Graduation Ceremony – 2020

Another batch of MBBS students graduated from the JSS Medical College with a strong determination of serving the nation’s healthcare needs. The Graduation Ceremony was held in the holy presence of HH Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji. Dr. Vinod Bhat, Vice-Chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education was the special guest. Dr. Basavanna Gowdappa, Principal, JSS Medical College, Dr. Surinder Singh, Vice-Chancellor, JSSAHER, Dr. C. G. Betsurmath, Executive Secretary, JSSMVP graced the occasion.

Dr. Preethi Prakash Prabhu emerged as the star graduate of this year bagging five gold medals, cash prize, and awards.

Heads of various departments of JSS Medical College and Hospital have congratulated and extended best wishes to all the graduates and award winners for their efforts.

Waste Management – A Sustainable Alternate livelihood – Dr. K.A.Anu Appaiah

Mysuru, March 11, 2020: The Postgraduate Departments of Botany, Microbiology, and Biochemistry of the JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru, had oragnised a one-day state-level seminar on the topic “Innovations and Challenges in Life Sciences,” on March 5, 2020.

Chief Guest of the programme, Dr. Anu Appaiah, Senior Principal Scientist, Department of Microbiology and Fermentation Technology, CFTRI, Mysuru, in his address emphasized about waste management, which is a major issue today. He gave several examples of those who innovatively converted waste into wealth, based on global thinking and local enacting.

Prof. B. V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the college, highlighted the importance of innovations in different aspects of life. He also emphasized the differences between discoveries, inventions, and innovations through his signature conversational speech.

Prof. M. Mahadevappa, Principal, was present on the occasion. Prof. S. Prathibha, Head, UG Department of Botany and organising secretary of the seminar welcomed the dignitaries and introduced the chief guest.

Dr. M. S. Manjunath, Head, UG Department of Biochemistry and convener of the seminar proposed a vote of thanks. Mr. B. L. Kiran, Assistant Professor, UG Department of Botany compeered and Kum. K. N. Sannidhi, II B.Sc. rendered an invocation.

More than 300 students and 50 members of the faculty took part in the seminar.

Mandala Pooje at Suttur Srikshetra

Suttur, March 9, 2020: The reinstallation mandala pooja of the Sri Nanjundeshwara Temple, in the Adijagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Mahaswamiji’s shrine in Suttur was held on March 9, 2020, Monday, in the divine presence of Paramapujya Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji.

Gangapooja was performed on the banks of Kapila river early in the morning, and the agrodaka (holy water) was carried to the Holy Shrine in 108 Kumbhas, led by folk music troupes. After that Ganapathi pooja, Swasthivaachana, Nandi, Ekadasha Rudrakalashaaradhane, Ekaadashavaara Rudrabhisheka were performed. Prasad was distributed after Mahamangalarathi.

Many pontiffs, devotees and others were present on the occasion.

Seminar on “Emerging Trends in Plant Science” Explores the Future of Botanical Research

Mysuru, March 9, 2020: The Postgraduate Department of Botany at JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru, organized a UGC-sponsored one-day State-level seminar on the topic “Emerging Trends in Plant Science.”

Dr. Venkatesh Prasad, AVP and Head of the Synthetic Biology Function at Reliance Industries Ltd., Ghansoli, Navi Mumbai, inaugurated the seminar and delivered the keynote address. The Chief Guest, Sri N.M. Shivashankarappa, Director of the Horticulture Division at JSS Mahavidyapeetha, also inaugurated the JSS-BOTANICA Forum, a botanical club for Botany students at JSS College. Sri Shivashankarappa highlighted the diverse uses of common plants like Tulasi, including its role as a mouth freshener and in the preparation of homemade green tea, emphasizing the importance of bridging traditional knowledge with scientific advancements.

Presiding over the event, Prof. B. V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the college, emphasized the significance of plant science in today’s world. He highlighted the transformative nature of the discipline, incorporating advanced technologies such as Biotechnology, Metabolomics, Transcriptomics, and Genetics. Prof. Sambashivaiah noted that plant science holds potential solutions for pressing global concerns, such as the current outbreak of the Corona virus. He further discussed key areas of plant science, including cell membrane studies and gene splicing, which are expected to lead to groundbreaking discoveries in the near future.

The chief guest, Sri N.M. Shivashankarappa, was honored by Prof. M. Mahadevappa, Principal of JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, B.N. Road, Mysuru. Dr. Beligiriranga V., Organizing Secretary, extended a vote of thanks.

During the seminar, Dr. Rashmi S., Convener, Mrs. Sindhu G.M., Co-convener, and Ms. Meghashree A.M., Organizing Member, honored the distinguished speakers Dr. Venkatesh Prasad, Prof. M.B. Shivanna, and Prof. Rajkumar H. Garampalli, respectively.

The seminar witnessed the participation of over 200 attendees, including students and staff members. The program was skillfully compered by Ms. K. Spandana (II MSc), while the invocation was presented by Ms. H.S. Poornima (I MSc). Ms. S.M. Divyashree warmly welcomed the guests, and Ms. C. Tejaswini (II MSc) and Ms. Niveditha N. Bhat (I MSc) introduced the esteemed speakers. The seminar concluded with Ms. Sujatha Pal (II MSc) providing a comprehensive summary of the insightful discussions.

A report on the UGC sponsored one-day state-level seminar on “New Innovations in Advanced Materials.”

Mysuru, March 7, 2020: The JSS College of Arts, Commerce & Science, Mysuru, had organised a UGC sponsored one-day state-level seminar on the topic, “New Innovations in Advanced Materials,” on March 7, 2020, at the Golden Jubilee Hall in the college.

Prof. K.M. Mahadevan, Registrar (Evaluation) of the University of Mysore, Mysuru, inaugurated the seminar. In his address, he explained the historical overview and importance of science for every multifaceted activity in the Universe. He compared protons, neutrons and electrons with Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara respectively, with the roles played by each of them in the creation of Universe, and the phenomenal activities of them to enrich the human functioning through achievements. He opined that the unhindered science allowed humans to make many inventions in different fields like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, etc. Prof. Mahadevan described the action of chemical materials like uranium compounds in atom bombs and others in the reactions, namely, fission and fusion. He shared that the researchers are well utilizing every available matter to invent many things to make this world fabulous. He wished that the gift of nature is going to be grabbed in more quantum in the coming decades so that the researchers can make many more inventions that will serve the society.

Chief Guest of the programme Dr. S. Srikantaswamy, Director, College Development Council, University of Mysore, Mysuru, delivered a speech on the applications of various materials used for centuries for diverse purposes. He quoted the invention of Fullerene, allotropy of carbon, use of natural minerals and chemical substances as materials for wider applications. He highlighted that in the future material science will dominate many activities for human development.

Prof. B.V Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the College presided over the function. In his address, he highlighted the various credentials and milestones of the college since its inception to date. He justified the invention of many scientific truths and the existence of the universe, as stated by Prof. K. M. Mahadevan. He also mentioned applications of different materials for the present-day scenario. He explained in detail the fact that of the key role played by materials in present days as predicted by scientists long ago. He also stressed the need for newer materials for better tomorrow for the overall development of society with scientific adventures.

Prof. M. Mahadevappa, Principal of the College welcomed the guests, dignitaries, faculty, students and others who were present on the occasion.

Dr. L. Mallesha, Head of PG Department of Chemistry and Convener, and Dr. C. Mallikarjuna Swamy, Organizing Secretary were also present. Ms. Spandana and Ms. Yashaswini rendered an invocation. Mr. Manjunath compered the programme.

NSS National Integrity Camp participants seek Paramapjuya Swamiji’s blessings

Students of 22 different universities including Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra, who took part in the NSS National Integrity camp held at the JSS Higher Education and Research Academy premises, in Mysuru, visited the Suttur Srikshetra and received blessings from Paramapujya Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji.

International Women’s Day 2020 Celebrated by JSS Jan Shikshan Sansthan, Honoring Women Achievers

Mysuru: JSS Jan Shikshan Sansthan marked the occasion of International Women’s Day 2020 with a grand celebration held at Nava Jyoti Auditorium, JSS College for Women, Saraswatipuram. The event aimed to recognize and felicitate 22 outstanding women achievers from various fields. Additionally, certificates were presented to successful trainees, and valuable information regarding career opportunities was provided.

The function was inaugurated by Smt. MS. Hemavathi, Secretary of Jnana Jyothi Institution. In her inspiring address, she highlighted the need for women to actively advocate for reservations in elections. She emphasized the absence of reservations for women in Loksabha and Vidhana Sabha elections and called for a 33 percent reservation for women in all fields, including politics. She further encouraged women to pursue financial independence through employment, thereby strengthening our society as a whole.

JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science Organizes Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji Memorial Inter-College Sports Tournament

Mysuru, March 06, 2020: The JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science, located on Ooty Road in Mysuru, proudly presents the Paramapujya Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji Memorial Inter-College Sports Tournament. This exciting event features men’s Volleyball, Throwball, and Ball Badminton, as well as women’s Throwball.

The tournament was inaugurated by Dr. Mansoor Ahmed, the Cricket Trainer of the University of Mysuru. In his address to the students, Dr. Ahmed emphasized the importance of balancing both academic and extracurricular activities. He commended the JSS Institutions for their commitment to fostering well-rounded development in students and encouraged other colleges to organize similar sports tournaments, as they contribute to building camaraderie and goodwill among students. Dr. Ahmed also advised the participating students to embrace both success and failure with a sportsmanlike attitude.

Prof. S. Shivakumaraswamy, Secretary of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, shared his belief in equal opportunities for both men and women in sports activities. He stressed the importance of engaging in sports for maintaining good mental and physical health, urging everyone to actively participate in some form of sports.

In his introductory speech, Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the College, paid tribute to Dr. Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji and his visionary contributions. Driven by his concern for the underprivileged, Dr. Mahaswamiji established educational institutions in rural areas to ensure access to quality education for rural students. The JSS Mahavidyapeetha, founded in 1954, now oversees more than 350 schools and colleges, including the JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science. Prof. Sambashivaiah expressed his hope that the tradition of conducting both curricular and extracurricular activities, such as this sports tournament, would continue in the future.

The event commenced with an invocation by Kum. K.N. Sannidhi, followed by the presence of Prof. M. Mahadevappa, the Principal of the College, and Sri M. Karthik, the Director of the Physical Education Department. Dr. L. Vinaykumar, the NCC Officer, extended his gratitude in a vote of thanks, while Sri N. Santhoshkumar, the NSS Officer, served as the program’s compere.
