Suttur, September 12, 2026: Paramapujya Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivaratri Rajendra Mahaswamiji deserves to be conferred with a national award in recognition of his unique and selfless service to society, said Dr. B.G. Sangameshwar, retired Vice Chancellor of JSS Science and Technology University.
He was speaking at the 111th Jayanti Mahotsav of Paramapujya Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivaratri Rajendra Mahaswamiji and Teachers’ Day celebrations, organised by the JSS institutions at Suttur.
Dr. Sangameshwar said that Pujya Rajendra Sri embodied motherly compassion and dedicated his entire life to the upliftment of the poor and needy. He played a significant role in identifying and nurturing talent from rural areas. By establishing educational institutions across the country and spreading the light of knowledge, he worked towards creating a more equal society.
He observed that education should not be limited to imparting knowledge and understanding alone, but should also instil human values among students. Teachers, he said, have an important role in making this possible.
Chief Guest Sri K.P. Siddappaji, Principal Civil Judge, Channagiri, and an alumnus of JSS Residential School, Suttur, said that education should inculcate knowledge, humility and good conduct in students. The knowledge acquired through education should be put to meaningful use for the progress of society, he said, adding that only then would the efforts of the teachers who educated them become truly worthwhile.
Describing teaching as a highly respected profession, Sri Siddappaji said that teachers play an immense role in the development and progress of the nation.
Delivering the introductory remarks, Sri G.L. Tripurantaka, Assistant Administrator, recalled that several distinguished personalities, including Presidents and Prime Ministers of India, writers and scientists, had visited Suttur Srimath. He described Suttur as a sacred land sanctified by the footsteps of sages and pontiffs.
He said it was commendable that the activities of Suttur Srimath had expanded from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and across the country as well as abroad. JSS institutions, he added, were providing modern education along with value-based and cultured education, thereby moulding students to contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
Sri S.P. Udayashankar, Administrator of the JSS institutions at Suttur, presided over the programme. Sri P. Niranjan, a Bengaluru-based businessman, attended as a chief guest. Dr. Naveen Niranjan was also present.
Earlier in the morning, special puja was performed at the shrine. The idol of Paramapujya Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivaratri Rajendra Mahaswamiji was then taken out in a grand procession on the school premises, accompanied by various cultural and folk art troupes. Administrators, heads of institutions and staff members participated in the celebrations with devotion and enthusiasm.
On the occasion, Sri G.M. Shadakshari, Headmaster of the Higher Primary School, who had received the Taluk-level Best Teacher Award, and Sri Ravichandra, Physical Education teacher of the High School, were felicitated.
Prizes were also presented to the winners of cultural competitions and various sporting events organised for the heads and employees of the institution. School students who had performed well were also presented with prizes sponsored by various charitable organisations.
Among those present were heads of various JSS institutions, including Sri Veerabhadraiah, Dr. Gyanesh, Sri G. Shivamallu, Sri M.G. Basavanna, Sri G.M. Shadakshari, Sri G. Shivaswamy and Sri Mahadev Prasad.
The programme began with an invocation by B.Ed. trainees. Dr. H.M. Mahesh welcomed the gathering, while Sri M. Rajashekaramurthy administered the oath. Smt. K.S. Mamata proposed the vote of thanks, and Sri G.N. Manjunath compered the programme.
