‘Swachch Bharat Campaign is the first step towards building an empowered India’

Suttur, December 18, 2018: A street play and singing of songs to raise awareness about cleanliness were held in the Biligere Gram Panchayat as part of the fortnightly cleanliness drive organized by ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Suttur.

A jatha (rally) was organized by ICAR JSS KVK in collaboration with the ‘Kshetra Janasamparaka Kaaryalaya, Government of India, Mysuru, to create awareness among villagers about maintaining cleanliness in their households and the village. The street play was enacted by a team of artists from the Sangeetha Nataka division.

As part of the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan, JSS ICAR Krishi Vigyan Kendra is conducting a cleanliness drive. A special program to create awareness about crop insurance was also held at the ICAR JSS KVK premises in collaboration with Kshetra Janasamparka Kaaryalaya, Mysuru, Child Development Project, Biligere Gram Panchayat, and Janashikshana Samsthe, Mysuru. The awareness jatha was organized by JSS KVK, while the street play was performed by the Ragaranjini Kala Tanda to raise awareness among villagers about the importance of cleanliness and an open defecation-free village.

In her introductory speech, Dr. T.C. Poornima, Deputy Director of ‘Kshetra Jansamparka Kaaryalaya’, explained the various programs of the Government of India, including the objective of the Fasal Bhima Yojana. Sri. Linganna K.S., President of Biligere Gram Panchayat, inaugurated the program. Resource persons Sri Ravindra Katti, Deputy Director of ATMA, Mysuru, and Sri Manjunath H.K., Manager of State Bank of India, Suttur Branch, provided detailed information about the crops covered by the crop insurance scheme and explained how to avail the benefits of the scheme. Smt. Sudha, Supervisor of the Child Development Department, highlighted various schemes available for women, including the ‘Mathru Vandane’ scheme.

Dr. Arun Balamatti, Chief Scientist and Head of ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Suttur, advised farmers to utilize the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bhima Yojana.

As part of the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan, various competitions such as rangoli, quiz, and games were organized for women farmers at the ICAR JSS KVK premises. Prizes were distributed to the winners. A booklet on Fasal Bhima Yojana and four books of moral stories on cleanliness for children were released during the event.

Over 150 individuals, including farmers and others from surrounding villages, participated in the program. Sri. A.P. Ramesh, Director of Janashikshana Samsthe, welcomed the attendees. Smt. H.V. Divya, Scientist at ICAR JSS KVK, served as the compere, and Dr. Satish M.C., Scientist at KVK, delivered the vote of thanks.

24th Annual Day of JSS Public School celebrated

Mysuru, December 18, 2018: The JSS Public School, J.P. Nagar, Mysuru, celebrated its 24th Annual Day, in the school premises on December 15, 2018.

The programme was inaugurated with the divine blessings of HH Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji. Dr. D Anand, Professor, Bahaddur Institute of Management Studies, University of Mysore, made the valedictory speech.

Smt. Rashmi Kaujalgi, Co-Editor – ANDOLANA News Paper, Mysuru, was the chief guest. Dr. T.N. Nagabhushan, Principal, SJCE, Mysore, presided over the function.

Principal Sri S.L Nagendra presented the annual report 2018-19 and Mrs. Sreelakshmi, CCA Coordinator, read out the CCA report.

School captain Ms. Gowri Chaithanya, of IXth Standard, welcomed the gathering and Vice-Captain, Master Chandru, IXth Standard, proposed a vote of thanks.

CCA prizes, sports prizes, prizes for academic excellence and prizes for CBSE toppers were given away by the guests.

The prizes for inter-high school classical duet dance competition and debate competition conducted during the ‘Manasadhara Fest’, on December 13th and 14th respectively were also given.

While the Tagore House bagged the Tagore House, Shasrti house won the sports trophy. Individual championship trophy for sports was also distributed.

Later the children of LKG to Xth Standards of the school presented a colourful cultural programme.

“Manasadhara Fest” –2018

Mysuru, December 14, 2018: The JSS Public School J P Nagar, Mysuru, had organized an Inter-High School Debate Competition, as a part of the Manasadhara Fest, on December 14, 2018, in the school premises. The topic of the debate competition was, “Is brain drain a major threat to our national economic growth?”

Dr. C Naganna, renowned writer and visiting professor, University of Mysuru, inaugurated the function. Sri. Srinivas K Iyengar, Director, Public School Division, JSS Mahavidyapeeta, Mysuru, presided over the function. Sri S L Nagendra, the School Principal welcomed the gathering.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest admired the school’s divine ambience and soulful singing of the school’s choir. “Oratory has a definite purpose: that purpose is to achieve the greater good of the society. Oratory is never for its own sake. Command over the language must enable to speak the truth which is the ultimate goal,” he said.

He stressed that “a debater should speak not in favour of the powerful and mighty, he should always take the side of the weak and the voiceless people. He concluded his speech by quoting the poem of Khalil Gibran.

Later, Sri Sreenivas K. Iyengar in his presidential address said that it is not the fineness of the language that is most important but the way it is communicated humbly across the people.

Twenty schools actively participated in the competition. The participants exhibited their debating skills enthusiastically.

Celebrating the Literary Legacy of Kuvempu: A Tribute to a Towering Talent

Kollegal, December 12, 2018: Dr. N. Y. Srinivasaiah, Assistant Professor at the Kannada Department, P.E.S. College, Mandya, described Kuvempu as not only a great poet but also a social metaphor of literary origin and a pro-social and cultural thinker. He referred to Kuvempu as a “mountain of talent” during his special lecture on “Kuvempu – Literature and Life” at JSS Women’s College in Mysuru. The lecture was organized by the ‘Sahitya Sangama’ on the occasion of Kuvempu’s 115th Birth Anniversary.

Dr. N. Y. Srinivasaiah stated, “Kuvempu was a mountain of talent in the literary world, while Dr. Rajkumar was nothing less in the cultural sector. The exceptional talents of these stalwarts continue to remind us of their unique contributions. Kuvempu became a great poet through his ‘Mahakavya’ (epic poetry), whereas Da. Ra. Bendre became a great poet without contributing a ‘Mahakavya’. Kuvempu was the first Kannada poet to win the prestigious ‘Jnanapeetha Award’. Today’s youth should be educated about the pro-social thoughts of such great poets through lecture programs like this.”

In his presidential address, Prof. Umesh, Principal of JSS Women’s College, highlighted that Kuvempu was the first Kannada poet to receive the esteemed ‘Jnanapeetha Award’, and the program marked the 50th anniversary of this milestone. Prof. Umesh emphasized Kuvempu’s literary journey, which began with the publication of ‘Amalana Kathe’ when he was a student. He further acknowledged Kuvempu’s contributions as a lecturer, professor, vice chancellor, as well as the numerous prestigious awards he received, including the State Literary Academy award, Padmabhushana, Karnataka Ratna, Nadoja, Pampa, and Rashtrakavi. Kuvempu was also honored with D.Litt. degrees by several universities, making him a role model for all.

Prof. M. Basavaraju, Head of the Kannada Department, and Prof. Smt. Roopashri were present on the dais during the lecture. The event was attended by lecturers and students who actively participated in the program.

Dr. Rajendra Mahaswamiji’s 33rd Punyaradhane and Suttur Jatra Mahotsav preparatory meeting held

Suttur, December 13, 2018: The Paramapujya Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji’s 33rd Punyaradhane was held at the Suttur Srikshetra on December 12, 2018. A special puja was held at the Shrine of Sri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, and Rudrabhisheka, Sahasra Bilwarchane, Ashtottara Bilwarchane, and Mahamangalaarathi were held at the other temples.

Bhoomi Puja was conducted to the Mantapas where the Adijagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Mahaswamiji’s Jatra Mahotsav will be held from February 1 to 6, 2019, followed by the consultation meeting. It was decided to hold dasoha, various utasavs, mass marriage, drama, etc., as part of the Mahtosav. Detailed discussions were held in this regard, in the divine presence of Parampujya Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji.

Diplomas Awarded to Agricultural Products Dealers for Promoting Quality and Expertise

Suttur, December 13, 2018: In a significant step towards enhancing the knowledge and skills of agricultural products dealers, a special ceremony was held in Suttur to award Diploma in Agricultural Extension Services for Input Dealers – DAESI certificates to the dealers from Mysuru-Chamarajanagara districts.

Underlining the importance of technical expertise in the agricultural sector, Dr. G.R. Pennobali Swami, Nodal Officer of SAMETI (South), Agricultural University, Bengaluru, highlighted the need for trained dealers who can provide farmers with accurate guidance. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Govt. of India, in collaboration with MANAGE Institute, Hyderabad, SAMETI, and Agricultural Universities, designed a one-year training program to address this need. The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Suttur successfully offered the diploma program in two batches this year.

Dr. M.S. Nataraj, Director of the Extension Branch at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru, emphasized the role of diploma holders in understanding farmers’ problems and providing appropriate solutions. He encouraged dealers to collaborate with the Agriculture Department and the University to ensure the dissemination of relevant information.

During the ceremony, Dr. S. Rajendra Prasad highlighted the importance of proper storage practices, urging dealers to keep seeds and pesticides separate to maintain their quality. He stressed the significance of continuous learning and advised dealers to seek guidance from scientists when faced with crop-related challenges.

Presiding over the event, Dr. M. Mahadevappa, Director of the Rural Development Department at JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Mysuru, commended the diploma holders for their dedication and encouraged them to go beyond their business roles. He urged them to establish “farmers information centers” to provide valuable agricultural and farming insights, ultimately reducing farmers’ expenses.

The esteemed gathering included Sri N. M. Shivashankarappa, Director of the Horticulture Department at JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Mysuru, along with Sri Prakash C. Patil and Sri H. J. Jagadish.

Dr. Arun Balamatti, Chief Scientist at ICAR JSS KVK, extended a warm welcome to the guests and the audience. Sri Mahantesh T. expressed gratitude in his vote of thanks, while Sri Satish S. skillfully compered the ceremony.

JSS Higher Primary School bags overall sports prize

Suttur, December 10, 2018: The JSS Higher Primary School, Suttur, has bagged the overall prize in the three-day Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahswamiji Memorial JSS Inter-School Sports meet, held at the Suttur Srikshetra.

Boys category: Ashok Prabhugowda Konnura – 600 m sprint (first place), 400 m and 100 m sprint (second place); Bhojappa – 200 m sprint (third place); Prajwal – 600 m sprint (second), Parashuram K.G. – High Jump (first place), Shot Put (first place); Rahul Mehato – Long Jump (Second place), Shot Put (second place), 4×100 m. relay (first place).

Ashok Prabhugowda Konnura has bagged the ‘Individual Champion’ prize.

Girls category: Lekhana – 400 m sprint (first place); Lingtoi – 200 m. sprint (second place); Jyothi – 200 m sprint (third place), Manini – 600 m. sprint (second place). Hanika – Shot put (first place); Ibalisha – Discuss throw (second place), High Jump (third place); Manini – Long Jump (third place); 4×100 m. Relay (first place).

Paddy Field Day in Suttur Promotes Profitable Seed Production

Suttur, December 10, 2018: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra organized a highly informative and engaging event called ‘Kshetrotsava’ (Paddy Field Day) at the Hoskote village in Nanjangud Taluk. This event aimed to provide valuable insights to farmers and promote the adoption of RNR 15048 paddy variety seeds and bio-fertilizers for enhanced seed production.

The ICAR JSS Krishi Vignyan Kendra (ICAR JSS KVK) distributed RNR 15048 paddy variety seeds and bio-fertilizers to selected farmers who had completed training in June 2018 for seed treatment. These farmers successfully cultivated paddy using the distributed seeds, leading to the organization of the Paddy Variety RNR 15048 crop Kshetrotsava (Field Day) at the paddy field of beneficiary Sri S. Prabhuswamy.

During the event, Sri Prabhuswamy shared his experiences and demonstrated how he achieved a bountiful paddy crop with minimal disease and pest concerns. He expressed confidence in the RNR 15048 variety, which he said guarantees a minimum yield of 23-25 quintals while being resistant to rice blast disease.

Smt. H. V. Divya, Scientist at ICAR JSS KVK, provided valuable information about the RNR 15048 paddy seeds, highlighting their 120-day duration and their superior yield compared to other small paddy varieties.

The program was inaugurated by Sri M. Chandrashekar, Managing Partner of Agro Life Sciences. He emphasized the importance of seed production measures and encouraged farmers to enter into agreements before commencing seed production. Sri Chandrashekar’s company offered to purchase good quality paddy at a price of Rs. 2,400 per quintal, providing an additional Rs. 200 above the market price for cleaned and dry produce. He also expressed the possibility of facilitating agreements and purchasing higher-priced produce for a group of 10-15 farmers interested in seed production. Farmers were advised to contact ICAR JSS KVK or his company for further details.

Dr. Arun Balamatti, Chief Scientist at ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, emphasized the potential for higher profits through smart seed selection and the use of efficient equipment such as drum seeders. He encouraged farmers to consider seed production as it offers increased returns, potentially yielding Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 20,000 more profit per acre compared to traditional methods.

Progressive farmer Sri Gurulingegowda shared his positive experience of cultivating the RNR 15048 paddy variety using a drum seeder. Other farmers from Kalmalli Basavaraju, Biligere Aradhya, Jeemaralli Guruprasad, Hoskote Chikkamadushetty, and Prabhuswamy also expressed their interest in undertaking seed production in the future.

Sri Brejnew of TVS Company announced plans to provide drum seeders to assist farmers with the sowing process.

Over 45 farmers from surrounding villages actively participated in the program, gaining valuable knowledge and insights. Smt. Netravathi Yettinamani, Scientist at ICAR JSS KVK, warmly welcomed the gathering, while progressive farmer Sri Prabhuswamy delivered the vote of thanks. Smt. H. V.
