 monsoon season, and seeds were also distributed to them. All these farmers had sown the seeds in their respective farms, following which the field day was organised. The farmers who participated in the field day expressed their view that the PHG-9 variety horse gram was better than the local variety and had given more produce.
H.V. Divya, Seed Technology Scientist of JSS KVK who participated in the field day explained that the Horse Gram PHG-9 variety is very good and gives yield within 100-105 days and also is resistant to yellow poison disease. “It gives 3-4 quintals of yield per acre under good care. Farmers can earn Rs.2000 more profit per quintal from this,” she added.
