Suttur, September 28, 2026: A four-day agriculture-based training programme for persons with disabilities, along with the observance of World Rabies Day, was inaugurated at the ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Suttur. The programme is being organised from September 28 to October 1, 2026, by the Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement, Kenchanahalli, H.D. Kote Taluk, in collaboration with SBI and the Nayara Foundation, for participants from Mysuru district.
Inaugurating the programme, Shri K.R. Shankar, Director, Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement, said that people in rural areas are generally familiar with livestock rearing, poultry farming and sheep farming. However, with new developments and innovations emerging in agriculture and allied sectors, such training programmes are essential to introduce participants to improved practices in animal husbandry and related activities. He urged the trainees to utilise the knowledge gained through the programme and serve as technology agents in their respective villages and surrounding areas.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr. Ramesh, Scientist, CFTRI, Mysuru, said that when persons with disabilities pursue their goals with determination, numerous opportunities can open up before them. He observed that integrating agriculture and animal husbandry with value-added activities could help them improve their income and achieve greater economic independence.
Presiding over the programme, Dr. B.N. Gyanesh of ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra expressed happiness that training in animal husbandry and horticulture was being organised for persons with disabilities for the first time at the institution. He said that dairy farming, poultry farming and sheep rearing can provide a regular source of income. He further suggested that participants could enhance their earnings by preparing and marketing value-added products such as desi cow butter, ghee and paneer. He added that following the scientific guidance of KVK experts in animal husbandry could help reduce production costs and improve profitability.
As part of the World Rabies Day observance, Dr. Vijeth, Senior Veterinary Officer, Nagarle Veterinary Department, addressed the participants and explained the precautionary measures to be followed against rabies, along with important information on its prevention.
Mr. N. Mahendra welcomed the gathering, while Mr. M.G. Ramesh delivered the introductory remarks. Mr. M.P. Ramesh compered the programme, and Ms. Kavita proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. Akshata and Dr. U.M. Rakshitraj were also present.
More than 35 persons with disabilities participated in the training programme.
