JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science Celebrates 73rd Independence Day

Mysuru, August 15, 2019: The JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science, located on B.N. Road, Mysuru, celebrated the 73rd Independence Day with great enthusiasm on August 15, 2019.

During the event, Dr. H.M. Rajashekar, Former Director of UGC – Human Resource Development Centre, Mysuru, addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of patriotism and secularism. He urged the students to develop a sense of political consciousness and understand the true spirit of Independence Day. Dr. Rajashekar expressed concern about the influence of populism in politics and stressed the need for students to have a better understanding of the Indian Constitution. He highlighted that India has the potential to become a developed nation if there is equality and true secularism in society.

The National Flag was hoisted by Prov. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the College, in the presence of esteemed guests, invitees, faculty members, and NCC cadets.

Prof. M. Mahadevappa, Principal of the UG College, extended a warm welcome to the guests, and Prof. S. Somashekar, Principal of the PU College, delivered the vote of thanks. The program was skillfully compered by Prof. P.M. Mahadevaswamy.

The celebration of the 73rd Independence Day at JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science aimed to foster a spirit of patriotism, unity, and national consciousness among students, empowering them to contribute positively to the progress of the nation.

Independence Day celebration at JSS School, Suttur

Suttur, August 15, 2019: The 73rd Independence Day was celebrated in Sutturu under the auspices of JSS Institutions.

Dr. N. Muttukumar, Chairman, Automotive Axles Ltd., Mysuru, hoisted the tricolour. He spoke about the sacrifices of several leaders for freedom of our country and said it was our duty to remember their sacrifices.

Dr. H. Basavanagodappa, Vice-Chancellor, JSS Higher Education and Research Institute, Mysuru, presided over the programme. He observed that the struggle for freedom and the leaders who struggled for our independence has proved the strength of the people of our country. He advised the students to utilize the opportunities that they have and become good citizens of the country.

Sri N.M. Shivakumar, of Triveni Hitech Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru, opined that the country will be strong if each and every citizen of the country is physically fit and hence he called upon the students to practice yoga and inculcate good habits.

Umadevi of Shambhavi Shantidhama, Bengaluru, and Smt. Prema Somasundar, Secretary, Sthree Samaja, expressed their view that the traditions and culture of our country will improve and continue when the students follow the ideals of their parents and seniors.

Heads of various departments of the JSS Institutions, Sri G.L. Tripurantaka, Sri Sampath, Sri Veerabhadraiah, Sri K.V. Rao, Dr. M.C. Nataraj, Sri S. Shivaswamy, Sri G. Shivamallu, Smt. C.P. Nirmala, Sri B.M. Siddappa and Sri G.M. Shadakshari were present.

The NCC Air Force, Land Army, Scouts and Guides and Band teams presented an attractive parade and gave the guard of honour to the guests. It was followed by cultural programmes. The programme commenced with an invocation by the students. Sri G.L. Tripurantaka, Coordinating Officer welcomed and Assistant Teacher Kum. H.M. Savitha gave a vote of thanks, Smt. S. Savitha compered.

Workshop on Paddy Production Technologies Held at JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra

Sutturu, August 7, 2019: The Institution of Agricultural Technologists, Mysuru Chapter, Mysuru, in association with the JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, had organized a workshop on ‘Paddy Production Technologies’, at the ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, in Sutturu, on August 7, 2019.

In his introductory address Dr. Arun Balamatti, Head, JSS KVK, Suttur, explained that the objective of organizing this workshop is to create awareness among the farmers’ about adopting short-term cultivation methods as there has been a delay in releasing water to the canals and increase crop production by using a different variety of crops.

Dr. M.A. Shankar, Director (Retd.) Research, GKVK, Bengaluru, inaugurated the workshop. In his address, he expressed his view that the farmers can get 70 quintals of yield in one acre of paddy field. But they are getting only 20-25 quintals due to different reasons. This workshop throws light on how to fill up this gap through technology. By gaining knowledge the farmers can get a good yield.

Sri Krishnamurthy, Vice President, Institution of Agriculture Technologists, Mysuru Chapter, Mysuru, presided over the program. “The number of agriculturists is declining. Nobody wants to stay in villages these days. Poet Sarvajna has explained the importance of farmers in his vachanas. The farmers should know their importance and be proud of their profession,” he said and advised the farmers to utilize the benefits of crop insurance.

In the technical session, Dr. M.A. Shankar spoke about integrated nutrition management in paddy. While Sri Shamraj, Scientist, Institution of Agriculture Technologists spoke about direct sowing of paddy, Sri S. Satish spoke on management of paddy diseases, Sri J.G. Rajanna spoke on soil health and Smt. H.V. Divya explained about the paddy seed production.

Many farmers from Suttur and surrounding villages took part in the workshop. Sri Srujan, student of agriculture gave an invocation. Sri Shamraj, Scientist, KVK gave a vote of thanks and Smt. Divya compered.

Suttur JSS Higher Primary School bags overall prize in hobli-level sports meet

Suttur, August 03, 2019: The Biligere Hobli-level Sports Meet was held in JSS School, Suttur. Fifty girls and fifty boys of the JSS Higher Primary School took part in various sports and helped the school in bagging overall prize.

Winners in Boys category:

Karthik Kumar Mehato (1st place in shot put & disc throw), Prajwal S. (1st place in 100 m and 200 m running), Bhuan N.M. (1st place in 400 m), Harshkumar Mehato (1st place in high jump) and Vinay T.S. and team (1st place in 4×100 m relay).

Winners in Girls category:

Kowsalya (1st place in 100 m long jump and 2nd in 200 m), Riba (1st place in shot put and high jump), Daivi (1st in 400 m), Ibamary (2nd in 600 m), Bidyapathi (2nd in disc throw), Kowsalya and team (1st place in 4×100 m Relay).

While Karthik Kumar Mehato and Prajwal S. won individual championship in Boys category, Kowsalya and Riba Pin Ullang won the individual championship prize in Girls category.

In group games, the Boys category won in Throwball (1st), KhoKho (1st), Kabaddi (1st), Volleball (2nd), and in Girls category the Throwball team won (1st), KhoKho (1st), Kabaddi (1st), and selected for Taluk-level sports meet.

Sri S.P. Udayashankar, Administrative Officer, Head of various departments of the school and Head Master have congratulated the students who won the overall prize and also the physical instructors who trained them.

Shravanamaasa Discourses begin at Suttur

Suttur, August 2, 2019: The Raghavanka Virachita ‘Harishchandra Kavya’ discourse program that is held every year during Shravanamaasa, was inaugurated at the Jagadguru Sri Veerasimhasana Mahasamsthana Math.

Sri M. Mahanteshappa, Joint Director, Agriculture Department inaugurated the program and expressed his view that the Shravanamaasa is a season of progress. “But, due to the continuous attack on nature by man, nature appears to be angry. As a result, we are not witnessing rains even during this season,” he expressed his anguish.

Ni.Pra.Swa.Sri Appaji Swamiji of the Sri Basavajyothi Math, Dindagaadu, Periyapatna Taluk presided over the program. “The Shraavanamaasa is the beginning of the festival season. The Suttur Srimath has been providing spiritual knowledge to the devotees by conducting discourses every year throughout this auspicious season, which is appreciable” he observed.

Chief guest Sri H.M. Nagaraju, Joint Director, Horticulture Department, Mysuru, in his address said, “We shouldn’t postpone good works. If we keep postponing good works our entire lifespan will end. It is better to make firm decisions about anything instead of keeping thinking about the past or the future.”

Dr. C.G. Ushadevi, Professor (Retd.) gave a discourse on ‘Harischandra Kavya’. Prof. H. B. Devanna, Professor, JSS College, Smt. Shyla Siddaramappa, Mysuru Akashavani artiste and others were present on the occasion.

The JSS School students gave an invocation. Teachers Sri P. Rachappa welcomed, Sri P. Chetan gave a vote of thanks and Sri G.M. Shadakshari compered.

Bheemana Amavasya special pooja: Special poojas were offered to the shrine of Adijagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Swamiji, and Sri Mahadeshwara, Sri Someshwara, Sri Veerabhadreshwara and Sri Nayarayanaswamy temples since morning.

Yoga Achiever

 Selected for Divisional level: Megha Mahantesh, a 10th standard student of the JSS High School, Sutturu, participated in the District-level Yoga Competition organized by the Department of Public Instructions, in Mysuru, and has been selected to participate in the Divisional-level Competition. The Head Master and teachers of the school have congratulated her and have wished her best of luck.
