Enhancing Skills alongside Graduation: Prof. Umesh Advocates for Skill Development

Kollegal, February 19, 2020:  Prof. Umesh, Principal of JSS Women’s College, Kollegal, emphasized the significance of acquiring skills alongside obtaining a degree, stating that possessing only a degree is no longer sufficient in today’s competitive world. He shared his insights during the inauguration of a lecture program on the topic “Digital Library and its Forms,” organized by the Library and Information Centre of JSS Women’s College, Kollegal.

Prof. Umesh highlighted the increasingly competitive nature of exams and the challenges faced by students who lack necessary skills. He emphasized the importance of accuracy, swiftness, discipline, and skills for success in competitive exams. Prof. Umesh encouraged students to utilize the resources available in the library, as it plays a vital role in their preparation for exams and career development.

Sri Srinivas, the Librarian of JSS Women’s College, discussed the presence of competition in every sector and stressed the need for proper preparation to achieve success. He urged students to choose their profession during their academic years to avoid wasting their student life. Sri Srinivas emphasized that a modern library setup provides solutions to many educational challenges, making it an invaluable resource for students.

The lecture program was also attended by Sri Mahesh P., an Economics lecturer.

Skills are important to students to shape their career – Dr. Dharmaprasad

Mysuru, February 18, 2020: The Postgraduate Department of Biotechnology, JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru, had organised a two-day regional level workshop on “Fermentation Process, Chromatography, and DNA Amplification”, under the aegis of the Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society, Dept. of IT, BT and S&T, Government of Karnataka, on February 18 and 19, 2020.

On the first day Dr. Dharmaprasad, Managing Director, M/s. Prosetta Bioconformatics Pvt. Ltd., Mysuru, inaugurated the Symposium and delivered the keynote address. In his address, he spoke about the job opportunities available in the areas of Research and Development, Biopharma, Clinical trials, Regulatory affairs, Medical writing, Project Management, etc. He emphasized the different skills that are required like analytical thinking, assay methodology, design of experiments, troubleshooting, soft skills, critical thinking, observation skills, etc., and advised the students to possess these skillsets.

Prof. B. V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive, JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science, Mysuru, presided over the function. On the occasion, he gave insight on the importance and applications of fermentation process, chromatography and DNA amplification in life sciences subjects, particularly biotechnology.

The principal of the College Prof. M. Mahadevappa welcomed the guests. Dr. N. D. Rekha, Organizing Secretary of the workshop proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. B. Y. Sathish Kumar, HoD, PG Department of Biotechnology and the convenor of the workshop were present.

Prof. B. S. Gowrishankar, HOD, Dept. of Biotechnology, Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumakuru, and Prof. Ramachandra R Kini, DoS in Biotechnology, University of Mysore, Mysuru, participated as the resource persons of the technical sessions.

About 50 undergraduate and postgraduate students from the life sciences department of different colleges participated in the workshop.

Addressing the Challenges of Employment: Smt. B. Susmitha Advocates for Skill Development

Kollegal, February 18, 2020: Smt. B. Susmitha, Assistant Professor at JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru, highlighted the challenges faced by students in obtaining suitable employment due to a lack of proper information and training. She shared her insights during a lecture program on the topic “Eligibilities Required to get Employment,” organized by the Commerce Club at JSS Women’s College in Kollegal.

Smt. B. Susmitha expressed concern over the common dilemma faced by students after completing their graduation with good marks. She emphasized that many talented students lack the necessary information and guidance to secure suitable jobs based on their skills. She emphasized the role of lecturers in assisting students in developing the required skills to enhance their employability.

Presiding over the program, Prof. Umesh, Principal of JSS Women’s College, addressed the challenges faced by employers during campus interviews, stating that finding eligible candidates has become increasingly difficult. Prof. Umesh emphasized the importance of skills rather than mere graduation, as individuals with the right skills are more likely to excel in life. He encouraged students to make timely decisions and strive for success in this creative and dynamic world.

The lecture program was also attended by Smt. S. Mamatha from the Commerce Department.

Blood donation camp

Mysuru, February 15, 2020: The Youth Redcross Unit of the JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru, in association with the NSS and NCC units of the college had organised a blood donation and blood sample examination camp on February 15, 2020.

JSS Residential School, Suttur Celebrates School Anniversary with Enthusiasm

Suttur, February 14, 2020:  The JSS Residential School in Suttur commemorated its School Anniversary with great enthusiasm. The event witnessed esteemed guests, including Dr. Rajesh Udupudi, Principal of JSS Ayurveda College, Mysuru, and Sri Prabhakarrao Shinde, DySP of Nanjangud Sub Division, Mysuru District.

Dr. Rajesh Udupudi, in his address, emphasized the importance of providing free education, considering it the most sacred form of charity. He highlighted that education and Indian culture played significant roles in the success and recognition of Indian professionals, such as doctors and engineers, in countries like the United States. Dr. Udupudi also stressed the importance of having a goal and a mentor to guide students throughout their educational journey.

As the chief guest, Sri Prabhakarrao Shinde praised the JSS Educational Institution for its noble mission of providing free education, benefiting not only students from Karnataka but also students from other states. He shared his own aspirations from his school days and expressed his delight in participating in the school anniversary function. Sri Shinde encouraged the students to dream big and strive for excellence in their chosen fields.

The program included the distribution of prizes to students who excelled in various sports and cultural competitions. The students showcased their talent through a captivating cultural program.

Several dignitaries, including Sri G.L. Tripurantaka, Coordinating Officer of JSS Educational Institution, Sri Sampath, Sri Veerabhadraiah, Headmasters Sri G. Shivamallu, Smt.C.P. Nirmala, Sri B.M. Siddappa, Sri G.M. Shadakshari, and others graced the occasion with their presence.

Kum. Sindhu presented the Higher Primary School and High School Educational Report, while Kum. Megha Mahantesh presented the Sports Report. The program commenced with an invocation by the students, followed by a warm welcome by Kum. Vani. Kum. Radhika delivered the vote of thanks, and Kum. Rashmi compered the event.

JSS High School Physical Education instructor secures 1st place in 400 m running

Sri Ravichandra, Physical Education Instructor, JSS High School, Suttur, took part in the District-level Physical Education Instructors Sports meet held at the Chamundi Vihar Stadium in Mysuru and secured first place in 400 m running, 3rd place in shotput and 2nd place in volleyball.
