Suttur, November 1, 2025: The JSS Educational Institution, Suttur, celebrated Kannada Rajyotsava with great fervour and cultural splendour. The State flag was ceremoniously hoisted by Shri Mahadevaprasad, Warden, Basaveshwara Boys Hostel, who delivered an inspiring address on the primacy of the Kannada language and Karnataka’s heritage.

In his speech, Shri Mahadevaprasad said that Kannada, which we have learnt from our mother, flows in our blood and nerves—it is our mother tongue. “The first word an infant speaks is ‘Amma’; just as that word is sweet to hear, so is Kannada for us. It is an honour and a pride to learn, speak and use Kannada,” he remarked. He added that Kannada folk songs have the power to soothe even a crying infant and emphasised that Kannada is not just a language but a vast institution of literature and a symbol of grandeur. He stated that Karnataka is not merely a state, but a land of culture, traditions, great literature and courage. Recalling the bravery of Kittur Rani Chennamma, he urged everyone to be proud to speak Kannada.

He further stated that Kannada does not mean only words; it is the womb of poems, a mother’s compassion and a path of truth. Parents, he said, should stop their obsession with educating their children only in English medium schools and instead encourage them to respect, protect and develop Kannada. “Kannada is not just a spoken language; it expresses our love for our land and traditions,” he noted. Shri Mahadevaprasad also recited lines from several Kannada poems and appealed to the students to protect the state’s rivers, memorials and heritage sites. “Respect all languages and learn them, but let Kannada be the language of your heart. Speak in Kannada with your heads held high,” he concluded.

The event also featured an attractive cultural programme presented by the students. The celebrations began with an invocation by the students, followed by a welcome address by Smt. G. S. Jadambika. Smt. S. Hemalatha proposed the vote of thanks, while Smt. B. Vedavathi compered the proceedings. Headmaster Shri G. Shivamallu, Shri M. G. Basavanna, Shri G. M. Shadakshari and Shri G.
