First place in Ball Badminton tourney

Mysuru, February 28, 2019: The students of the JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, B.N. Road, Mysuru, have secured first place in the Mysore University Ball Badminton tournament 2018-19, and third place in Throwball tournament, held at the PES B.Ed College in Mandya.

Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive, Prof. M. Mahadevappa, Principal, Sri M. Karthik, Physical Education Director and teaching and non-teaching staff have congratulated the winners.

India’s Economic Progress Gains Momentum, Says Prof. R.M. Chintamani

Kollegal, February 23, 2019: Prof. R.M. Chintamani, Director (Retd.) of JSS PG Centre, highlighted India’s robust economic growth and expressed optimism for its continued progress in the coming years. He delivered a special lecture on the topic ‘Current Economic Situations’ at JSS Women’s College in Kollegal. The event was organized by the PG Department of the college.

In his address, Prof. Chintamani referenced the recent UN report titled ‘World Economic Situation and Prospects,’ which acknowledged India’s rapid economic development. He emphasized that the country’s business activities have gained momentum due to the implementation of various new systems such as the Goods and Services Tax (GST), simplified tax procedures, digitalization, and online money transfer systems.

Presiding over the program, Prof. Umesh, Principal of JSS Women’s College, Kollegal, emphasized the importance of maintaining India’s position among the top 50 business-friendly countries in the world. He highlighted that the present Prime Minister has called upon industrialists and entrepreneurs to contribute their best efforts towards achieving this goal. Prof. Umesh further noted that India has successfully attracted over Rs. 263 billion dollars in investments over the past four years, representing a 45 percent increase compared to the previous two decades. He emphasized that India’s economic progress has surpassed that of China, a remarkable accomplishment.

The lecture witnessed the presence of Prof. Archana M. and Prof. Mahesh on the dais, adding valuable insights to the discussion.

The event shed light on India’s impressive economic growth and its positive outlook for the future, reflecting the country’s commitment to business-friendly policies and advancements in various sectors.

Pacifying is Counseling, Says Sri D.G. Vishakantamurthy

Kollegal, February 23, 2019: Sri D.G. Vishakantamurthy, Principal of JSS Nursing School in Kollegal, highlighted the importance of counseling as a means to pacify and alleviate mental stress. He delivered a special lecture on the topic “Counseling – A Nursing Method” at JSS Women’s College in Kollegal. The event was organized by the Red Ribbon Club.

Addressing the audience, Sri D.G. Vishakantamurthy emphasized that individuals from the middle-class section of society often experience significant pressure that can lead to depression. Counseling plays a vital role in pacifying and helping them overcome such challenges.

Presiding over the program, Prof. Umesh, Principal of JSS Women’s College, highlighted the prevalence of various pressures faced by individuals in today’s pleasure-seeking society. He emphasized the importance of seeking counseling at an early stage to find solace and prevent the escalation of mental and physical pressure. Prof. Umesh urged society to raise awareness about counseling and encouraged individuals to openly share their feelings without hesitation.

National Conference Explores Current Trends in Mathematics

Mysuru, February 21, 2019: The Department of Mathematics at JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Mysuru, organized a two-day National Conference on “Current Trends in Mathematics” to delve into the significant contributions of Indians to the field of mathematics.

The conference was inaugurated by Prof. H.B. Walikar, former Vice-Chancellor of Karnatak University, Dharwad, who highlighted the immense contribution of Indians to mathematics. Prof. Walikar emphasized that the concept of “Zero” was introduced by the great Indian mathematician and astronomer Brahma Gupta of the 5th CE. He further noted that references to the usage of “Zero” as a “dot” can be found in the Bhakshali Manuscript of the 3rd CE, and even Allamaprabhu mentioned the concept of “Zero” in his vachanas as “Shunya.”

The conference aimed to promote a scientific approach and enhance awareness among teachers, young researchers, and students regarding the recent advances in the study of current trends in mathematics, as explained by Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the JSS College Complex, in his welcome address.

The program began with an invocation by Kum. Madhura and Kum. Sadhana, second-year M.Sc. (Mathematics) students. Prof. M. Mahadevappa, Principal of the college, extended a vote of thanks. The event witnessed the presence of Prof. S. Linganna, Head of the Department of Mathematics, and Dr. N. Ravikumar, Organizing Secretary. Dr. Rajendraprasad skillfully compered the program.

The conference brought together approximately 200 participants, including teachers and students, to engage in discussions and exchange ideas on the current trends in mathematics.

Training Program Enhances Capacity, Skills, and Knowledge, says Dr. C.G. Betsurmath

Suttur, February 21, 2019: Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, Executive Secretary of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, emphasized the importance of training in improving capacity, skills, and knowledge during the inaugural function of a three-day training program organized by JSS Mahavidyapeetha for the second division clerks of the institution.

Highlighting the benefits of training, Dr. Betsurmath stated that attending such programs enables individuals to stay updated with new government policies and institutional practices. It helps overcome inferiority complexes, enhances professional satisfaction, and reduces mistakes while performing job responsibilities. Moreover, he emphasized that training instills confidence and trust among employers and seniors.

The workshop was inaugurated by Sri S.P. Udayashankar, who stressed the importance of service-mindedness among employees. He advised the participants to exhibit a positive attitude, work diligently, and maintain punctuality and accountability. Sri Udayashankar emphasized that learning is a continuous process and encouraged participants to acquire experience and become resource persons in their respective fields.

Sri Shankarappa provided an overview of the workshop, mentioning that over 19 subject experts would share their experiences and knowledge during the three-day program. He emphasized that training is a requirement to serve within the legal framework and improve working capabilities in accordance with government policies and institutional guidelines.

The event witnessed the presence of Sri M. Siriyappa, Sri K.R. Santanam, Sri H.S. Nagaraj, and Sri K. Shivaiah.

JSS Residential School students pay tributes to Pulwama martyrs

Suttur, February 19, 2019: More than four thousand students of the JSS Residential School, Suttur, paid tributes to the CRPF jawans who laid down their lives for the cause of our country at Pulwama in Jammu recently.

The students sang patriotic songs before offering their tributes. Sri G.L. Tripurantaka, JSS Institution Coordinating officer spoke about the sacrifices of the martyred soldiers. The students raised slogans ‘Bharath Maata Ki Jai’, ‘Veer Yodh Amar Rahe’.

The students and the staff observed a minute’s silence by holding candles in their hands. Head of the institution, teaching and non-teaching staff was present.

Union Day Celebrated at JSS Residential School, Suttur

Suttur, February 18, 2019: JSS Residential School in Suttur held its Union Day program, emphasizing the importance of holistic development and cultivating a competitive attitude among students. Sri Srinivas K. Iyengar, Director of JSS Public School Division of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, encouraged students to actively participate in extra-curricular activities alongside their regular classes.

Dr. M. Sharada, Principal of Sri Nataraja Women’s Residential First Grade College, attended as the chief guest and shared her perspective on academic achievements and personal growth. She emphasized that a person’s personality cannot be defined solely by their academic marks, and urged students to develop discipline, courage, and a strong work ethic. Dr. Sharada advised students not to jeopardize their futures for trivial reasons.

Another chief guest, Smt. Leela Shivakumar, Convener of Apna Desh, Clean Mysuru Foundation, emphasized the importance of respect for parents and teachers. She highlighted the significance of hard work and honest efforts in achieving success, while urging students to maintain cleanliness in their environment and uphold good character.

Talented students were awarded prizes by NRIs Smt. Bharati Reddy and Smt. Archana Reddy. The event was graced by the presence of Sri G.L. Tripurantaka, Coordinating Officer of JSS Institutions, Suttur, Sri Sampath, Sri Veerbhadraiah, Headmaster Sri G. Shivamallu, Smt. C.P. Nirmala, Sri B.M. Siddappa, Sri G.M. Shadakshari, and other dignitaries.

The program began with a one-minute silence in honor of the brave soldiers who lost their lives in the recent Pulwama attacks. The educational report of the High School division was presented by Kum. Megha, while Kum. Shrut P.H. presented the sports report. Kum. Annapurna presented the educational report of the Higher Primary School division, and Kum. Sangeetha presented the sports report. The event commenced with an invocation by the school students, followed by a warm welcome by Kum. Sumalatha. Kum. Yashoda A. delivered the vote of thanks, and Mallikarjun Desai expertly compered the program.

Cleanliness Drive Promotes Good Health and Hygiene at JSS Women’s College

Kollegal, February 18, 2019: In an effort to promote cleanliness and good health, students of JSS Women’s College in Kollegal actively participated in a cleanliness drive as part of the ‘Swachch Bharath Abhiyan’. The college campus was meticulously cleaned by the students, under the guidance of Prof. Umesh, the Principal of the college. The cleanliness drive was organized by the JSS Women’s College, National Services Scheme (NSS) unit.

Prof. Umesh, in his address after the cleanliness drive, emphasized the inseparable relationship between cleanliness and good health. He stated, “Cleanliness and health are like two faces of the same coin; they are inter-dependent. It is the responsibility of every citizen to strive for a healthy life in order to build a healthy society. By maintaining cleanliness in our surroundings, we can prevent the spread of diseases and ensure hygienic conditions. Let us extend our efforts beyond our homes and create awareness among our neighbors about the importance of cleanliness.”

The NSS Programme Officer, Prof. Basavaraju, and the Cleanliness Drive Committee convener, Prof. Manjunath, were also present during the event, providing guidance and support to the students.

The cleanliness drive not only instilled a sense of responsibility and cleanliness among the students but also served as a platform to create awareness about the significance of hygiene in maintaining good health.

Capacity building of teachers is very essential for qualitative human resource development – Prof. R. Rajanna

Mysuru, February 18, 2019: Today teaching has become a profession packed with huge challenges and expectations and hence it has become inevitable for the teaching faculty to update their skills in order to meet the expectations of the students and provide justice to the noble job which they do. Hence, the teaching faculty should consider availing training regularly and keeping up the spirit of teaching. Identifying these needs through observation and qualitative analysis, the JSS MVP had organized a one-day workshop on ‘Capacity Building’ for teachers on February 16, 2019.

Prof. R. Rajanna, Registrar, Mysore University, inaugurated the programme. He emphasized the significance of building the capacity of teachers to produce qualitative manpower for nation-building. He appreciated the initiative of the college in this direction and called for the quantum of initiatives towards building the capacities of teachers in the future by all educational institutions.

Prof. S.N. Hegde, former Vice-Chancellor, Mysore University presided over the programme. He highlighted the need for building the capacity of both students and teachers to contribute to qualitative higher education reflecting on public policy. He mentioned that since teaching is the only profession which contributes to all other professions, wisdom based capacity building workshops for teachers have to be conducted continuously. He called for a scientific approach with continuous learning along with changes in cultural aspects of the society.

The workshop included two technical sessions. In the first technical session, Prof.  A Balasubranian, DoS in Earth Science, University of Mysore, Mysuru, oriented the participants on ICT & Outcome Based Education. In the second technical session Prof. M S Talawar, Center Director -RIE oriented the participants on Lesson Plan.
