Sri Vishakantamurthy Stresses the Importance of Moral Education Over Rankings

Kollegal, Mysuru 24, 2019: Sri Vishakantamurthy, Principal of JSS Nursing School, Kollegal, highlighted the significance of moral education over academic rankings during a lecture titled “Role of Youth in Building a Good Society.” The lecture was organized by the National Service Scheme (NSS) at JSS Women’s College in Kollegal.

In his address, Sri Vishakantamurthy emphasized that while there has been remarkable progress in the fields of science and technology, it has become essential to prioritize moral education over achieving high rankings. He expressed concern that students who focus solely on physical education may miss out on moral, social, and cultural education. He urged parents and educators to recognize the importance of these factors and provide a balanced education that nurtures both the physical and moral development of students. He cited the words of Swami Vivekananda, who advocated for the physical and mental strength of youth. Sri Vishakantamurthy encouraged motivating students based on their individual interests to foster holistic growth.

Prof. Umesh, Principal of JSS Women’s College, Kollegal, presided over the program and emphasized the need to instill values in students. He stressed that moral education plays a vital role in building a stable and secure foundation for life. Prof. Umesh drew inspiration from the societal reformer Basavanna of the 12th century and called for teaching the youth about their crucial role in creating a good society.

The program was attended by Prof. Basavaraju, NSS Program Officer, and Prof. Mamatha, Volunteer.
