Five-Day Organic Farming Skills Training Held at ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Suttur

Suttur, November 18, 2025: ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Suttur, in collaboration with ATMA Yojana, Department of Agriculture, Mysuru, organized a five-day Organic Farming Skills Training programme at the ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra campus in Suttur.

The programme was inaugurated by Shri Satish, Deputy Project Director, ATMA Yojana, Department of Agriculture, Mysuru. The event was presided over by Dr. B. N. Gyanesh, Senior Scientist, ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, who highlighted the growing demand for organic farming products and urged farmers and farm women to adopt organic farming systems and achieve success in this sector.

During the five-day training, participants were introduced to the concept of organic farming, its importance, core principles, recommended practices, and the standards to be followed. Sessions also covered soil, plant health and water management, and their relationship with human health. Detailed information was provided on seed conservation in organic farming, seed production, animal husbandry in organic systems, organic farming techniques, and organic pest and disease management. The programme also included guidance on marketing and value addition of organic farming produce.

As part of the practical exposure, the farmers visited the fields of Sri Prabhuswamy, an organic progressive farmer from Suralli village, Nanjangud taluk, and Sri Prithviraj Chauhan, a progressive natural farmer from Varakodu village, Mysuru taluk. During these visits, they were given hands-on information on the preparation and use of Panchagavya, Jeevamrutha, Brahmastra and Agni Astra, which are widely used in natural farming.

A total of 42 male and female farmers, including six farmers/farm women from each taluk, participated in the programme and acquired technical knowledge and practical skills related to organic farming. The training was supervised by subject experts of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, with Sri Shamaraj and Dr.
