Suttur, July 4, 2023: It is with deep sorrow that the JSS B.Ed. College, Suttur, announces the passing away of Sri B.C. Rajagopal, Principal (Retd.), a revered figure who dedicated over four decades of his life to serving the JSS Educational Institutions. A solemn condolence meeting was organized by the college on July 3, 2023, to honor his remarkable contributions.
During the meeting, Sri Sampath, Additional Coordinating Officer, expressed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the JSS community, while offering prayers for the departed soul. Recognizing the profound impact Sri B.C. Rajagopal had on the institution, Sri Sampath wished strength and solace for the grieving family members.
Addressing the gathering, S. Shivaswamy, Principal of JSS Educational Institution, Suttur, paid tribute to Sri B.C. Rajagopal, fondly reminiscing about his unwavering support, guidance, and cooperation towards both students and colleagues.
The condolence meeting witnessed the presence of lecturers and trainees who had the privilege of knowing and learning from Sri B.C. Rajagopal. As a mark of respect, a moment of silence was observed.

Mysuru, July 01, 2023: The JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru, had organized a program to distribute prizes to the winners of the State-level debate, essay and vachana recital-definition competitions held in the college, organized by the UG & PG Kannada Departments, on June 27, 2023.
A total number of 87 students took part in the competitions. While T.A. Chandana from the Nataraja First Grade College, Mysuru bagged the first prize in the essay competition, S. Aghamarshana of the Government Home Science College, Hassan and B. Sushma of Maharani College, Mysuru bagged the second and third prizes respectively.
In the debate competition 52 students took part and R. Kusumabai of the JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, B.N. Road, Mysuru won the first prize, followed by N. Lakshmi of the JSS Women’s College and B.G. Monika, Maharni Women’s Arts College, Mysuru bagging the second and third prizes respectively.
38 students participated in the Vachana recital-definition competition. N. Lakshmi, of the JSS Women’s College, Mysuru, D.C. Chetana, JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, B.N. Road Mysuru, and N. Kiran, from the Government First Grade College, T. Narasipur bagged the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively.
Dr. Umesh, Govt. First Grade College, Gundlupet, Dr. D.K. Usha, First Grade College, Nanjangud, Prof. H. Devanna, JSS College, Sri S. Nanjundaswamy, Dr. Shobha, Dr. D.B. Shivakumar and Dr. B. Prabhuswamy were there in the judges panel.
In the introductory speech, Prof. M.P. Vijayendrakumar, Principal, JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, B.N. Road, Mysuru advised the students that taking part in the competitions is more important than winning or losing. He also advised them to develop this attitude in the future also.
Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the College distributed the prizes and certificates to the winners and congratulated them. More than 150 students from various Universities and Degree Colleges took part in the competitions.
Suttur, June 28, 2023: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Suttur, organized a groundbreaking program aimed at introducing the new chilli crop variety, ‘Arka Harita,’ to farmers in Haratale Village.
During the event, Dr. Vinay G.M., Horticulture Scientist at JSS KVK, provided comprehensive insights into the characteristics of the innovative ‘Arka Harita’ variety. This remarkable chilli strain boasts a short maturation period, with the first yield expected within 65-70 days of sowing, and a continued yield for an impressive 160-170 days. Notably, the chillies from ‘Arka Harita’ are dark green in color and possess a highly desirable spicy flavor, making them in high demand in the market. Moreover, this variety exhibits resistance against common ailments such as powdery mildew and virus diseases. Farmers can expect a substantial yield of 80-100 quintals of green produce or 20-25 quintals of dried yield from this exceptional variety.
Dr. Vinay G.M. also elucidated the significance of integrated nutrient management for vegetable growth, enlightening the farmers on optimal practices.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Prasad Y.P., Crop Conservation Scientist, shed light on the prevalent diseases affecting chilli crops, discussing their characteristics and effective preventive measures.
As part of the demonstration session, ten farmers were provided with samples of the new chilli crop varieties, ‘Arka Harita’ and ‘Tarkaari Samruddhi.’ Additionally, five farmers were selected for technical testing of these varieties.
The training program witnessed enthusiastic participation from farmers Raju and Lokesh from Hartale, along with over 30 farmers from various locations who eagerly embraced the knowledge and benefits presented during the session.
The introduction of ‘Arka Harita’ holds immense potential to revolutionize chilli cultivation practices and uplift the agricultural landscape in the region. ICAR JSS KVK remains committed to empowering farmers with innovative techniques and improved crop varieties for enhanced productivity.
Suttur, June 27, 2023: JSS Educational University (B.Ed. College), located in Suttur, organized a special program on June 26, 2023, in commemoration of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The event, held at the college premises, welcomed Sri Karibasappa, Sub Inspector from Biligere Sub Police Station, Nanjangud Taluk, as the esteemed chief guest. Sri Karibasappa expressed his deep concern regarding the escalating usage of drugs among the youth, emphasizing its detrimental impact on physical and mental health. He further highlighted the destructive consequences of drug abuse on society at large. Sri Karibasappa assured the audience that the police department is actively working to curb the sale and usage of drugs. He encouraged the youth to voluntarily distance themselves from such harmful substances and urged everyone to report any instances of drug usage or illegal human trafficking to the nearest police station. Accompanying Sri Karibasappa was Sri Shivaraju, Sub Inspector from the Crime Division.
During the program, the first and second-year B.Ed. students had the opportunity to seek clarification on legal matters by posing questions. Dr. H.M. Mahesh, Principal of the College, presided over the event, providing guidance and support. Assistant Professors were also present to ensure the success of the program.
The program commenced with an invocation by Kum. Monica, followed by a warm welcome extended by Sri G.N. Manjunath. Sri K.V. Yogesh concluded the event by delivering a vote of thanks.

Venkatesh, Director of the Physical Education Department at the University of Mysore, highlighted the significance of sports activities in effectively managing stress and time for students in the modern era. He expressed concern over the declining interest and participation of students in sports, stressing the need for a shift in this trend.
Dr. Venkatesh inaugurated the Inter-college Men’s Volleyball, Trowball, and Women’s Ball Badminton tournaments at JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru. The event was organized in commemoration of His Holiness Jagadguru Rajagurutilaka Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji. During his address, Dr. Venkatesh emphasized the positive impact of sports on both physical and mental well-being. He noted that the prevalence of technological advancements has heightened student stress levels, underscoring the essential role of sports as a healthy outlet.
Presiding over the program, Prof. R. Murugeshappa, Director of the Department of Collegiate Education at JSS Mahavidyapeetha, stressed the significance of sports in shaping students’ personalities. Mysuru, June 24, 2023: Promoting proper accreditation and equipping youth to tackle tomorrow’s challenges, Col. Prof. Y.S. Siddegowda, Vice-President of the Karnataka State Higher Education Council, stressed the significance of innovation and creativity in research endeavors. Speaking at a one-day national-level seminar on “Research Methodology” held at JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, in collaboration with the Karnataka State Higher Education Council, Col. Prof. Siddegowda encouraged researchers to strive for qualitative change in society and work with unwavering commitment.
In his address to students, Col. Prof. Siddegowda remarked, “Researchers should prioritize areas of study that bring tangible benefits to society. Young researchers must cultivate their interests and actively engage in innovative endeavors.” He also took the opportunity to reflect upon his longstanding association with JSS Institutions, spanning over 35 years.
Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the College, shed light on the seminar’s concept note, the institution’s milestones, and the objectives of the event, coinciding with the participation of people in the G20 summit. He emphasized that a robust research procedure is key to yielding positive outcomes. Prof. Sambashivaiah further remarked, “To effectively implement ideas, research scholars require training, guidance, and the activation of research methodology.”
