Shivadeepotsava Celebration Radiates Splendor in Suttur

Suttur, November 26, 2023: The sacred precincts of Suttur witnessed an exuberant display of devotion during the Shivadeepotsava celebration on Sunday, November 26, 2023. Special pooja programs were conducted at the Adijagadguru Shri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Mahaswamiji, Shri Someshwara, Shri Mahadeshwara, Shri Veerabhadreshwara, and Shri Narayanaswamy temples, in the divine presence of His Holiness Jagadguru Shri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji.

The Shivadeepotsava festivities included Mahamangalarathi and a silver chariot prakarotsava, culminating in a mass prayer rendered by the students of JSS School, Suttur.

During a thought-provoking lecture, Dr. K. Anantaramu, retired Kannada Professor from the University of Mysore, illuminated the significance of ‘Shivadepotsava.’ He emphasized the symbolic representation of worshiping Lord Shiva through lamp lighting. “Suttur, with its Kapila river’s sacred waters, is a divine place associated with Shivarathreeshwara Swamiji. Today, Suttur glows with the radiance of lights, resembling heaven on earth. Lighting lamps symbolizes the greatness of light, representing knowledge that dispels darkness. Through lamp lighting, we can fill the world with the divine energy of knowledge and illuminate our desires. Moving from falsehood towards truth and from darkness towards light encapsulates the essence of light,” he observed.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Appaji C.N. Nadagowda, MLA of Muddebihala Assembly Constituency, Vijayapura District, urged attendees to approach life with love and concern rather than a commercial perspective. He emphasized the importance of the education received at Suttur, expressing confidence that the blessings of teachers would guide the students towards making the country proud.

Renowned Kannada litterateur Kum. Veerbhadrappa commended Suttur Math for spreading the light of knowledge in line with Basavanna’s vachana. He urged students to prioritize their studies, considering the JSS Institution as a microcosm of India, with students hailing from various states.

The enchanting lighting decorations and a spectacular crackers exhibition added to the joy of devotees and visitors. The event drew pontiffs from various maths, distinguished guests, and hundreds of devotees from surrounding villages.
