Suttur, September 9, 2026: A fickle mind should be restrained, said Professor Sri H.B. Devanna during his discourse on the 29th day of Shravana month at Suttur Srikshetra on September 9.
He said that the mind is the source of all actions that take place in life. The Vachanakaras have compared the mind to a monkey because of its restless and fickle nature. Controlling the mind is the first step towards penance. Any task can be accomplished only through devotion and continuous effort.
Illustrating the power of innocent and unwavering devotion, Prof. Devanna narrated the story of a devotee named Shivadev of Kolur. Shivadev had a cow named Kapile. Every day, he would milk the cow, heat the milk, pour it into a clean vessel, and offer it to Lord Kallinatha.
One day, Shivadev and his wife had to travel to another town on some work. Before leaving, he instructed his daughter to take care of the house and not spend too much time playing with her friends. He told her, “I have taken a vow to fetch m
