Bee farming can increase crop yield by 80%: Sri Sundaraswamy

Suttur, November 7, 2019: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vignan Kendra, Suttur, conducted a training program on bee farming and its benefits for the villagers of Chowkahalli in H.D. Kote Taluk. The event aimed to educate participants about the advantages of bee farming and its potential to significantly increase crop yield.

Sri S. Satish, Plant Protection Scientist at JSS KVK, highlighted that bee farming has the potential to increase crop yield by up to 80%. Emphasizing the benefits of bee farming, Sri Sundaraswamy, an Agricultural Scientist from Mysuru, encouraged farmers to consider bee farming as a supplementary profession. He discussed the various advantages associated with bee farming, such as honey production and the multiple uses of beeswax.

Expressing his concern about the declining population of honey bees due to the widespread use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in agriculture, Sri Sundaraswamy urged farmers to explore organic farming methods.

The training program witnessed the participation of students from Jaipur Suresh Jnanavihaar Agriculture University, agriculture department officers, and both male and female farmers from the local community.
